1 | THREE WAYS TO BE SAVED? | John 1:12 | RAVEN | 51287
Hello Kimmy, You have ask the right question, but there are actualy five things you must do to be saved. Now before you say thats too many let me go over them. First, you must "Hear" the Gospel,Romans 10:17 "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Second you must "Believe" Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Third, you must "Repent" Luke 13:3 "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." Fourth, "Confess" that Jesus is the Son of God Matthew 10:32-33 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven." And fifth, be "Baptized" you ask the same question those who believed in Acts 2:37-38 "37Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, "WHAT SHALL WE DO?" 38Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And that is what a person must do to be saved. And once a person is saved God wants us to remain faithful to Him no matter what, even to death. Rev 2:10 I hope this has helped answer your question and if you have more please ask. Raven |

4 | "need" for baptiam | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 50600
Jesus gave the command that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24 46Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise[8] from the dead the third day, 47and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Jesus also commanded baptism. Matthew 28 18And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19Go therefore[1] and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. These things were to happen post resurrection, for He told them to go into Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit. Luke 24 49Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem[9] until you are endued with power from on high." The thief on the the cross was in the Mosaic age and under the Mosaic Law. Luke 23 39Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ,[10] save Yourself and us." 40But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong." 42Then he said to Jesus, "Lord,[11] remember me when You come into Your kingdom." 43And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." Jesus did for him as He did for all the others who believed on Him during His ministry. He new the man had repented so He forgave him. Baptism is used as a means to come in contact with the cleansing power of the the blood of Christ. But since there had been no death, burial and ressurection baptism was not necessary. Even John's baptism was not a saving baptism. It was only a baptism of repentance only. Why does it show the following example if this is not so. Acts 19 1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism." 4Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. I hope this has helped with your question? Raven |

5 | Why Didn't Paul and Jesus Baptize? | 1 Cor 1:17 | RAVEN | 50447
Hello Tim, The bible teaches in 1 Cor 1:12-16 that Paul did not want the people to claim being baptized in any other name other than Jesus. Paul was a witness to Jesus Christ and was sent as he said along with the other Apostles to preach the Gospel. By preaching the Gospel to a non believer will raise questions on how to be saved. The Gospel is the death, the burial and the resurrection of Christ. Upon believing many ask what must they do to be saved as in Act 2:37,Acts 16:30. Take for example Paul himself. When he waited for Ananias, He believed who Jesus was before he was baptized.(Acts 9:6) He went to Damascus as Jesus instructed yet still blind. When Ananias reached him and laid his hands on him his eyes were cleared and he arose and was baptized. Jesus said in Matt 28:19-20 to go and make disciples of ALL THE NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, "TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU. This as you know closes out Matthew. Keep this in mind for as you close out Luke in verse 46-47 Jesus says that "repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name TO ALL NATIONS,(theres that phrase again)beginning at Jerusalem. Question, the Day of Pentacost, first Gospel sermon after the resurrection, wasn't it in Jerusalem? And what did peter say Acts 2:38 REPENT and be BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST for the REMISSION OF SINS. Looks to me like what Jesus told His Apostles was done just as He commanded. Just because Jesus didn't baptize doesn't negate that inspired word of its necessity for salvation. The Gospel brings about the question "what must I do to be saved" and the answer "repent and be baptized". Raven |

7 | Self control and Spirit controlled? | 1 Cor 9:25 | RAVEN | 49955
Ecellent question! It is impossible for us to be controlled by the Holy Spirit and then also excercise self controll. For this to happen we would be in the likeness of Christ. For Jesus was the only one to be fully human and fully diety and sinned not. Hebrews 4 15For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Each person is responsible for there own actions. If we were controlled by the Holy Spirit we would not sin, we could not sin, for God cannot sin. Romans 14 12So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Eph 5:18 says to be filled with the Spirit. A person is filled with the Spirit by reading the Bible. Ephesians 3 3how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: Hope this helped with your question. 8 | trapped in marriage | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 49779
First of all, is the reason you have this dislike toward your husband due to an unfaithfulness in your previous marriage to him? If so did you divorce for that reason? Obviously you must have loved him at one point to have children. Have you spoke to your preacher about counseling? I think that you should also read Matthew 19:9. I think that you are trying to do the right thing for yourself scriptualy, just by knowing that you tried to reconcile yourself back to your husband. Have you ever read the scriptures in the bible that discuss marriage and divorce or is this knowledge that you know divorce is wrong just a feeling? My advice scriptualy to you is if your husband is a good man and is trying to do right, then it would be in your best interest to learn to love him. Luke 16 18 "(1) Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery. 1 Corinthians 7 11 (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife. And lastly, I would hope before you do anything that you would buy a copy of the book I told you about. It would be ggod for you and your husband. Raven |

10 | Why not Brothers? | 1 Cor 11:3 | RAVEN | 49743
Hello Rob M., Try thinking of it this way. Jesus Christ was a man. But He was also full Diety. While Jesus was on earth He was like you and I except He was also God. This is hard to get a full grasp of the first time but the scriptures tell us this. Philippians 2 6who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Jesus though He was fully God sufferd as a man. This had to be, so he could be a sacrifice for our sins. The reason for Father and Son would be just as the scripture you have referenced. Jesus "the man" wanted people to know God. Bringing people to God was His soul purpose. Jesus once said " I must be about My Fathers business." Probably the best reason for the Father-Son relationship would be so people could relate to the love God has for us when He allowed His Son to be crucified for the sins of man. John 3:16 So that by believing in Jesus and obeying His Gospel we might have hope of an eternal home in Heaven. I hope this has helped and if you have more questions please ask. Raven |

