1 | What is the story of Luke's genology? | Matt 1:16 | Taleb | 111784
TommyS, here is the “story” of Jesus’ family tree in Luke 3. Just so you are aware, Hitchcock’s defines some of the names in the list different than some of my other sources. It defines Adam as "red earth". However, the Hebrew word Adam is the same word most often translated “man”. Also, the various sources I used, use different definitions one from another. For example, Enoch – some say dedicated, some say preaching, some teaching - either one of which would keep the “flow”. Reading UP in Luke 3 from verse 38 UP to 23, the names spell out the "story" of a GOD-MAN whose purpose was to provide the eternal truth that GOD SAVES. From God, the source of Adam (man) to Christ, the source of salvation, I separated each definition with a comma. GOD, MAN, APPOINTED, MORTAL, SORROW, THE BLESS GOD, SHALL COME DOWN, TEACHING, HIS DEATH SHALL BRING, POWERFUL, REST, THE NAME, RELEASES, SORROW, AS SENT FORTH, BEYOND, AN OPENING, FRIEND, INTERWINED, SNORTER, YOU MAY BREATHE, EXHALTED FATHER, HE WILL LAUGH, WILL TAKE BY THE HEEL, HE SHALL BE PRAISED, BURST OUT, ENCLOSED, HIGH, PEOPLE OF A WILLING GIVER, ENCHANTER, IMAGE, IN HIM IS STRENGH,SERVING, MY MEN, BELOVED, A GIVER, FOLLOWING, SOOTHSAYER, DEAR FRIEND, GOD WILL ESTABLISH, GOD IS A GRACIOUS GIVER, LET HM ADD, HE SHALL BE PRAISED, HEARKENING, JOINED, GIFT OF GOD, GOD IS EXHALTED, GOD OF HELP, GOD WILL SAVE, STIRRED UP, NOT MEASURED, ORNAMENT, HE ADORNED, MY KING GOD, MY LAMP GOD, I HAVE ASKED OF GOD, MELTED BY BABYLON, HEAD, GRACE OF GOD, HE SHALL BE PRAISED, LET HIM ADD, HEARKENED OF GOD, GIFT OF GOD, FROM THIS TIME, ILLUMINATING, RESERVED OF GOD, COMFORTED, BURDEN, GIFT OF GOD, LET HIM ADD, FLOURISHING, MY COUNSEL, JOINED, GIFT OF GOD, ASCENDING, LET HIM ADD, GOD SAVES!!! 2 | wine and acohol | 1 Tim 5:23 | Taleb | 111536
You asked a legitimate question, “what does God/ the bible say about drinking wine and alcohol?” While some incorrectly claim that the Scripture strictly forbids it, using the hit and miss of select Scriptures as evidence, the whole of Scriptures very clearly state the truth. Let me make this perfectly clear about one thing - I personally do not drink wine or alcohol, or coffee. But the only reason I don’t drink those things - I don’t like the taste. EdB tried to feed you misinformation with a lop-sided explanation. Prayon also only gave you one side of Scriptures’ two sides of dealing with alcohol. The first “mention” of the Lord “giving permission” to drink alcohol in Scriptures is found in Deut. 14:26 “And you MAY spend money for whatever you wish, for oxen, sheep, for wine, or liquor, or anything that you have a craving for, and there you must feast in joy before the Lord your God, you and your household” This “command to buy and drink” follows what the Lord declared “against” drinking wine and strong drink in Lev 10:9. BUT observe the “who, where and when” it is forbidden. “And the LORD said to Aaron, ‘Drink no wine or liquor, neither you nor your sons WHEN you enter the tent of the meeting’ …” As far as what EdB attempted to suggest concerning the wedding in Cana … Unless one can get DRUNK on grape juice, Jesus turned the water into WINE. John 2:10 “Everyone else serves his good wine first, and his poorer wine after people have drunk deeply …” The “drunk freely” means “to drink to intoxication (methuo)” It is always used to signify that thought, like in 1 Cor 11:21 where Paul comes down on people who used the wine in communion to “get drunk”. The common misconception that Jesus used grape juice for the last supper goes against the “benefits” that WINE represents in His blood. Anyone who has ever partaken of a passover and used grape juice and leaven bread or crackers HASN'T partaken in a passover feast, they merely sipped juice and ate crackers. Blessings, Taleb |

