4 | Will Jews make it to heaven? | Rom 9:1 | Inquisitor | 225005
I would have to agree with Beja and Searcher. The most powerful scripture of which I can think is from Jesus Himself in... Jn 14:5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Jesus' Words are pretty clear. In this Dispensation, we must obey His Commands and those of His Officially Commissioned Apostles. God bless, Inquisitor |

We're pretty informal and just love to discuss God's Word with fellow Bible students. But of course, it's always helpful if you can provide Book, Chapter and Verse and then specify your particular question. What ya got? Spill the beans and... God bless, Inquisitor PS: IF you have a bunch of questions, you might want to number them in separate topics, etc. Just a suggestion. |

6 | need scritpures to explain | Bible general Archive 4 | Inquisitor | 224988
I would have to say Searcher and John provided some very good and sound wisdom to your very difficult problem. The only thing I could add would be to respond to your daughter with as simple as an answer as you can get away with. You might compare this strategy to explaining sex or the birds and the bees to a child. Usually a four year old is not able to understand all the complexities of a human relationship and especially why they break up. BUT I too would encourage you not to lie to your daughter as kids are so sharp and remember far more than we think. And most importantly do try to get some advice/guidance from someone who has experience with counseling. IF they don't have specific experience with this kind of difficulty, breaking up of parents, maybe they can refer you to someone who has dealt with this successfully and you can seek their input. The most important and powerful ingredient you already have and that is the genuine love for your daughter and her well being. And finally, Welcome to the Forum. We're all looking forward to having you in our family of God's children. God bless, Inquisitor |

7 | What is "entering into God's rest?" | NT general | Inquisitor | 224959
Hebrews 3:18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. Hebrews 4:1-3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, "So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.' " And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. Hebrews 4:10 for those who enter God's rest also rest from their own work, just as God did from His. If we look at all these verses together in context, it seems pretty clear that God is talking the Ultimate Rest from our labors as christians, His children. In other words, it seems that the Hebrews writer (most probably Apostle Paul) is referring to Heaven. Notice especially the last verse where he's comparing our rest to that of God's Rest. What other meaning would you propose? It would be helpful if you provided some other verse to which you're referring. BTW, I could only find this phrase in the NIV, so please mention which version to which you're using. God bless, Inquisitor |

8 | About the Kingdom of God for 40 days | Acts 1:3 | Inquisitor | 224954
Apparently since we're not given the details as you've already confirmed, we're left to assume a lot. I like to assume the rest of the New Testament IS and DOES contain those details, at least as much of the details as we need. Remember these were Jesus' final words to His beloved disciples and He knew they would share the wonderful news to the whole world. BUT also remember at least the reaction of some or maybe even most of them. Acts 1:6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “LORD, WILL YOU AT THIS TIME RESTORE THE KINGDOM TO ISRAEL?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” The verse in caps is my idea for emphasis. We must remember these simple, common and un-schooled men didn't have a clear concept of what the Lord's kingdom looked like and apparently they weren't ready to understand it even if He tried to tell them or teach them. They were still looking for an earthly kingdom with Israel in the lead if not in exclusive possession. They didn't get the details of the interview between Christ and Pilate until after John was inspired by the Holy Spirit to recite it for us. Jn 18:33 Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered him, “Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?” 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?” 36 Jesus answered, “MY KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; BUT NOW MY KINGDOM IS NOT FROM HERE.” More Caps for emphasis. But Jesus does remind them of the coming age of power with the "Comforter" as He predicted earlier. I'm afraid none of us can possibly know for certain the answers to your questions but I am quite certain God has given us everything we need and the rest will just have to wait until after Judgment Day. All of us will have to be patient. But you have posed some very good, thought provoking questions. One last thought/reminder: Jn 21:24 This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true. 25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen. I'm also anxiously looking forward to see what others on the Forum might think of your questions and their responses. God bless, Inquisitor |

12 | Why the children? | Num 33:55 | Inquisitor | 224834
Another good reason in addition to those you've been given is the innocence of children. Thus they're assured a place in Heaven. There are several verses confirming this but one of the strongest is from the Lord Himself in Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” As you've indicated it's sometimes difficult to understand all of what our God does and the decisions He makes. To that I can only respond with Is 55:8 “ For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. 9 “ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. So we must simply accept the idea that our God truly is all powerful, all knowing much like a child simply accepts this idea about his parents. I hope this helps and God bless, Inquisitor |

Personally, I've always thought (along with millions of others) that IF we had the original autograph copies of the NT or OT, they would become objects of worship. There is a great tendancy with mankind to worship something we can see and grasp like a cross around our neck or a piece of wood purchased in Israel, hoping it's from Jesus' cross. I'm convinced God would never endorse the convenience of an autograph copy to survive and be worshipped this way. I'm also convinced we have all of God's Word as He intended. It's been burned and abused throughout these two thousand years but the Bible still endures with God's Protection and Providence. That's enough for me; how about you? God bless, Inquisitor |

Quoted from Cogito, Q1. If the brother of Jesus wrote the epistle of James, how did he learn to write and in Greek?? A1. To me it seems the easiest answer is the great possibility that one of the Apostles laid their hands on James and blessed him with the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. Q2. Were not Jesus and his family of the poorest peasant class? Literacy at that time was very limited and even if one could read a few words, writing was a limited skill, necessitating scribes. A2. Yes, indeed. Jesus was born of a relatively low class family but it's still quite possible they may have taught their kids to read and write in Hebrew. About Greek, I've no idea. I've always been taught that this, the great literacy and prose of the Bible, is one of the proofs of Its inspiration. There are so many reasons to believe that it really is the "God-breathed Word of God." You've just stumbled upoon one more good reason to believe. Have you ever read the books of either the OT or the NT and wondered at their marvelous prose and well put-together poems, arguments, discussions, all of the stories? It is a wonderful thing to behold. The guidance from God but through the minds and the hands of these men, showing their style and preferences as much as possible and YET showing a tremendous unity throughout the whole. I'm certain you'll get other responses with good explanations but that's me and mine. God bless you in thinking up a good question. Inquisitor |

