1 | 2Tim 2:15 Study dispensationally? | 2 Timothy | MrsBinGA | 108942
Hello, Ken! You asked "why is it that so many ignore the fact that one needs to study dispensationally, dividing the Word correctly?" I'm sure the answers you receive will be diversified, but in my opinion it is because this method of study takes work and discipline. Most Christians do not even read the Bible, much less take time to study it. This is why there is so much error in the Body of Christ and why it is so easy for cults to gain converts, even among "Christians" and church-goers. Majority of Christians do not know "why they believe what they believe". And what is really sad is, they are not being taught basic Bible doctrines in their churches. Years ago my husband worked with a Jehovah's Witness. This man was challenging my husband's faith in the area of the Trinity. My husband was a young Christian at the time, so he went to our pastor for help. Our pastor, of a large denomination, had no idea how to go through the Scriptures and explain this to my husband. And, yes, I believe we ARE being disobedient by not studying the Word correctly. I highly recommend the many indepth studies by Kay Arthur of Precept Ministries in Chattanooga, TN. Blessings to you, Mrs. B in Georgia |

3 | Should one try to be clear or muddled? | 1 Pet 3:15 | MrsBinGA | 107289
Happy holidays, Radioman2: You quoted: “Then what am I to do? If we shouldn't use arguments to promote the Gospel--because it's leaning on human wisdom and not God--then what are we to say? What do I say then when communicating my faith?” I enjoy very much discussing, debating, talking about the Scriptures - whatever you want to call it - with anyone who will listen. The following Scriptures and info were enlightening to me. Maybe they will be to you, too. I watched The John Ackerberg show one time when Dr. Hugh Ross was debating another gentlemen. When Dr. Ross would explain the meaning of a word in Greek, the other man would oppose him by saying "You're not a Greek scholar". I wanted to clariy that just because I'm going to share some Greek word meanings, I KNOW I'm NOT a Greek scholar. But I do have Strongs’ Exhaustive Concordance, and other excellent word studies books, and I can read fairly well with my bifocals. (smile) All the # references for the various Greek words are from Strongs’ Concordance. 1) Acts 9:29: “And he (Paul) spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.” KJV Notice that the Greeks disliked so much what Paul was telling them that they wanted to kill him? Doesn't sound like Paul was "gently make assertions with a smile on my face being careful not to respond to challenges someone might raise lest it sound like I'm trying to argue for the Gospel and not depend on the Holy Spirit?" And I doubt anyone would accuse Paul of not depending on the Holy Spirit when it came to sharing the gospel. The word “disputed” in this verse is #4802. It is the Greek word “suzeteo (sood-zay-teh'-o)”; comes from #4862 and #2212. “Suzeteo” means “to investigate jointly, i.e. discuss, controvert, cavil”. KJV translates this Greek word as “dispute (with), enquire, question (with), reason (together).” Here is a list of all the places this Greek word is found in the N.T.: Mark 1:27; 8:11; 9:10,14,16; Mark 12:28; Luke 22:23; 24:15; Acts 6:9; Acts 9:29. 2) Acts 17:17: “Therefore disputed he (Paul) in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.” KJV The word “disputed” is a different Greek word than the one used in Acts 9:29. It is #1256: dialegomai (dee-al-eg'-om-ahee); middle voice from #1223 and #3004. It means “to say thoroughly, i.e. discuss (in argument or exhortation)”. KJV translates it as “dispute, preach (unto), reason (with), speak.” The following list is all the places this word is found in the N.T.: Mark 9:34; Acts 17:2,17; Acts 18:4,19; Acts 19:8-9; Acts 20:7, 9; Acts 24:12, 25; Heb 12:5; Jude 9. The verses in Acts are especially interesting on this subject. 3) Acts 19:8: “And he (Paul) went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.” KJV “Boldly” is #3955, Greek word “parrhesiazomai (par-hray-see-ad'-zom-ahee)”; middle voice from #3954. It means “to be frank in utterance, or confident in spirit and demeanor”. KJV translates it as “be (wax) bold, (preach, speak) boldly.” Being “frank in utterance” is often received by the hearer as being “tactless”, or coming across as a “know it all”. Yet the Bible tells us this is how Paul preached; certainly not "muddled". The word “persuading” in Acts 19:8 is #3982: peitho (pi'-tho); a primary verb. It means “to convince(by argument, true or false); by analogy, to pacify or conciliate (by other fair means); reflexively or passively, to assent (to evidence or authority), to rely (by inward certainty). KJV translates it “agree, assure, believe, have confidence, be (wax) conflent, make friend, obey, persuade, trust, yield.” 4) Acts 17:1-12 says Paul “reasoned”, “explained”, “proved” that Jesus had to suffer and rise from the dead. Verse 11: “These (Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” The word “searched” is #350: anakrino (an-ak-ree'-no); from #303 and #2919. It means “to scrutinize, i.e. (by implication) investigate, interrogate, determine”. KJV translates it as “ask, question, discern, examine, judge, search.” The Bereans were “more noble” than the Thessalonians because they “scrutinized, investigated, interrogated, and determined” what Paul was teaching was true. What I've gleened from this is that God’s Word seems to be saying we are to thoroughly discuss, argue, debate, be frank in what we say and confident in our mannerism when we share the gospel with anyone. Blessings to you, Mrs. B in Georgia |

