1 | What is the meaning? | NT general | Signmanbob | 230844
Mat.7:6 I believe that there are some, maybe die-hard atheist or those with alternative naturalistic beliefs or even other strong religious motivations, who have some hidden part of their lives that they desperately cling to, but wouldn't or couldn't tolerate having judgement made on Biblical standards, or releasing it to Jesus in repentance and submission. Those people would listen to your personal witness, Biblical and historical case for Jesus and the Resurrection, and before you have finished, they would viciously stomp it and trample it (and you if it is possible) into the mud, making it all into insanity, mythicism and nonsense, before they could allow it to intrude in their secret corner which they find such enjoyment in. There is a difference in those who genuinely search for truth and those who create their own truth from nothing in order to justify their actions. |

2 | Help in studying and reading bible | Gen 1:1 | Signmanbob | 123865
Hi, Priscellia As you can see you will get many very good answers to your question. The only thing that I might add is to be sure to get a version of the Bible that you are comfortable reading. The King James version has the beautiful old English which because it is difficult to understand may discourage the new reader. I enjoy the New King James Version which just uses more contemporary language. I also like the New American Standard Bible very much because it is said to be the most literally accurate translation. I believe it is good advise to begin one’s reading at the Gospel of John. He brings out the heart of Jesus best and will speak to the readers heart. Then I would go to Romans. The apostle Paul took great pains to describe the fundamentals of salvation through faith to the people of Rome and it was the book that most influenced John Wesley and Martin Luther. I believe it is also a good idea to finish the New Testament, maybe even a couple of times before going into the Old Testament. Without a fairly good understanding of the New Testament and the wonderful salvation that has come through Jesus the Old Testament (with the exception of Psalms, Proverbs and Geneses) would be very difficult to understand. Also you will want to use commentaries and a concordance. There are many helpful resources on the internet including this website and I also use www.blueletterbible.org all the time. 3 | Give me a little mor help on the hair ? | 1 Cor 11:1 | Signmanbob | 123782
I am not an expert on ancient Corinth but I heard Dr. David Jeremiah give a message on this passage and he presented a perspective that I had not heard before. He said that although this passage is culturally specific it also applies to today’s society. According to Dr. Jeremiah, in the time of the Apostle Paul for a woman to have her head uncovered was considered promiscuous. One of the most popular pagan gods of the time in Corinth was the goddess Aphrodite. Aphrodite was considered a fertility goddess who was worshipped through sexual orgies and prostitution. There were thousands of prostitutes in the temple of Aphrodite and it was common for them to walk the streets with their heads uncovered. This would be similar to the prostitutes of today wearing a revealing outfit to attract men. Through Paul’s teaching many of these prostitutes were getting saved and converting to Christianity. Because of the liberty of salvation through Jesus they felt that they could come to the Christian assemblies with their heads uncovered and boldly get up and speak or witness before the congregation. This would cause a disorder within the assembly which Paul knew had to be put to a stop for Jesus to be worshipped and the Gospel to be preached without distraction. This is why he was so adamant on this point in 1Cor 11. This chapter would apply today to a woman who would come to church in a revealing outfit. It would become a distraction and a disruption of the worship especially if she were to get up before the congregation and speak. Like I said I am no expert on this but I thought this might help shed some light on this very difficult passage. In Christ, SignmanBob |

4 | Good Friday | Mark 8:31 | Signmanbob | 123691
Hi Mike, The first thing I want to say in response to your question Mike, is to have faith in Jesus Christ. That He is the Son of God that suffered and died to save us from the destruction and Hell that would have been the consequence of our sinfulness and still will be for those who do not accept Him as their Savior by faith while they are in this flesh. He has made salvation available to all. For this reason is why we are here; to humble ourselves, repent of our sins and accept Jesus whom God has sent. John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent." (NASB) If this is all that you accomplish in this life time then you have “worked the works of God” (John 6:28) The next thing that I want to say is that this country and era we are living in is truly blessed because we have the freedom to read and study the Bible and come to our own conclusions as the Holy Spirit leads us without fearing persecution. If you think about it this is relatively unique to our time. In some instances the particular times of celebration and some practices that have been handed down through the generations have been compromised or tainted by other traditions that may not even be related to Christianity. When the Bible was not read by the general population these decisions could be made by some high ranking priests for political reasons and go on for centuries unquestioned. They become accepted tradition and are very difficult to change even though they may be inaccurate. Build your faith on the foundation of Jesus Christ alone. Don’t let you faith be built on traditions that may have been handed down in ignorance or on certain days of celebration that may have been compromised to make them more acceptable to certain societies that existed centuries ago. Luk 6:47 "Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: Luk 6:48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. (NASB) Read your Bible and keep your eye focused on Jesus. Heb 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (NASB) I pray that God will continue to reveal Himself to you and that you will grow strong in faith and character through Jesus Christ, our Lord. SignmanBob |