3 | Why two dreams instead of one? | Gen 41:25 | Taleb | 110682
TommyS, I spotted this question earlier and was tempted to offer a possible explanation. While I'm on the keyboard, I'll go ahead. Joseph himself had two dreams before he was sold. They too meant the same thing. His brothers did bow down. God seems to have "set an example" of offering us another one of His mysteries - which those in the world can't grasp, because they don't have His Spirit. Usually, while reading Scriptures, people fail to keep the WHOLE in proper prepective. Take Revelations for example. Most are "afraid" to really tackle the wonders of that book. Like the dreams of Pharaoh, God did the same thing with Revelation. Many erroneously think that first the seals, then the angels, then the trumpets, then the vials. Wrong. Just like Pharaoh's dream - they fit together. The first trumpet and the first vial - exactly the same thing. All seven of each are the same. First trumpet "upon the earth". First vial "on the earth". Second trumpet - sea and blood. Second vial - sea and blood. etc. etc. The first seal and the first angel are one and the same. The seventh seal and the seventh angel, and each one in between, go TOGETHER as an event. God IS the same yesterday, today and forever. Blessings, Taleb |

4 | What is the story of Luke's genology? | Matt 1:16 | Taleb | 110677
TommyS, I will be glad to "tell the story". Just give me a few days to locate my old notes on it. The reason I became interested in what names mean is when I checked out the meanings of the names and why God wouldn't destroy them in too quickly. (Exodus 23:28-29.) God's special message in those "enemies" names inspired me to check out others. Luke is my "favorite". Blessings Taleb |

5 | Is Bible study important? | 2 Tim 2:15 | Taleb | 109233
Hank, great question. Years ago, when a dear friend was asked about “reading the Bible” he commented, “I haven’t read the Bible in years. I study it.” For years, his statement became my attitude. Now, I do both, but separately. In the past, when I have worked with other churches, too often, too many expect their preacher to do the “Bible” FOR them. But Peter’s 3:15 “includes” verse 8 (if you catch my drift). “Finally, let ALL OF YOU be …” and Peter lead us to that place where he exhorts INDIVIDUALS in verse 15 with “but revere Christ in YOUR hearts and be always ready to make a defense to EVERY ONE” …(also individuals) “… who asks you for the reason of the hope that is within YOU.” And the same goes for 2 Tim 2:15. It IS everyone’s personal responsibility to present THEMSELVES to God …” Last year I made a resolution NOT to make any resolutions. I kept it too. : ) This year I promised myself to read at least one chapter of the New, one chapter of the Old, one Proverb (according to the date, like today it’d be 13), and five Psalms – the date, plus thirty, plus thirty, plus thirty, plus thirty. (Today, Psalms 13, 43, 73, 103, and 143.) That means I will read every Psalm and every Proverb 12 times this year. I’ll also read completely through the Scriptures again. In the past, my BIGGEST problem has always been – when I am reading something, a verse, a phrase, or a word catches my eye, and away I go. Too often, with too many different translations spread out on the floor, with too many “study books” on the “topic” at hand and … Thus far, this year, I am able to get a better grip. If I notice such now, I keep reading until I am finished, THEN I race to the researching books. Only eleven and a half months to go, before I get to start all over again. :) Blessings, Taleb P.S. Hank, just NOW, I noticed WHEN you asked this question. Interestingly, the answer today is differant from April 17, 2001. :) |

6 | Oldest mother in Bible | Gen 17:17 | Taleb | 107656
Scripture doesn't say how old Noah's wife was, or her name. It says that Noah was 500 years old when he begat Shem, Ham and Lamech. Unless Noah "robbed the cradle", I'd say his wife was very old, wouldn't you? :) Blessings, Taleb |

