1 | Characteristics of an Apostle | Acts 1:21 | Jocosity | 82578
According to the disciples, an apostle was one who: 1. had been at Jesus' baptism 2. had followed Christ's eartly minstry 3. and had witnessed the resurrection. However, Paul calls himself an apostle, based on the grounds that he was sent by God, and had seen the risen Lord. So there are two answers, depending on your definition of apostle |

2 | What was the apostles doctrine? | Titus 2:1 | Jocosity | 82219
The Old Testament! Christ did not come to throw away the old testament, but to fulfill it! BUT as far as teaching go, the apostles learned first hand from Christ the Way, and so they taught from what they knew... They didnt' need a Letter to the Church of Corinth to minister to others. AND if you want to look at it this way, all new testament scriptures either interpretations of, or fulfillments of Old Testament Scripture. God's will for man's life did not change after the crucifiction of Christ. He still called for obedient hearts, and all of that is found in the Old Testament... "I desire mercy, not sacrifice" I hope this helps! God Bless Jocosity |

3 | isaiah's message | Isaiah | Jocosity | 82213
Concerning the latter half of your question; Many scholars believe that Isaiah is composed of three sets of prophecy (and nearly all believe there were at least 2). If you look carfully at the book, you can see a definite distinction between sets of prophecy; pre-exilic, exilic, and post, corresponding to 1st Isaiah, 2nd Isaiah, and possible a 3rd Isaiah. So... if this answers your question, Isaiah most likely was deceased by the post-exilic period when Isaiah 44 (?)and onwards was written. I hope this helps a bit :) oh.. .and because of the three time frames for the prophecies, you can also find three different focuses for the message.. although I personally feel that it is a calling to turn to God (which I know, is general, and really is the thrust of the whole bible) God Bless |

4 | Struggling with a divorce | Rom 6:23 | Jocosity | 82205
Hey... thats a lot of questions! I think the most important one to deal with, is your question regarding salvation. After you understand that, I think you will be able to understand your children and your ex-husband a lot better. Look at Romans 6:23 The wages of sin is death. Pretty simple eh? Wages are something that we expect right? If you worked at a job, and they refused to pay you, you would most likely feel jipped or cheated.. because you expected your pay.. or your wage. The second key word in that verse is sin. What is sin? well.. from your question, I see that you understand that living with someone outside of marriage is a sin, but it goes beyond that. The greatest commandment in the bible is to love the Lord with all your heart, and when we don't do this... we are sinning... and I don't know about you.. but this adds up exponentially fast in my life! The third word in that verse is death... it is what God has set up to pay for sin... Death IS the wages of sin. Which means.. that sin, needs to be paid for by blood, or by death. This doesn't leave us with too many options... BUT fortunatly for us, and the rest of the world, thats only the first half of the verse. The second half says: BUT (BUT BUT BUT!!!) the GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our LORD! What does that mean? Well... lets look at the words again... A Gift... something that you give, without any expectation of a payback, or a return. A gift is yours to keep forever! The second word is ETERNAL LIFE (okay, I know its two words.. but you know what I mean)... well.. what is eternal life? simply put.. heaven. (and NOT death). SO.. reviewing... the wages of sin is death... this is what is expected of us from God, but He has provided this gift of eternal life... but now the quesiton remains.. how does it work? Well the last part of the verse says "Through Jesus Christ our Lord". What this means is, when Christ died on that Cross, he died for your sin and he paid YOUR wages. All you have to do to make the transaction complete (so to speak) is accept the gift that God has so freely offered. If you realize the truth of the first part of the verse, that you will have to pay for your sins, and then accept Gods gift of Christ paying for them instead, then thats it! Easy as pie:) ... and as an end note... your children are in no way condemned by your actions, BUT they also need to accept the gift of salvation, for as cute as they are, they have also sinned... I hope this has helped you. If it is unclear, or you have further questions, email me at poco_power@hotmail.com. God Bless |