12 | Age of accountability for children? | Bible general Archive 1 | RAVEN | 49306
Hello, I am a member of the church of Christ. This is a truh that we teach from the bible by examples that we read. Such as in the Old Testament 2 Samuel 12 13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. 14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. 15 And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick. Here we see that David by comitting a sin against God, the Lord causes the child to become very sick. Verse 18 18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. Now if we believe that a child is a sinful being from birth, then we would have to say that this child when it died went to Hell. But read on, verse 23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. Where do you think David meant he was going? We know that God chose David because he was a man after His own heart. Acts 13 22And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, "I have found David[1] the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will. And though David sinned he repented of them. So by this we can only know that David and his son are both in Heaven today. Two more scriptures that prove that babies and infants are not vile sinful beings. Matthew 18 3and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19 14But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Jesus said this, are we suppose to think Jesus did not know what He was talking about? Speaking of unscriptual traditions that are not even found so as that we should speculate. Think about infant baptism. Thats where this "total depravity" thing lead to. There is no biblical reference to infant baptism, but the whole book of Acts shows and tells how we are to be saved. The question was even ask, Men and brethren what shall we do? And they were told to repent and be baptised. Now a baby can't ask that question. It does not know anything about sin or anything else for that matter until it grows up. And that is where the "age of accountability" comes from. This is not a biblical term but it is biblical in nature, for each man is accountable for his/her on actions. There is really no set age to when a child reaches this. Some might reach it by 10 others might be 15. But unless there is a mental problem with the child, by then they should know right from wrong and have entered into that time where they will be accountable for their actions. For the bible says, 2 Timothy 3 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you WISE FOR SALVATION through faith which is in Christ Jesus. I hope this has helped and if you have more questions please ask. Raven |

14 | Jesus if God, what did Paul speak? 2 | Acts | RAVEN | 49099
This shold help with what tongues were spoken. The Crowd's Response 5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, FROM EVERY NATION UNDER HEAVEN. They spoke (unlike what people clam today or can prove) a true language. Not just babbling! Read on because everyone heard them speak IN HIS OWN LANGUAGE. 7Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8And how is it that WE HEAR, EACH IN OUR OWN LANGUAGE IN WHICH WE WERE BORN? This is somthing that NO toungue speaker today can claim or prove. This was truly a gift of God and was done to proclaim Jesus was the Christ, which resulted in the begining of the church. Raven |

This is all we are told and all you need to know. 1 Corinthians 4 6 Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, "THAT YOU MAY LEARN IN US NOT TO THINK BEYOND WHAT IS WRITTEN," that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other. 16 | Cain and Abel's sacrifies | Gen 4:4 | RAVEN | 47343
The way we know is by reading more of the bible. We find through out the Old Testament that a burnt offering must be made. It was this during the patriarchs as well as in the Mosaical age. The only thing that one can do to understand how Cain and Abel knew to offer burnt offerings was that they were told by God. A lot of time passes in the following, Genesis 4 Cain and Abel (1) 1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man from the LORD." 2Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. We see that Eve gave birth twice and the children grew up and reached the time in their lives where it was necessary for them to make an offering to God. So at least 13-15 years probably goes by. This all occurs in four verses. The only thing we can know is that they were told beforehand. God not accept one and not the other if He had not done so. Raven |

18 | Lord's Supper discussion. | Acts 2:42 | RAVEN | 47208
The church comes together on the first day of the week, the same day which Jesus Christ was risen from the grave. Jesus said "as often as you do this, you show the Lords death till He comes". On the Day of Pentacost the church had its first sermon and the result of this was 3000 souls were saved. And it says in Acts 2:42 "they continued steadfastly(earnestly) in (1)the apostles' doctrine and (2)fellowship, (3)in the breaking of bread, (4)and in prayers. And later in Acts 20:7, it says they (being the disciples) came together on the first day of the week to break bread. This breaking of bread was not eating breakfast, lunch or dinner but the observation of the Lords Supper. The bible does show that weekly on the first day of the week that the Lords Supper is observed. Now for the reason that denominational churches only observe once a month or 4 times a year. The only answer I have for this that "man" decided to change the pattern for worship and remembering the Lords death on the cross took a backseat. Now most if not all denominations wait for holidays like Christmas and Easter to think of the death bural and resurrection of Christ. Its sad really to wait for pagen holidays before one directs their mind back to the most important day in a Christians life. Jesus said it best in this passage, Matthew 15 God's Commandments and Men's Traditions (1) 1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2"Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." 3He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4For God commanded, saying, "Honor your father and your mother';[1] and, "He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.'[2] 5But you say, "Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God"-- 6then he need not honor his father or mother.'[3] Thus you have made the commandment[4] of God of no effect by your tradition. 7Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8"These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And[5] honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men."'[6] Raven |

This verse should help! Acts 20 Ministering at Troas 7 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. 1 Corinthians 11 24and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat;[1] this is My body which is broken[2] for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. 1 Corinthians 16 Collection for the Saints Final Instructions, Personal Plans, and Greetings 1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: 2On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. Ephesians 5 19speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, Colossians 3 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Hebrews 10 25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Raven |