7 | Why do we have Jesus stuck in a manger? | Col 2:16 | Taleb | 107615
Norm, what I love about history is it always and only involves HIS-story. And, as Searcher rightly stated, before Jesus could die for my sins, He FIRST had to be born. That said, I must say, the "history of Christmas" explains "the birth of Jesus." Christmas involves Jesus birth and majesty - period. The facts surrounding His virgin birth were important enough to prophecy about through numerous prophets, and it was important enough for God to dispatch numerous angels to broadcast the fact to poor shepherds, as well as a group of men who travel far merely to honor the birth of God who came in the flesh. The facts surrounding His birth were important enough for half of the gospel writers to include His Story in their gospels. The angels declared to the shepherds, “…I bring you good news of a GREAT JOY that is to be felt by ALL PEOPLE.” (You and I were included in that statement). "That news" wasn’t about the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. It wasn’t about the empty tomb. It WAS about the wonderful news of His birth. The Lord Jesus Christ’s birth IS important, because it helps us understand its beauty. Simeon’s words revealed he was waiting for Jesus birth, so he himself could die. Simeon KNEW the wonderful benefits Jesus’ birth introduced. Anna, the prophetess widow, didn’t benefit from His death, but the whole world benefited from what the Christmas story reveals about her. How dare we attempt to belittle the joyous season of remembering Immanuel’s (God with us) birth? Blessings, Taleb |

8 | Info on the day of Jesus' birth | Col 2:16 | Taleb | 107491
Hello, Bcollier. While what Makarios has written has merit, that is only one side of the multifaceted December 25th debate that has raged on for 19 or so centuries. Justin Martyr (c. 100-165) wrote in his “Apology” (I, 34) in an statement to the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, concerning actual census records, “as you can ascertain also from the registers of the taxing” that indicate Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Another author, Tertullian’s (c.160-250) “Against Marcion”, Bk 4, 7 makes mention to “the census of Augustus – that most faithful witness of the Lord’s nativity, kept in the archives of Rome”. When Julius was asked by Cyril of Jerusalem (348-386) to designate the true date of Christ’s birth from the census documents tht Titus brought back to Rome, Julius gave Dec. 25th. John Chrysostom (c.347-407), also referred to those records to support his claim Jesus’ birth occurred on Dec 25. Noting, that the best time for a census was AFTER workers could leave their labors in the field, rather then having them leave their fields. And recognizing the fact that travel from Nazareth via the Jordan valley (way below sea level) would provide them comfortable travel because of the continual mild winter conditions considering it is arid. From Alfred Edersheim’s “The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah”, one can learn of the many ancient Jewish sources which, in effect, state “flocks remain in the open alike in the hottest days and in the rainy season – i.e. all the year round” (Bk 2, p.186). Much like Jacob mentions to his father-in-law concerning all the years Jacob spent tending the flocks (Gen. 31:40). “... in the day draught consumed me, and the FROST by night …” (emphasis mine). And, although it might only add fuel to the burning confusion of Jesus’ actual birthday, there are always those who accept Valentius’ influence – January 6. Although that places us right back into the “winter solace” theme again. I can only say, “Yea and amen” to Makarios’ well phrased exhortation. Like Paul said in so many words -- So what? Jesus IS being proclaimed! The important thing isn’t WHEN Jesus was born. It is the facts OF Jesus’ birth, and the WHY. Blessings, Taleb |

9 | How can I answer Jehovah Witnesses? | 1 Pet 3:15 | Taleb | 107111
TommyS. Good question. Too many refuse to witness to those who need witnessing to the most – those who don’t have any of what they are attempting to “sell” – truth. A verse popped into my head when I read your question. Revised Berkley Version of 1 Peter 3:15 (although this is “out of context” like they ALWAYS quote the word) “…revere Christ in your heart as Lord and be always ready to make a defense to every one who asks you for a reason of the hope that is within you; but do it gently and reverently.” Before one can witness to one of a different “faith” ( I have to use that term, in spite of the fact JW’s and other such cults have a total lack of what faith is), one should know somewhat what they do believe. Do you know what JW’s believe, or are you merely guessing from “hear-say”? Although it has been years (they refuse to come to my house now), I have used THEIR material to prove them wrong. They are clumsy at obtaining honest data and it becomes obvious as they attempt to counter react to what Scripture says. If you have an abundance of JW’s in your area, talk to them. Let them ramble. Ask questions, without making comments. This way you will learn what they learn – how to make a “pitch”. Once you know their “pitch”, you can be better prepared to throw a “curve ball” before they “toss” their “home-run”. It will frustrate them, but, often, it will enable you to show them the error of their blind ways. The reason I quoted the above Scripture is for you to make sure to be gentle with them. Arguing gives them “war stories” to bring back to their meetings. Jesus used this “tactic” often in His ministry, if you read between the lines of His Word. Blessings, and Merry Christmas, Taleb P.S. To give you a clue about it being obvious about pagan’s inventing mens pants allow me to be brief. “God commanded man and woman to be fruitful and multiply.” Now do you understand? |

