Dear One: As far as Christian verses Jewish “Bibles,” they are as different as night and day. The Jewish “Bible” is called the Torah and includes the first five books of the Bible. There is more to the Jewish Bible than just the first five books but I have limited knowledge of the Hebrew Scriptures. The Jews do not consider the New Testament the Word of God at all! As Christians, we believe that both the Old and New Testament are the inspired Word of God. Biblical translations are unique and it is difficult to understand all of them but allow me to share what I understand. The original Hebrew Scriptures are in Hebrew. Since most of us do not read Hebrew, we relay on Biblical scholars to translate the Scriptures from Hebrew to English. For us to accept which teachings are correctly translated it means understanding the team of scholars, their work, creditability, credentials, and their own personal statements of faith. If a particular scholar said that the Bible is a good book filled with nice stories – I would not find that person to be creditable. If they change the Word of God around to have it teach what they want it to - I would not find that person to be creditable. If a scholar changed the Word of God - I would not find that person to be creditable. If a scholar believes that Jesus was only a prophet and not the Messiah - I would not find that person to be creditable. I would also talk with people whom I respect, such as Kay Arthur, Beth Moore, Chuck Smith, Anne Graham Lotz and a church leader such as a woman who has taught Bible Study Fellowship, Precept Studies, Lord Series, or someone who has worked along side a strong godly leader. I would not talk to a child regarding their opinion, a neighbor who is not a believer, nor accept what a pastor may say, “Just because he is a pastor.” We may also study Hebrew for so we may understand the Word of God and read it in its original text. I would also seriously pray for God to confirm what is correct or in error. The only other example I may give you is how different people will see the same accident from various places. Each sees the same accident, at the same time, and when their reports are taken and then read, you may wonder if they saw the same accident, were they in the same general area, were they even on the same planet. As each person tells their version of what happened, you will hear their account based on the life, upbringing, and the influences in their life. The accident may also be filtered through if the person has been in an accident. All of these examples are shared because Matthew, Mark, Luke and John may have all been at one of the accounts in Scriptures but each writes their account a little differently because they each experience life and their relationship with Jesus differently. Hopefully this has helped, God’s blessing be upon you, Psalm 139:13 |

Dear One: This is my opinion, right or wrong, it is my opinion – take it or leave it, it is up to you. There are churches that are extremely conservative and do things word for word based on the Bible. They rule their church by the letter of the law and not the spirit of the law. Then there are churches that are so liberal that it is difficult to find Jesus or the truth in the Bible in their church. There is a huge spectrum of churches to view, look at their teachings, their lifestyles, and how their interpretation of the Bible. Some churches believe the Word of God to be true and they may add a few of their own teachings “to help” (their opinion) to live a godly life. A small example: I was Catholic until I turned 30. The first church I attended after leaving the Catholic Church was a Nazarene Church. The pastor was a real Shepard to me, we spent months questioning and discussing each of our beliefs. When I left the Catholic Church, I joined the Church of the Nazarene and was comfortable with their teachings. The church has a few extra things they asked of it members: I will only give a few examples, at the time I was a member the church asked, “Do not support the cinema/theater,” that meant no movies, don't go to the show, and do not have a TV in your home. None of the additional teachings were scriptural nor did the church say they were scriptural. They ask that you abstain. If I wanted to be a member of the church – I needed to agree to abide by their rules. If I did not want to be a member I could do as I please and decided if I want to go to the movies or not. They were not difficult things they were asking of me, and I was willing to abide by the church’s desires and request. When I went to a non-denominational church and sang in the choir, the church asked all choir members to abide by no drinking or dancing. I could choose to drink and/or dance and still be a member of the church but could not sing in the choir. I choose to sing in the choir, agreed not to drink, and not to dance because my desire was to sing in the choir and glorify God. None of the things they were asking were in the Bible but I choice to agree with their request. This same church asked that while I was ministering in an official capacity to wear a nice dress, and nylons when I was counseling women, teaching women’s Bible studies and/or praying with women when she came