5 | Are we supposed to bribe to prosper? | Prov 17:8 | Signmanbob | 123090
I believe what it is saying is that the owner of the bribe (wrongly)thinks he is offering something that is so valuable because it has worked well for him many times, but in the eyes of God he is offering a temptation to sin and a stumbling block that will bring judgement upon himself and those who accept it. The NASB study Bible says of Prov 17:8 "A sad commentary on human behavior" At times it may become a temporary fix that will fail under stress (Prov 18:16-17) |

6 | Can you loose your salvation? | NT general Archive 1 | Signmanbob | 123007
Mat 13:4 And when he sowed, some [seeds] fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: I believe the key here is "really born again". Jesus showed this in His parable of the sower. Some may hear the Word and feel they believe but the Word does not really take root. Possibly because the person is not honestly willing to give up their sins or is too committed to gaining material wealth. If we say that we could lose our salvation because of something we do or don't do then we would have to assume that we gained salvation because of something that we did to deserve it. Rom 3:27 is clear that this is not the case. If someone could say they feel that they have lost their salvation it is only because they were never "really born again" as you said in your question. 7 | beat up christian | 1 Cor 10:13 | Signmanbob | 122955
Rom 7:22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, Rom 7:23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Rom 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Mike, these passages in Romans have always encouraged me when I was faced with temptation because I feel if the greatest apostle that walked the earth (my opinion) struggled with the temptation of sin in the flesh then it is only natural that I will also (being the wretched man that I am). I am strengthened in knowing that as a Christian the Holy Spirit dwells in me so although I have the mind of my sinfully afflicted flesh on one side of me, I have the mind of the Holy Spirit on the other. What I have to do is determine if the thought that is in my heart is coming from the mind of my flesh or the mind of my spirit which is indwelled by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the sword of the Spirit and will give me the foundation to fight this battle. If it is the mind of the flesh then my task is to reject the thought before it ferments and not entertain it or let it homestead. Many times this can become a difficult chore because the thought will keep coming back (especially if the temptation is that of a sexual nature that keeps crossing my path) and I will find myself rejecting it over again repeatedly. My experience has been that after a time it will become easier and easier to reject the thought till I can find a comfort in knowing that through my faith in Jesus Christ I have won a small battle in dieing to the flesh and walking according to the Spirit. Many times as Christians we can stumble in many things and confess our sin to God. Knowing that He will forgive us we can shake the dust of us and go on with our walk. Unfortunately sexual sin is different. Because of its nature it has a high cost. God will still forgive us but the damage will remain. I do pray that you (and I) continue to have the strength and love for Jesus Christ to walk worthy of the high calling. Also I have been trying to watch what is going on with that Bible study. 8 | WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK DID JESUS DIE | Mark 8:31 | Signmanbob | 122889
I also wondered about this because Him dieing on Good Friday just didn’t add up. Here is some info I gathered up that might help. In Christ, Signmanbob Mat 12:39 But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and (yet) no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; Mat 12:40 for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Jhn 19:14 Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!" Jhn 19:31 Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and (that) they might be taken away. New King James Version copyright 1982 Thomas Nelson on the sabbath day, for that sabbath day was an high day--or "great" day--the first day of unleavened bread, and, as concurring with an ordinary sabbath, the most solemn season of the ecclesiastical year. Hence their peculiar jealousy lest the law should be infringed. Jamieson, Robert; A.R. Fausset; and David Brown Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, 866-295-4143,) - The following study is by Dr. James D. Crumpton, founder, Maranatha Baptist Mission, Natchez, Mississippi: “The Lord Jesus was placed on the cross about 9:00 A.M. our time and was there until about 4:00 P.M. It was on Wednesday! He was taken down from the cross and placed in the tomb before sunset-- before the beginning of the sabbath. Note that this was not the beginning of the regular weekly sabbath at sunset on Friday, but a "high sabbath"--a Passover sabbath which came on Thursday that week! (See Lev. 23:5-7, where we find that the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread was a sabbath day.) At about sunset on Thursday He had been in the grave one day and one night. At about sunset on Friday, He had been in the grave two days and two nights. Then, just after the three full days and nights, He arose. He arose as it began to dawn the first day of the week (just after sunset Saturday, our time). The women came early Sunday morning, our time, but He was already gone. The expression "on the third day" in the Gospels referring to His resurrection would be "after the third day" in our way of saying it.” Way of Life Literature. Copyright 1997 – 2001 P.O. 9 | should communion be weekly | John 6:53 | Signmanbob | 122739
1Cr 11:25 - In the same way (He took) the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink (it,) in remembrance of Me." (NASB) We must steer clear of becoming legalistic or pharisaical in practicing the ritual of communion. Jesus gave us two rituals which concern Him. Those are baptism and communion. Both of these are outward signs of our inward faith and commitment to Him. Baptism does not save us, but is a sign to the world that we are saved through faith. Communion does not feed our spirit, but is a sign to the world that our spirit is fed with the blood and body or the life and salvation which was given to us through the sacrifice of Jesus. Communion is the Passover meal of the Christian believer. We do it “in remembrance” of the sacrifice that Jesus made for our salvation which causes the wrath of God to "pass over" us. There is not some mystical power in the bread and wine (or grape juice) that we eat and drink that will do anything in our spirit other than bring to our awareness what the Holy Spirit has already accomplished within us. It would be a mistake to think that John 6:53 is talking about the ritual of communion. It is referring to the spiritual indwelling of Jesus within the Christian believer. This is shown in the next verses. John 6:54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; John 6:55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink John 6:56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Surely there is no bread or drink in this world that will give anyone eternal life. The only way that happens is through faith in Jesus Christ. |

