1 | who was mary magalene | Luke 8:2 | Pusey | 180068
My own view of Mary Magdalene before she met Jesus (and there isn't any Scripture evidence) that she was a rich widow, living in Migdal on the shores of Lake Galilee, probably somewhat depressed hence the evil spirits no doubt menopausal, seeking for a cause to espouse. She found in Jesus that cause. Augustine calls her "The apostle to the apostles" and I believe she was a strong evangelist. The church couldn't cope with this and so identified her with the prostitute who washed Jesus' feet- but there is no evidence for this. I suspect she was a very repectable matron and needs rehabilitating in the 21st.c!
2 | Whats a womens place in the Church? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Pusey | 180067
I think I have commented on this before, but I'd appreciate some feedback as I am doing some research on the subject. 1 Cor.11 says women may pray and prophesy which sems to contradict 1 Cor.14, although the Greek word for "keep silent" isn't meant to be taken literally otherwise women would not be able to sing hymns, say the creed or answer amen. What about women teaching on tape? Is Gal.3:28 ontological or functional? Surely the Galatians would have not known the difference!

4 | Whats a womens place in the Church? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Pusey | 179565
We have to recognise that the place of women in 1st c was very different from 21st It is clear that women were leaders of house churches Lydia Acts 16 the church at Philippi was founded by women. NB Phil41,3 Romans 16 Priscilla clearly taught Paul and was joint leader of the house church. Junia (NOT Junias) was a person of note among the apostles and what of Phoebe, the Deacon? There is an excellent book "When Women were priests" by KJ Torjesen (San Francisco Collins 1993) It is clear that when , particularly after Constantine's "conversion" in 311, churches moved out of houses into purpose built buildings, the domestic domination of the female was lost. Think about the subject practically. Can you listen to women on tapes? Can women lecture in Colleges? There are a few culturally conditioned bits of the Bible and this is one of them, but Gal.3:28 says it all! |

5 | forgiven or not | Psalm | Pusey | 179240
The cross has a forwards and backwards perspective Look at Ps 103 12 When a person becomes a Christian, justification kicks in This doesnt mean that we can continue in sin and be OK, but it does mean that our sins are covered- wiped out |
