Grace and Peace be unto you. in John 14:7, Jesus is stressing the intimate connection between God the Father and Himself, God the Son. Jesus brought the revelation of God the father (c.f. John 1:18), in this way the apostles had full knowledge. Since Jesus is God the Son, when they saw Jesus, they saw God in the form of a human.(see. Phillipians 2:6-8) (John 1:18 NIV.) No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made Him known.(NIV text notes; God the one and only, is an explicit declaration of Christ's deity (see John 1:1,14). Sometimes in the OT people are said to have seen God (e.g., Ex 24:9-11). But we are also told that no one can see God and live (Ex 33:20). therefore, since no human being can see God as he really is, those who saw God saw him in a form he took on himself temporarily for the occasion. Now, however, Christ has made him known. | ||||||