10 | Was there herding on/about December? | NT general Archive 1 | Taleb | 106875
JCrichton, like I wrote to Tess, "our" calendar was changed. December, now the 12th month, USED to be the 10th month of the Roman year, it's name actually comes from our word "decimal", like October comes from the number 8. Actually, when July and August were inserted into "our" present day calendar, all the other months moved up two. This hurried explanation might offer more questions than it answers, but here goes. The Jew's had two separate calendars. A civil one, which was the "official" one used for contracts, childbirths etc. and a sacred one, which was used to compute festivals. Every 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 19th year had an extra month (called "Ve-Adar) inserted into their year". It was added right after "Adar" - their (6th civil) 12th sacred month. Realizing "how" the Jews figured the passing of their time, and how it fluctuated from year to year, meant the "10th month of their year" wouldn't necessarily be the 10th month of our present day year. Stating that "December" as such is too cold for the shepherd’s to discount “December 25” as a possible date, doesn't mean it wasn’t the 10th month of the year which Jesus was born, as I spelled out above I heartily agree with what so many others have written, and written well. In effect, they have said, celebrating Dec. 25th doesn't add or subtract from the fact that Christ Jesus came as a baby to die as a man. The light of the world WAS born. So what if it happened to be at a time when the Jews celebrated the fact that they had light for eight days without needing to replenish their oil. So what that 8 days after Jesus was born, he was brought into the temple. So what that many Jews still celebrate the fact that the installation of their temple's foundation on the 25th month of their "DECember". “Let God arise and His enemies be scattered”. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Chanukah! Taleb |

11 | Christmas-Is It Christian? | NT general Archive 1 | Taleb | 106776
Tess, are you forgetting “our” calendar was changed? Is that the reason you feel Jesus wasn't born in "December"? John, Jesus' cousin was conceived shortly after Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), which is on the tenth day of Tishre (our Sept- Oct.). So John would have born in Tummuz (June-July), and Jesus was born about six months later. Luke’s CHRISTMAS story spells out all the fine details. I don't believe for one second these "dates" are in Scripture just to fill Bible pages. You can - IF you honestly don't desire to acknowledge the Almighty hand of a God in full control of this universe The Jewish month Kislev corresponds with "our" Nov-Dec. It is their ninth month. Read Haggai 2:18f and discover for yourself what it says about the 24th of Kislev (sometimes spelled Chislev) (our Dec) about the foundation of the Lord's temple being laid. The Jews have continued to celebrate this activity for centuries, long BEFORE any Druids thought up any holiday for Dec. 24-25. Cross reference that to 1 Cor. 3:11 where it spells out WHO is the “temple’s” foundation - Jesus Christ. And His people are His temple. By the way - HAPPY HANUKKAH! Today is the day Jews begin their eight days celebration with their "Feasts of Dedication". They remember the miracle of not running out of oil. Around the world, the candles being lit will be accompanied by blessings and chanting the hymn rock of ages, (Maoz Tzur). Jesus Christ is MY Rock of Ages. Blessings, Taleb |

12 | 7 candlesticks and the 7 stars | Rev 1:20 | Taleb | 106517
Your answer is in your question. Rev. 1:20: "As to the mystery of the seven STARS that you saw in My right hand, and of the lampstands, the seven STARS are angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands ARE the seven churches. This clue gives us "permission" to use other CLUES about the "stars" from the rest of Scripture. While some erroneously proclaim the "literal heaven and earth" will be destroyed, Scripture paints quite a different picture. Psalm 148:6 explains. Blessings, Taleb |

