2 | Is submission of wives for today? | 1 Pet 3:1 | Jerry C | 124353 | ||
Submission is very much for today, the real question is what is submission? I think people want to define submission to much to be "do whatever I say" which does infer slavery or ownership as you state. I believe that submission is more of an attitude and desire. A submissive attitude is that of not wanting to argue or be different, but rather to want to work as a single unit (A husband and wife are ONE). True submission is a desire to please and work together, not a reaction of doing whatever commands are yelled out (that would be slavery). You also touched on why we don't follow all verses in the bible (you specificly mention head coverings for women). Without getting into the specific issue of head coverings (as there seems to be debate about what this even means with some people), I think that we have become to relaxed in following what the bible does tell us. I think (a lot of, but not all) churches today push weak theology and doctrine, and I really believe that a lot of christians today don't have or know the theology and doctrine that they should, and don't know how to live. Using the head coverings as a specific example, go to a handful of other christian women that you know and ask them to find any verse related to that in the bible, I'd bet that the majority of them could not. How are we to follow Gods instructions when we don't even know them?? |
