1 | Is Extreme Metal appropriate? | 1 Corinthians | Joyful_Londoner | 159486
the very fact that you felt the need to ask if it is appropriate brings my mind that you already know it isn't. I know of the bands of which you tell. When I was younger I used to listen to the Sex Pistols, the Clash, etc, as a first generation punk rocker. Now I am in a relationship with God, I know that there are songs that not appropriate. How would you feel if you had a child, and one day you came home and they were listening to "I hate my Daddy he's a ********* I want to slit his throat" I'll leave the words to your imagination, but I'm sure you would feel a bit put out. These bands promote the same feeling. To have a relationship with God, we are called to a higher level. "Let your Gentleness be evident to all" (Phillipians 4:5). Pushing people around, inflicting pain, aggressive behaviour is not the work of Christ. No, we are not called to be wimps. We are called to be priests, to be holy (1 Peter 2:9). How blessed are the meek. Meek comes from the greek refering to a powerful stallion that has chosen to submit, but still has the power to go wild. We too must have that awesome power, but control it and let God use us for what is good. Finally, just because it feels good, it doesn't mean it is good for us. My Dad used to enjoy molesting us kids, but it didn't make it right. God Bless. |

2 | define sexual perversion | Rom 2:15 | Joyful_Londoner | 159482
As far as I can tell, the Bible doesn't actually refer to "Auto-eroticism". However, when talking of sin, Jesus does mention that "From within, out of men's hearts... impure thoughts... etc". My take on this, and the opinion of others that I have discussed with, surely in order to masturbate, you have impure thoughts, lust and desire. It is on these grounds that masturbation is forwned upon. It is also a selfish act, and can lead to an unhealthy sexual life. Self control is the desired goal here. Then there is the physiology argument. Reading in a recent issue of "Mens' Health", I have seen that lack of regular ejaculation can lead to higher cases of testicular or prostate cancer. Does this mean we can masturbate on medical grounds? My closing statement is this; what does your conscience tell you? Romans tells us about that being the line between sin and righteousness. If you feel bad about it, then don't do it. Don't let guilt ruin your relationship with God. |

3 | greek word meaning bible? | Bible general Archive 3 | Joyful_Londoner | 159386
There was a place called Byblos, in Pheonicia that was famous for books. As the Bible is a collection of books, it made sense to name it thus. Compare with "bibliography", a list of source information, or the French "Biblioteque" Library. Joyful_Londoner |