forward to receive Christ or had a need for a prayer request. I wanted to be involved in these ministries so I agreed to their request. OK, if I went to a church that taught every single person had to be baptized in their church regardless of their past baptisms. If you are not re-baptized, you could not become a member in the church. I would not stay at the church. I have been baptized as an adult, I know my baptism is valid and I do not need to be re-baptized again nor would I be re-baptized. That is not scriptural. If I went to a church that taught even though you have accepted Christ, walk faithfully with him for years, live a godly lifestyle, your life is an example to the community, the Fruit of the Spirit is evident in your life, and you are saved, no doubt – you are saved and profess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. If I knew that I was saved and someone told me that I had to be baptized to be saved – I would not join that church because I feel that is an important teaching and is not up for negation of Biblical belief’s. When I accept Christ as my Lord and Saviour, I am saved. If I am saved, I cannot be more saved than saved. Then the church teaches that I have to be baptized to be saved – I would not go to that church because I do not agree with an important teaching. I do believe that all who are in Christ need to be baptized, as it is an act of obedience. However, once you are saved you cannot be more saved than saved. If you would prefer to share a few examples of how you feel, what you have seen, and how people have spoken to you regarding the church’s teachings I may better be able to answer your questions. Do not lose heart it is good to question what you believe and what your church teaches. Questions can cause a person to take a stand on what they believe or what they don’t believe. By no means are we to accept blindly someone’s teachings. When a body of believers is not allowed to question their leader then things like Jones Town happens. I do not know all the answers but I may share what I believe is true and these are my opinion. In Him, your sister in the Lord, Psalm139:13 |

3 | Need The Sinner's Prayer | Bible general Archive 3 | Psalm139:13 | 170797
April 17, 2006 Happy Easter! Dear A-Sojourner: After reading your request, I am not sure what you are asking, since the time has passed regarding your needed request– I am willing to help, if I may. That way if the need comes up again you will be ready. If you are looking for just the regular “Sinner’s Prayer” that would be easy to produce. If you are looking for the Profession of Faith in Y’Shua, do you mean in a Hebrew version and leading someone to Christ? I will use he rather than they or he/she to keep the information as easy as possible to read. Since there are several version of the “Sinner’s Prayer” it is important to make sure that the person you are leading to the Lord understands: 1. He is a sinner 2. He admits that he is a sinner 3. Ask that he be forgiven for his sin 4. Then either lead him (that is what I do) or allow him to ask Jesus into his heart, life, or being. 5. Then I will ask him is there anything that I may pray for you. 6. I thank the person that I am leading to the Lord for his courage and go right into prayer, thanking Jesus that He died on the cross for us, and it is only because Jesus has paid the price of our sins that we are now free from sin. 7. Then I close asking all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. 8. I always ask the person what has happened. I have him tell me what happened so I can make sure he “got it.” If he does not understand, what has happened then I go over the gospel again until he understands what has transpired. 9. I will ask him to tell three people what has happened today. 10. If it is a man that I have had the pleasure of leading to the Lord then I have a male from my church follow-up. 11. If it is a woman that I have had the pleasure of leading to the Lord, I will follow up in a few days, meet with her within a week and offer to disciple her. Usually I will disciple the woman 6 months to a year. If there are several women that I have lead to the Lord around about the same time I will start a discipleship group and ask for a six-week commitment at a time as we go through the Design for Discipleship, it has six lessons in each book, and six books in the series. It is an excellent study for new believers. The last thing I share with the new believed is that, right now, all of the “Angels in heaven are rejoicing”. I believe there is no greater joy than leading someone to the Lord and for all eternity, this persons’ life is changed. That is a powerful thought. With all of that said, this may be what you are looking for: http://www.campuscrusade.com/four_laws_online.htm this website is sponsored by Campus Crusade for Christ. They use the Four Spiritual Laws when leading someone to Christ. Initially when I learned “How to” lead someone to Christ, the Four Spiritual Laws method is what I learned and it has served me well. This website has the English version and a 100 other languages and versions of the Four Spiritual Laws, it also includes a Hebrew version. Since I do not read or know Hebrew, I would trust the creditability of Campus Crusade for Christ, as it is an excellent ministry known and very recognized by the Christian Church as a true Christian Ministry. If this helps, let me know, if it does not help let me know, and I will see what I can do. In His heart, your sister-in-the-Lord, Psalm 139:13 |