13 | Where ARE the four corners of the earth? | Is 11:12 | Taleb | 105603
TommyS, you ask some interesting questions. When I read this question in passing the other night, I knew I knew what you were talking about. At least I hoped I knew. :) It took some digging in my not quite organized filing system to locate an old article that refers to what I gleaned for you. According to the June 19, 1965 "Science News Letter" the four corners are: 1. One of the earth's corners centers over Ireland and sprawls northward towards the pole. 2. Another corner extends across the equator from New Guinea northward towards Japan. 3. A third corner is south of Africa centered about halfway to the Antartic. 4. The last corner is west of South Amercia, with the high point off Peru. If, by chance you desire more info - let me know. Blessings, Taleb P.S. I love how science so often proves Scripture, or is that the other way around. :) |

Your question about "the book of Jesus" needs more info. But your "What is another name of books of Moses" - depends. There are a number of "other names" used by a number of sources. For example "Chumash", "Torah", "Pentateuch. The later is sometimes "only Moses' writings" and other times it includes the boooks of Joshua, Judges and Ruth, depending on "the publisher". 16 | God's love | Hebrews | Taleb | 102516
Fred, IF you really long to “love Jehovah”, I trust you will “have ears to hear what my words say.” Not to be “trite” concerning your frustrating experience, but - “Been there, done that” comes to my mind. :) When using Scripture to back up anything, we MUST note to whom, etc. it is written. Like, Deut 6:1 "...the statutes and ordinances, which the Lord your God commanded that YOU (the Israelites) be taught to observe IN THE LAND into which you are crossing." Verse 3 says, "Hear O' ISRAEL" not 'Hear O' everyone'. The chapter refers to the physical land of of what became Israel before it was taken from them, as promised by the Lord. Matt 15:8-9 is connect to verse 1. It tells us to whom Jesus spoke His repuke. The Pharisees. Verse 6-7 is also connected - the hypocrites which added their "tradition" to what God had said, is to whom Isaiah wrote about and Jesus referred to. Tradition turned into "commands". Paul warns Christians not to get caught up in such teachings that place commands, ordinaces, rules to observe, etc. 2 Tim 3:16 states ALL Scripture is profitable for “doctrine”. This tells us that, “we can’t pull out pieces of a “topic” and ignore what the “rest” of Scripture says about that topic. So the topic of your question is “how to LOVE GOD”, correct? To simplify my answer, I offer two verses. Gal. 5:14: “For the WHOLE LAW (found in Deut) IS SUMMED UP in one statement – ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’. ! John 4:20 “If anyone says, ‘I love God’ and yet hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love his brother whom he has seen CANNOT LOVE GOD, whom he has not seen.” The concept that is “profitable for doctrine” that results from these two of many Scriptures is: ‘In order to love God with all our heart, our minds, our strength – one MUST first and foremost love his neighbor, whom he has seen, as much as he loves himself. The result is A LOVE FOR GOD that is NOT with lip service, as the Israelites (and others throughout the centuries) have tried to pull off. Fred, I trust these words will encourage you to act upon them. Do you remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:31-46? Jesus isn’t coming to “separate” those who ‘ate all the correct feasts, obeyed all the ordinances, or observed the Sabbaths’ from those who didn’t. The separating of the sheep and the goats RESULTS because there are those who “loved their neighbors as themselves” – rather than “loved JUST themselves”. Think about that! Have you ever noticed - those whom the Good Shepherd tends are AS ONE? “Sheep” has no plural. Neither does Christ's body. It isn't made up of Jews and Gentiles who believe. It's made of of whosoever believes become ONE BODY of Christ. Blessings upon you and yours, Fred Taleb |

17 | Hebrews or to the sons of the promise? | Genesis | Taleb | 102390
Shalor, you asked: “Was it to Hebrews or was it to the sones of the Covenant? Abraham and David were the ones the promises were made to.” The first thing that popped into my mind was Galatians 3:16 – “Now the promises were MADE TO ABRAHAM AND TO HIS SEED. It does not say ‘and to seeds’, as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your seed, which is Christ’.” So, according to Scripture, the answer to your question is: Abraham and his seed – which is “Christ”, which (according to Gal. 2:29) includes anybody who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. “And if you be Christ’s, THEN you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Hope this helps, Taleb |