15 | Who were the Canaanites? | Gen 24:3 | Inquisitor | 224806
Azure is right on target as to the identity of the Canaanites as they proved with their future fate from God through Moses and Joshua. But as to the why question, we're not given very much specific information. Of course later on, we learn that God wanted the nation of Israel or the Jews to maintain a pure bloodline for the introduction of His Son. Of course we also remember that He made an exception with Ruth as she became an actual part of that bloodline and she was a Gentile. As to the possibility of Abraham's knowing about this preference of God's pure bloodline, we can only guess. It does seem Abraham's mind was very close to that of God's Mind. Any thoughts from anyone else? God bless, Inquisitor |

16 | The error addressed in 2 Peter | Bible general Archive 4 | Inquisitor | 224792
Beja, I looked in Wikapedia for both antinomianism and nomianism and didn't come up with anything BUT Wikapedia offered the following Novatianism From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search The Novatianists were early Christians following Antipope Novatian, held a strict view that refused readmission to communion of Lapsi, those baptized Christians who had denied their faith or performed the formalities of a ritual sacrifice to the pagan gods, under the pressures of the persecution sanctioned by Emperor Decius, in AD 250. They were declared heretical. Novatian Main article: Novatian Novatian was a Roman priest who in 251 opposed the election of Pope Cornelius, following the assassination of Pope Fabian during the persecution, on the grounds that he was too lax in accepting the lapsed Christians. He let himself be made a rival pope, one of the first antipopes. He held that lapsed Christians, who had not maintained their confession of faith under persecution, may not be received again into communion with the church, and that second marriages are unlawful. He and his followers were excommunicated by a synod held at Rome in October of the same year. Novatian is said to have suffered martyrdom under the Emperor Valerian I, 253-260 AD. Novatianism after Novatian After his death, the Novatianist sect spread rapidly, were found in every province, and in some places were very numerous. Those who allied themselves with the doctrines of Novatian were called Novatianists; their own name for themselves was the ("katharoi"), or Puritans, reflecting their claim not to be participants in the lax practices of the Catholics by which they believed the Catholic Church to have been corrupted. They went so far as to rebaptize their converts. Novatianists (including Novatian) were labelled by Rome as schismatics in not submitting to the bishop of Rome, and were by Rome labelled heretics in denying that the Church has the power to grant absolution in certain cases (such as to the Lapsi—those who had renounced their Christianity under persecution but later wanted to return to the church). Beyond that, their practices were the same as that of the Catholic Church in almost everything, including monasticism in the fourth century. End of Quote. Is this that to which you're referring? I've never heard of the word as you reference. Just looking for clarification. God bless, Inquisitor |

17 | When was the beginning? | Gen 1:1 | Inquisitor | 224791
I like to read the story of Creation in Genesis as straight forward and as simply as possible. For example, each day was designated with "morning and evening" so we can be assured that God executed His Creation in a mere six days. AND those six days each consisted of 24 hours as demonstrated throughout the rest of the OT. When a day was designated some other value, some other Hebrew word was used. To me personally, this kind of simple message of Creation demonstrates the full Majesty and Power of God. We do get to enjoy the after-effects. You may remember Naaman with leporsy who wanted to be healed very badly in 2 Kings 5. But when he went and visited that prophet of God, Naaman wanted God to come out on his terms and heal his leporsy as he thought He should. That's NOT God's Way; I like to think God showed all that Power and Majesty with Creation and did so in private without witnesses as He created man last. Yes, we have to choose between Creationism or Evolution. I hope this helps and God bless, Inquisitor |

18 | wHO ARE SHEEP FROM ANOTHER FOLD | Rev 7:9 | Inquisitor | 224724
Quoted for context: John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. 17 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” 19 Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings. 20 And many of them said, “He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?” 21 Others said, “These are not the words of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” This verse 16 is very difficult to interpret since it comes to us "out of the blue" and Jesus doesn't explain it. As far as I know, the Bible doesn't give much commentary on this phrase "sheep not of this fold." We do know that quite often Jesus referred to sheep when He was really referring to people. With this passage we can't even speculate very much. I would not place too much value or need for discussion since it doesn't seem to mean very much to God or His Son. God bless you, Inquisitor |

19 | Man of God | 1 Kin 13:1 | Inquisitor | 224659
Beja and Searcher, It looks like I'm not going to get much more response so here goes... Once again, I was going for a more far-reaching and powerful point from our God. I see this story as emphasizing just to whom should we as christians listen. So many times in mankind's history, a person such as Charles Russell or Joseph Smith comes on the scene and claims to be a man of God. But he teaches alien concepts in contrast to God's Word. We as christians MUST compare what we hear from our fellow man to God's Word. Our best example is from the Bereans in Acts 17:10 Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Notice they were listening to the great and noble Paul himself but that didn't cut no great stuff with them. They went to their scriptures to check and match his words with God's Word. We must never think we can take a man's word when it's in contrast with His Word. 1 Kings 13 makes that very clear along with Paul's words in Gal 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. God's MUST always outrank anyone else when it comes to a contrast between two or more different sets of words. We must never let ourselves be swayed by the smooth and swave words of an experienced orator. We see more warnings in 2 Tim 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. We must take these words as directed from Paul to Timothy as though they were written to all of us. We must be on guard against those who have deceived themselves and then become very powerful in their speaking the perverted Words from God. Tell me what you think and God bless, Inquisitor |