4 | Has anyone used the USB Digital Bible? | Bible general Archive 3 | Psalm139:13 | 170582
I am familiar with using USB Ports. After reading, all the information regarding the USB Port Bible, it seems that it is just like any other USB Port. If that were true, then depending on the source of display used it would be just using any retrieving devise. It would have a menu, choices, and drop down selections. In this case, it would all be on one USB Port and available to use with any means that allows USB Port connection. After reading all the information about this particular product it is challenging to understand if, the company is selling a USB Port or a certain translation of the Bible. The commentary that follows the explanation of the USB Port is very strong and one sided regarding the translation selected. Personally, this particular product is not an option I would consider; primarily, because of the limitations and restraints of the product. If I was looking for a way to have scripture readily available for use; either personally or scholastically I would just connect to the internet and use http://www.biblegateway.com/ I have found this resource to be very easy to use, it has a lot of translations in several different languages. It also incorporates word and topical searches, Bible dictionaries, commentaries, and many other available resources. In addition, to all of these features, it also offers ways to grow, daily devotionals, a guide to read the Bible through in a year, word studies and a lot more than any USB Port single translation. You did not ask this question, but please allow me to share something: the computer age is a wonderful tool if used correctly, and I am sure that is what you are doing, but there is nothing more refreshing than having my Bible ready to be opened and read. I do not need a USB Port, a battery, an adapter, an earphone, or electrical plug. All I need to do is have enough light to read. Even times when I cannot read my Bible, I can hold it next to my heart and allow God’s words to comfort me. I remember a friend shared that her young daughter, after accepting Christ, wanted to learn everything she could about the Bible. Each night she would go to bed with her Bible lying on top of her chest. When her mother questioned, “Why” her response was, I don’t know all the big fancy words, but God does, so I figured that if I hold it next to my heart, then He could let the words that He wants me to know to go through the pages of the Bible, through my skin and right to my heart. I will know what He wants me to know until I am older enough to read and understand all the words for myself. She held her Bible, closed her eyes, her mother kissed her softly on her forehead and the child went to sleep holding the Word of God. Save and secure. There are large Bibles that may need a wheel-barrel to transport. There are Bibles that are so small that you need a magnifying glass to read a word. Somewhere between the wheel-barrel and the magnifying glass is a happy medium. There is nothing like the written Word of God. I’ve had my current Bible since 1992 and it is like my right hand. It fits comfortably and assuredly into my hand and opens to the place that I need just for that moment and it ministers to my heart. It knows me; my favorite verses are underlined, promises of God with my name next to ones that He has fulfilled and ones that I’m holding onto for the future highlighted. It contains my tears on pages where I have wept before the Lord. It has dates in the margins when God revealed a truth to me in a new way. It has my handwriting from one end of the page to the other, noting explanation of a word, verse, or several paragraphs. I know my Bible backward and forward and it knows me. It knows just where to open: to encourage my heart, challenge my walk, call me to grow, and/or learn new truths about my Heavenly Father, my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who all dwell in me. My Bible is the Living Word and His Word is living in me. If I were using an electronic means to connect to a Bible translation, I would rather use http://www.biblegateway.com/, has many resources, available and use my Bible. If you are looking for an electronic means for using the Bible, this would be a source, and considering it only comes in the one translation and few if any additional features – it would not be my choice. Check with your local Christian bookstore’s “Bible person” ask his opinion as his knowledge will be more diverse and better able to assist you regarding this particular devise. He may also know other resources available that may better meet your needs and desires along with being able to ask question and return it should it be damaged or needs repair. I hope that I have offered some food for thought and please let me know your decision and if this USB Port Bible fulfills your needs and is a valuable resource. In His service, I am, Psalm139:13 |