4 | How can I answer Jehovah Witnesses? | 1 Pet 3:15 | MrsBinGA | 107176
My husband and I were part of the foundation of Watchman Fellowship, Inc., a Christian ministry to JW's, Mormons, and other religious groups which are termed cults. We attended many "Ex-Jehovah Witnesses Now For Jesus" conventions held annually in Pennsylvania. Probably 99 percent of the testimonies we heard there and on audio tapes said the #1 thing that brought them (the former JW now born-again Christian) out of the organization was the testimonies Christians gave on how Jesus changed their lives. JWs do not have a personal relationship with Jesus. Yes, we are to "give an answer to everyone who asks us about the hope that lies within us". And I, for one, greatly enjoy "debating" and "reasoning the Scriptures" with anyone. But like Prof. Walter Martin always said an average JW can turn a seminary graduate into a theological pretzel within minutes. JWs, especially, have changed the meaning of almost every Christian term. Plus, they've changed Bible verses, such as John 1:1, to "fit" their own doctrines. These things can be so frustrating for Christians when we try to talk with them. How well I know! **smile** So, continue studying your Bible so you know why you believe what you believe; contact ministies such as Personal Freedom Outreach, Watchman Fellowship, Lori MacGregor (she is excellent and a former JW), and Christian Research Institute for literature on how to witness to JWs; tell the JW or Mormon what Jesus means to you in your life; and continue to pray for these people that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes to the truth. Happy Holidays! Mrs. B in Georgia |

5 | Needing information on Thaddaeus | Mark 3:18 | MrsBinGA | 57395
Hello Trwmedic! I use a great computer program called PC Study Bible Reference Library. It has a vast amount of resource material. But even with all the resources, the following information is all there was. The name Thaddaeus means "breast". One of the twelve apostles of Jesus (Matt 10:3; Mark 3:18; Thaddeus, KJV), also called Lebbaeus (Matt 10:3) and Judas the son of James (Luke 6:16; Acts 1:13). He is carefully distinguished from Judas Iscariot (John 14:22). Nothing else is known about this most obscure of the apostles, but some scholars attribute the Epistle of Jude to him. (from Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Copyright (c)1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers) I was going to suggest you look on www.blueletterbible.org. But when I did a search there for Thaddaeus it only brought up two Scriptures. Perhaps someone else has additional ideas. Sorry I couldn't be more help. |

7 | Is smoking a sin? | 2 Pet 2:19 | MrsBinGA | 56044
I, too, smoked for many years, and I didn't even want to quit. I can still see myself sitting on the side of my carport, cigarette in hand, saying "Lord, if you want me to quit You will have to take the desire away from me because I just don't want to." Looking back, which has been 8-9 years, I can't pinpoint the day I stopped smoking. But at some point after saying that "prayer", I just didn't want the cigarettes anymore - and still don't. I can't take any credit for quitting. God "worked in me both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Phil. 2:13). |

11 | If we are saved by grace alone through f | Eph 2:8 | MrsBinGA | 55427
The gospel doesn't save us. It is the gospel's message. As Romans 10:13-15 says: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" I don't mean this as criticism, but I hope you're truly seeking truth and not merely playing word games with me. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus! |

12 | What's contain in the gospel that saves | Eph 2:8 | MrsBinGA | 55334
The gospel is summarized by Paul in 1 Cor 15:1-4: "Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures," (NIV) The gospel is the saving work of God in His Son Jesus Christ and a call to faith in Him. Rom 1:16-17 says: "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: 'The righteous will live by faith.'" (NIV) Faith is more than an intellectual agreement to a theoretical truth. Faith is trust placed in a living person, Jesus Christ, and that He died in our place to pay for all our sins Rom. 5:6-8; I Cor. 15:3). Because of what He did for us, and our subsequently accepting His work on our behalf, we are now reconciled with God and stand complete in Christ Jesus (Rom. 5:10; 2 Cor. 5:18; Col. 2:10). We are also completely justified: "Through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses." (NIV) I highly recommend you read Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. I think they will help you immensly understand what Christ Jesus did for you and who you are in Him. Blessings to you, Mrs. B |