10 | Forsaken? | Matt 27:46 | Signmanbob | 121418
Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. Isa 53:12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors. 1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I believe from reading Matt. 27:46 that Jesus was experiencing an anguish that cannot be understood completely from a human perspective. For eternity past the Son has known the unity and indescribable love of the Father and Holy Spirit. They have been the three parts of the one Almighty God of all creation knowing completeness, love and fellowship within this unity. Because of God’s great love for the world He gave His Son (John 3:16) to put on humanity and take upon Himself the sin of all humanity. He became our “scapegoat” (Lev 16:21), the ultimate sacrificial lamb. In His perfect humanity He became our sin. For a period of time something happened that had never happened in all eternity. Because of God’s holiness He is the undefiled perfection of goodness, love and creative power. He cannot look upon sin. Yet Jesus in the form of humanity took upon Himself the sin of the entire world, past and present. In that state God the Father could not look upon God the Son! He became divided within Himself! Jesus experienced the inexpressible agony of being torn from the Father that probably made the physical suffering He was enduring pale in comparison. Maybe when we pass from this world into the presents of God to see the face of Jesus we will truly appreciate the love and sacrifice that God has made to redeem our souls. |

11 | Can babies be marked by anything? | Jer 1:5 | Signmanbob | 121312
I believe you can rest easy. An apology for not believing it won't be necessary. Although I am by no means a Bible scholar, I have read God's word cover to cover several times and can not think of any place that would even imply such a thing. The belief that the sins of the parents were carried on to the children was common even back in the time of Jesus. John 9:1 As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. John 9:2 And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?" John 9:3 Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. (NASB) I believe when one anticipates having a baby it is natural to be concerned about the health and well being of the baby at birth. Because of this concern you may find yourself vulnerable to myths, wives tales and superstitions. Many of these myths are so old that people assume they came from the Bible. I have even heard people quote Shakespeare thinking they were quoting the Bible. This is where it is so important for every Christian to read the Bible. It is dangerous to take the word of others and not read the Bible yourself. This ignorance of scripture is how cults are formed and their ranks get filled. I suggest that you take all of your concerns about your pregnancy to God in prayer and don't worry. Everything will be fine. Matt 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (NASB) Luke 12:26 "If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? (NASB) |

