1 | Would you go to war if drafted? | Bible general Archive 1 | McAllister702 | 71294
Isaiah 2:2-4 makes it clear that under God's kingdom, the nations will not be going to war. It is abundantly clear that left to themselves, the nations will not make this choice, so it is up to us who have dedicated our lives to God to be no part of the world, just as Jesus said at John 17:16. Furthermore, Jesus said that the identifying mark of his TRUE disciples would be the LOVE that they have for one another. (John 13:35) Most of those this nation has killed in wars this century have been of the same professed "Christian" religions. So it is clear that Matthew chapter 7 is in full fulfillment with many claiming to be follows of Christ, yet he does not know them. Jesus' true disciples will NOT take up arms against their brothers nor others who are pawns of Satan's worldly kingdoms.
2 | Is suicide a sin, will you go to hell? | Bible general Archive 1 | McAllister702 | 71293
ALL of us will go to "hell" when we die. Read Ecclesiastes 9:5, 9, 10. Here, Solomon is telling the GOOD people that they will go to "hell" (Heb. "Sheol") when they die. BUT, he also tells us what hell really is, nothing more than the grave, where we have no thoughts or actions. Acts 24:15 further tells us that the future resurrection will include not just the righteous, but also the unrighteous who died in ignorance of the truth, which will include probably most of those who committed suicide through the ages. 3 | Is Jesus Gods son? | Matt 3:17 | McAllister702 | 71019
Jesus did not perform parlor tricks. This verse is powerful evidence that Jesus was the SON of God, as the Bible harmoniously testifies to.
4 | The GRACE of an answer? | Job | McAllister702 | 71018
One does not need to assume equality with God to ask questions of Him. Indeed, consider the case of Abraham, who was known as God's "friend." (James 2:23) Yet, when Abraham learned of Jehovah's impending destruction of the entire cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, he questioned Jehovah's righteousness in destroying entire cities. (Genesis 18:22-33) God WANTS us to ask him "Why?" Only through thoughtful, meaningful prayer, followed by conscientious Bible study, do we discover the answers to "Why?" 1 John 5:14 tells us that no matter what it is that we ask ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, he hears us. Is it not God's will for us all to attain to accurate knowledge about his Kingdom's promises and blessings? The apostle Paul prayed for that very thing on our behalf, as recorded at Philippians 1:9.
5 | Why did Israel not include this land? | Gen 15:18 | McAllister702 | 71017
That is a very good question, and the implications of the answer are very important to us today. The primary answer can be found in Judges 1:21 - 2:3. Israel had become complacent, and in reality refused to TAKE the the land that Jehovah had promised them. In fact, driving out the pagan, wicked inhabitants was one of the requirements for taking possession of the land. Yet, greediness for slave labor and a desire to live the pleasure-seeking life of the Canaanites led the Israelites to seek covenants and to mingle with them. Judges 2:11,12 sums it up: "And the sons of Israel fell to doing what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah and serving the Baals. This they abondoned Jehovah the God of their fathers who had brought them out of the land of Egypt and went following other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were all around them and they began bowing down to them, so that they offended Jehovah." Israel would reach its fullest extent only much later in the days of King David, but the nation would continue to fail God miserably by refusing to stay away from apostasy. The judges brought salvation and hope, but Israel turned aside as soon as a judge would die. Then the kings, except for a small few, would only serve to lead the people away from Jehovah. So while Jehovah did promise a great deal of land to Abraham's seed through Isaac and Jacob, Israel failed its commitment to do what was required (and deserved) to claim it.
6 | Was it blood or just like blood? | Luke 22:44 | McAllister702 | 70934
Good question. Luke was a physician and so something like this would certainly have been of great interest to him. Indeed, modern medical science now knows that there is an medical condition, caused by extreme psychological distress, which can lead to one's blood passing through the sweat glands. It is known as hematidrosis. Knowing that he was to die the death of a disgraced criminal, he would surely have been worried about any reproach on his Father's name.