14 | Can we say that the gospel is the grace | Eph 2:8 | MrsBinGA | 55272
A wholehearted "YES!" Acts 20:24 says "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." The word "gospel" means "good message." Anything less than our salvation by God's grace is NOT a "good message." If our reconcilation with God could have been obtained any other way, i.e., if there was something God could have required of us that we could have done, He would NOT have had to send Jesus. But there wasn't, so He did! Remember in Acts 15 how "certain men who came down from Judaea" were causing problems because these men were teaching the Gentile believers that they had to be circumcised AND keep the law of Moses. What did Peter say concerning this? "Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they." God's salvation by grace is so simple to understand, but man messes it up because he always wants to DO something to EARN his eternal life. But salvation is a free gift from God in Christ Jesus. You can't "earn" something that is free and is a gift, right? That's what makes it great news! -smile- Have a blessed day! Mrs B. (Donna) in Georgia |

15 | Dreans, and Angels? | Heb 1:14 | MrsBinGA | 55166
Hi Justme! Concerning God speaking to us today through dreams: Acts 2:17-18 says: "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:" I think every born-again believer would agree we are living in the last days. Therefore, God does speak through dreams. The verse in Matt 18:10 alludes to the fact of "guardian" angels: "Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven." You may draw your own conclusions. But since the Lord said He Himself would never leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5) why would we even need a guardian angel? (smile) Blessings to you, Mrs B in Georgia |

16 | Jahovah's witness | Rev 7:4 | MrsBinGA | 54595
Hello Christian 7! Having been involved in a Christian ministry that witnesses to Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons, let me encourage you to know why you believe what you believe. Prof. Walter Martin, the leading authority on cult groups prior to his going Home, said "The average Jehovah's Witness can turn a Christian into a theological pretzel in a matter of minutes!" You will never be able to reach your friend by "arguing" Scripture. Yes, you need to do what I Pet. 3:15 says: "...sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" But praying for him is THE number one thing you can do. And be sure to share your testimony with him and tell him what Jesus has done for you and what He continues to do for you daily. Jehovah's Witness have no relationship with the Lord Jesus. And remember, too, their meaning of words are NOT the same as evangelical words. Example: Jesus to them is a created being, the "firstborn of all creation" that Jehovah (the Father) made; hell is only the grave. A couple websites I recommend are: www.watchman.org www.serve.com/larryi/ www.equip.org Be blessed as you share the gospel! Mrs. B in Georgia |

17 | Bible flash cards | Rom 12:8 | MrsBinGA | 54592
Nuge, if you have a typewriter you can type the verse on the front of the card, then place the reference on the back. If you have computer software, like MS Publisher, use it and use the same format as mentioned above. Index cards for printers can be purchased from an office supply store. The cards come 3 to a sheet and have perforations to separate them individually after they're printed. This method would be the fastest. If you have a color printer your text could be in various colors as I'll explain below. You can always hand write the verses, perhaps using various colored index cards for specific categories, i.e. red for salvation scriptures, blue for prophecy, green for promises, etc. Or use colored pens or markers for the categories and write on white index cards. Jack Van Impe's website used to have instructions on how Jack memorizes verses. This may help you once you get your cards made. Hope this gets your creative juices flowing. 18 | Does God have a spiritual body? | Eph 5:25 | MrsBinGA | 54204
Hello again In the Andes! I so enjoy your posts. They reveal a sincerity of heart in wanting to know truth even if the truth should go against what you presently believe. Have you ever pondered I Cor. 15:35-44? It speaks of various types of "bodies" and "flesh". We finite, 3-dimensional humans cannot possibly fathom, much less understand, our infinite God. But this biblical passage does say there is a natural body and there IS a spiritual body. I have heard so many popular t.v. evangelists/teachers using Biblical passages in an attempt to "prove" God has a body like man, even to the point of "proving" God is about 6 feet tall! What a damnable heresy! But what is even worse is true born-again believers are being taken in by these heretical teachings AND paying money to listen to it! From the beginning man has been trying to deify himself (make himself "god") and trying to humanize God. We will NEVER be able to understand God's ways or the things that pertain to Him OR EXPLAIN them. He says just that in Isa. 55:8-9. So, in my humble opinion, and based on I Cor. 15, I would conclude (at this point in time) God does have a spiritual body, as do angels. What a spiritual body is, I have no idea. But the Bible clearly states there is such. Have a blessed day, Mrs B in Georgia |