12 | The Blood, The Body | Heb 10:20 | Signmanbob | 121152
I believe that you are accurate in saying that we enter the presence of God "because" of the blood and “through” the body. The blood of Jesus represents the life of Jesus. Lev. 17:14 For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.' Because when we, by faith, accept Jesus as our savior our sinful life is covered by His blood or perfect life (as was represented by the blood of animal sacrifices covering the sin of Israel within the Arch of the Covenant from the on-looking Cherubim as it was sprinkled over the Mercy Seat) so that we can boldly draw near to God in "full assurance" knowing that when God looks upon us He no longer sees our sin or nakedness, but we are clothed in the perfect life of His beloved Son. This miraculous work was done “through” the humanity or physical body of Jesus. The fact that the second person of the Godhead was physically born on this earth of the Holy Spirit, lived a perfect life in obedience to the Father, suffered in physical pain and humiliation, died on the cross and was resurrected in the power of the Holy Spirit on the third day and ascended to the right hand of the Father where He now mediates on our behalf as our only true High Priest. Through His body He has blazed a new trail for us back to the Father that had been destroyed by the infectious sin of Adam. A trail that is readily available to each and every one of us. He truly is the ONLY WAY! I look at communion as a wonderful reminder that we are joined to Christ, redeemed to the Father by the blood and body sacrifice of the Son even as we exist in our daily lives. A reminder that I must daily walk worthy of the calling with which all Christians have been called. (ref. Col 1:10) |

13 | Has Anyone Changed His Mind? | Eph 2:8 | Signmanbob | 51614
Hi Hank, Speaking for myself, there is nothing that could be said on any forum that could pursuade me to believe such a thing. I think David Hunt put it well in his book "An Urgent Call to a Serious Faith" (copyright 2000, published by Harvest House Publishers) "If Christ's death in our place for our sins and His resurrection were not sufficient to keep us saved, then He has foolishly wasted His time. If we could not live a good enough life to earn salvation, it is certain we cannot live a good enough life to keep it. To make the salvation He procured ultimately dependent upon our faltering works would be the utmost folly." As Christians we "continue in His word" because we love Him. Our love for Jesus Christ compels us to obey Him. "This is love, that we walk according to His commandments." (2John 6) If works could cause us to loose our salvation, we would all be doomed. "O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:24-25) In Christ, Signmanbob |

14 | What do you do as "saints" when you fall | Hebrews | Signmanbob | 51457
Rom 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. Rom 7:22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, Rom 7:23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Rom 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death ? Rom 7:25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord ! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. I love these verses written by the apostle Paul whom I consider the saint's saint or the believer's believer. (I look forward to meeting Paul in heaven and just hugging and thanking him.) We are involved in a battle within our members and the prize is our soul (which has already been won by the grace of God the Father and the sacrifice of His precious Son.) Through faith in Jesus Christ we have been given the Holy Spirit to dwell within our spirits and bring life to our spirit that was dormant and ineffective without Him. Now with the life of the Holy Spirit within our spirit, we (our souls) are no longer slaves to the rule of the flesh, which is subject to Satan and will die and return to dust. Our love for Jesus Christ motivates us to obey Him more and more as we remain in His word and the Holy Spirit within us reveals the sin and uncleanlyness within our souls (which is the essents of who we are). This is an ongoing process of sanctifacation. For most of us it doesn't happen overnight. I have found that things that were a temptation at the beginning are no longer a temptation and that gives me faith to know that things that are a temptation can and will be overcome through the power of the Holy Spirit that faith in Jesus has given me. The more that I feel cleansed the more I realize I have to be cleansed. They say that the Bible will keep you from sin or sin will keep you from the Bible. I've found that this is a very true statement. Make a commitment to keep up with your reading of the Bible. It is the sword of the Holy Spirit for the saints. It is "living and powerful" and will convict your heart and stur your love to obey your savior who has brought your soul from distruction. If you fall down, get up. Remember you are not lost. You have a direction that you are going. Keep your eye focused on Jesus. In Christ, SignmanBob |