18 | When did Abraham become a Hebrew? | Genesis | Taleb | 102364
Shalor, there are numerous Scriptures which spell out Abraham being the father of the Hebrews. How many were you looking for? As far as the premise of Abraham being "called" a Hebrew BEFORE being called of God - sorry, but I can't find any. Those verses you listed are AFTER Abram's "call to be the father of the Hebrews", if you will. Abram was FIRST called of God in Gen. 12:1 where he was intructed to leave his aging father and promised that HIS (Abram's) seed would invoke blessing upon the whole earth. Blessings, Taleb |

Christians are missing something that they need? They need to understand the Bible from a Messianic Jew’s perspective? If my Messianic Jewish brother were still alive, he would inform you much about his perspective. Like it not being necessary for everyone to be born again, giving John the Baptist as an example. Or, proving how the wedding at Cana was Jesus’, stating that to be a Rabbi – one needed to be married, and as God told the first Adam it wasn’t good for him to be alone, neither would it be good for Jesus – the second Adam. He would use "Scripture" to prove that satan was created as God’s pawn for evil, because God needed something evil to balance off His good. (If you are reading any Jewish material – you already know that idea is prevalent.) He argued in favor of re-incarnation, again pointing at Elijah returning as John the Baptist. Quoting the verse that “promises man three-score and ten years of life”, he could explain that’s the reason some die young. They came back to live another life in someone else’s being. (Another strong Jewish belief.) Does any of your literature explain who Rahab came back as? If not, ask any Rabbi. For years, our family would gather for Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. The Jewish members always outspend the Christian members. When my brother “accepted Jesus” he thought of himself as being a completed Jew. The Jewish side ridiculed him. The “Christian” side questioned his reasoning. He would come home drunk and preach to me in the wee hours of the morning. This Jesus, he preached, never denied the accusations tossed His way about being a glutton and drunkard. So that proved it was OK. Although my brother is buried in a “Christian” cemetery (that side of the family had an extra site), his kids made sure he only wore his tasseled “undergarment” – otherwise he was stark naked. They also made sure the rocks were placed over the site. The children, like other Messianic Jews, KNEW his spirit hovered over their home, until they would release it to “be born again in some infant, so he could get his “three-score and ten”. Oh, he celebrated the feasts and, wearing his skull cap and prayer shawl, faced Jerusalem when he prayed. They lit the candles, and ate Kosher foods only. Please read the New Testament carefully – it will save you from making the same mistakes too many others make. Paul meant what he wrote about becoming tangled up again in the yoke of bondage. Blessings, Taleb |

Searcher, I have a page stapled to my car insurance policy which adds another car to it. On top of that page is a NEW one which takes that same car off and adds another. All the NEW pages are a vital part of that OLD insurance policy. I would no more throw one of those OLD pages away than I would cast aside the OT. The OLD spells out the "vitals" of the NEW, even though much is "obsolete", the proof of the NEW is tied to the OLD. Most of the New Testament books have something like, "as it is written". Those words, or similar ones, show up throughout. Rather, I understand WHO the OT points to, and now that He (whom the OT paints has come into the world - that which pointed "towards" Him - those OT things which were only a "foreshadow" of things to come (HIM) - I believe! While some "strive" to obey the 10 commandments, I concentrate on the only one that remains. Jesus said, "A NEW commandment I give to you"... that you love one another ... its truth is reinforced by Paul's writings in Gal 5:14 "The WHOLE LAW HAS FOUND ITS FULFILLMENT in this one saying: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself ..." So, I DON"T HAVE to follow the OLD - I GET to follow the NEW. The "old" WAS obliged - UNTIL CHRIST set us FREE. The NEW is that freedom. So you will understand, I understand what it means to be "free from the law", I'll close with Paul's precious words in Romans 6:15 "...What does this all lead to? Just because we are not UNDER the law but under grace, are we free to sin? By no means! I, like you and others who believe God's truth, know Romans 8:3 "For what the law was POWERLESS to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, GOD DID by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering ..." Thanks for asking. Taleb |
