1 | how much water allowed the ark to float? | Gen 1:1 | TCfromCoventry | 196461
Hi RIC and GINGERBREAD! The best scenario (see for example AnswersInGenesis.com) is that at the time of the flood Mt. Everest DIDN'T EXIST! The major mountain ranges formed by tectonic plate movements as the fountains of the deep opened - the Atlantic opened up, the Alps, Himalayas, Rockies and Andies all got shoved up DURING the Flood. The land was much flatter before this happened, so far less water required. If the earth was leveled out today, there is enough water in the oceans to cover to a depth of 1.5 KM!

4 | Why give 10 percent in tithe after Jesus | Gen 14:20 | TCfromCoventry | 196442
Best as I understand it, tithing was established long before the law. It is not a part of the law. Tithe was given to the King of Salem (Melchisedek) who was also a priest (before the Law established the Levites. The Levites (priests) then had to live off the tithe, as they had no direct income of their own) Numbers 18:21. Melchizedek, being King and Priest, is a 'type' of Jesus Himself. Therefore Jesus' fulfillment of the Law, did not abolish the tithe, which is established for three purposes: 1) Finance for ministry - God's work in the world must be financed somehow, this is the practice established by God for that purpose. 2) An act of trust, that God can trust you with income that is not your own, and 3) As a covenant agreement (such as we have with God) is a two-way thing, faithfulness on our part in paying the tithe, can them be responded to by God being faithful to His promises for provision, guidance, protection etc. a covenant says "If you do 'a' I will do 'b', but if you don't do 'a', I CAN'T do 'b'". That's how our relationship with God works. (CAN'T of course does NOT mean "not able to" but means "not allowed to under a binding agreement"). Can you imagine how much God's kingdom on Earth would have if every born again Christian tithed? How much could be done! How blessed those Christians would be! To my knowledge, only about 20 percent of born again Christians tithe; amongst the denominations, its LESS! And here I confess that I'm not consistent with my paying!! Lord, help us to be more honourable with Kingdom Finance!! By the way, what is there in GOD'S WORD to say that Jesus' coming makes laws and rituals no longer valid?? Was Jesus a Jew? Were the disciples Jewish? Were the first followers of Christ Jews? Did the Christians in Acts still keep the Sabbath? Go to the synagogue? Keep the Holidays in the Jewish Calendar? Yes they did! in Western culture we've all but lost the Jewishness of Christianity, a loss which I believe is on God's heart to restore! There's a wonderful guy called Michael Rood with a TV show called 'A Rood Awakening' all about that. But that's another thing, and I've gone on too much already! |

7 | Pitt Minion format? | Bible general Archive 4 | TCfromCoventry | 195993
My local Wesley Owen Manager managed to discover this for us (many thanks to Richard Morris!) I'll paste his answer here: "Here’s the answer from another store manager who has a Pitt Minion NASB Why Pitt Minion? The Pitt Building (in Cambridge), built to house the (Cambridge University) Press and named after William Pitt, Prime Minister of Britain and Member Parliament for Cambridge University, lent the name to series of Pitt Press publications from the nineteenth century onwards. Minion is a traditional term for a type size approximately 7 point, giving text of about 10-11 lines to the inch.” So, very small type, as used and originated at Cambridge University! Hope this isn't too late to help with your decision! Interesting anyway!! |

9 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 195981
I hope someone with better knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong! As i unerstand it, it cannot be said with any certainty whether satan's fall was before or after Creation. In either case, satan's presence was a test for Adam and Eve's obedience (note: God gave His command to Adam; Eve would only have heard it from him; it is unlikely to have been "genetically" passed to Eve when God took the rib from Adam). God wants us to love Him (Hosea6:6).Obedience should be a fruit of love. Love can only be given freely - it cannot be forced (1 Cor.13:5). Hence, either a) God needed to know if Adam and Eve would love Him by being obedient (in this case God is deliberately limiting Himself, by denying Himself foreknowledge of His creation - God often does this in respect of the free-will He gave us), or b) God wanted ADAM and EVE to discover for themselves if they loved Him enough to be obedient. Think of all the different possible results! 1) Eve could have said "I DON'T believe you, serpent! GOD, there's a serpent here trying to trick me!!". Adam's response? "Well done, Eve!!" 2)Eve could have given in to temptation but Adam could have said "Eve! What have you done?! Have you forgotten what I told you about that tree??!" 3)Eve could have said "I'll have to ask my husband about this!" - in which case Adam could have either resisted temptation, or HE could have taken the fruit and said "Seem's alright to me!!". There could have been other variations too. The important thing is that GOD knew there will be a GOOD outcome, whatever happened - just different routes to that good outcome. Option 1) is the only one where a New Creation would not be needed (because sin failed to enter the world). Any of the others, sin would have entered the world, redemption required, then a New Creation for the redeemed to live in the restoration of eternal life. By the way, your 'kid in the candy store' would only be correct if sin was ALREADY present - before the temptation was presented, Adam and Eve had no trouble leaving That Tree alone. Do we genetically inherit sin? Have you noticed how you don't need to teach kids to be naughty??! |
