1 | Is the mind the battle ground? | Bible general Archive 2 | Jneo | 138512
Hi Majestic You might have noticed I have a question (and many others) of my own, but I will try to help with yours. Firstly, I am no expert so please feel free to disregard this ‘advice’ at any time. But I have some great friends who have helped me with similar doubts. With them in mind this is what I would suggest to you: 1) There is no concrete proof of the Bible (but equally there is no concrete scientific proof to the contrary – and I love that this is true!), so it is probably natural to have doubts. Also, the world (and the Devil/evil) are always a distraction. In fact, I think sometimes the closer you try to get to God, the stronger is the influence of the Devil to pull you away. 2) Jesus told us that if we believe in Him and seek forgiveness, we will be forgiven. I trust that Jesus spoke the Truth. The first thing is that you have to believe that Jesus lived and died for us (or because of us). The doubt you have is your human or mischievous side (basically your sinful side). But don’t beat yourself up over it, try to overcome it by…Yes, asking Jesus and trusting Him and above all communicating with Him. The Devil would not want you to be sorry, but the Lord wants you to be sincere. It’s up to you; you have a choice. 3) We are either with God or against Him. Everything that is not of God is evil. There is no middle road. It took me a long time to realize this. Unfortunately, even though many of us are trying to be on God’s side, most of us are not. We are after all human and suffer many distractions. But God is all-powerful and gave us this gift of life (a little healthy ‘fear’ of God is not necessarily a bad thing if it makes us sincere in seeking forgiveness). Maybe you could also ask God to forgive you for having the feelings of not really being sorry. God knows your heart and He’ll know if you mean it. 4) Most ‘human’ things will feel right even if they are wrong. It’s our nature. But to overcome it is the real challenge. No one said it’s an easy ride. In fact the Bible tells us that it’s a hard road to salvation. As long as you can see that some things that feel ‘right’ for you are not necessarily right in God’s eyes, hopefully you will get to a stage in your life when the things that feel right are those things that are right with God. This is how we grow spiritually. 5) It has a lot to do with spiritual maturity. Take a four-year-old child at bath time for example. Many young kids do not like bathing, they see it as something they HAVE to do and it is almost always associated with the end of playtime and getting ready for bed. As they get older they see the benefits of bathing and become disciplined in being able to do this for themselves. Once ‘grown up’ this same person after a long day at work or outdoor activity may say to themselves, “There’s nothing more I’d like right now than a nice hot bath!” Is this the same person? Ok, so it’s a poor example, but hopefully you get the idea. (Also, Jesus said that it is good to be like a child when seeking the kingdom of Heaven, meaning with an innocence and open heart I suppose, and has nothing to do with my example.) Perhaps you are still at an early stage of spiritual development where you are battling with HAVING to as opposed to WANTING to i.e. your conscience is telling you one thing but your heart is telling you another. 6) Be honest – God knows what you are thinking and what is in your heart. 7) You can never pray enough even if that means just ‘communicating’ with God while walking down the street or going about your daily activities. You can do it 24/7. The Bible is a fascinating book – the best ever written. Read it as much as you can. Especially the words of Jesus, they’re great. Try these chapters - Matthew 18 and John 8. |

3 | Did God create us to laugh? | Proverbs | Jneo | 138414
I'm sure there are better references in the Bible to laughter but here is one answer that may be useful. Proverbs and Ecclesiastes mention laughter and there seems to be nothing wrong with it except if it is mocking. I think that is what you have to watch. Proverbs 14:13, 15:13, 17:22. But 17:5, 20:1 Also Ecclesiastes 3:4 |
