Elijah: 1 Kings 19:8 So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God. |

2 | A personal promise in Acts 2:36? | Acts 3:26 | Huron | 238575
Oops! Typo. I meant to say, "and by extension, to us today." I may have asked the question in an awkward way. What I'm getting at is that Peter seems to be saying that Jesus will help us separate from our wicked ways - our sin in this life, not just save us from the wages of that sin. Does that seem to be a reasonable understanding of this verse? |

3 | Where exactly does faith come from? | Rom 10:17 | Huron | 160391
Thanks Guys! I'm trying to see how this fits into Paul's account of justification in Romans 4 regarding Abraham. Huron |

4 | Did the 12 (or 120) believe on Penecost? | Acts 2:39 | Huron | 151260
Interesting question! First of all, I would have said 120 if you had asked me yesterday how many where there. Now, I'm not sure either way. Secondly, I think that they had believed for quite a while before they spoke in tongues. I had heard two years from the resurrection of Christ to the day of Pentecost. Not sure where that comes from. What do you think? |

5 | Bible versions which one is best | Bible general Archive 2 | Huron | 150213
The KJV is an excellant Bible. My favorite though, is the NASB which is use for my daily reading and for study. I also do all of my memory work in the NASB. The only downside with the NASB is that it is a mouthful to read aloud. I also have copies of the KJV, RSV, NIV, and NKJV at home to compare with.
6 | is a rich man not eligble for heaven? | Matt 19:24 | Huron | 146000
Jesus didn't say that it was impossible for the rich to be saved. He is simply noting the same thing that Paul would later say in 1 Corinthians 1:26. The poor in spirit tend to look to God, not themselves. Huron |

7 | Did Jesus purify the temple twice? | John 2:15 | Huron | 126080
Sorry about the typo, I meant "here", not "hear."
8 | short and long version of Mark 16:8 | Mark 16:9 | Huron | 125330
According to Metzger, the longer version was added. It is not in the Siniatic, or Vaticanus manuscripts (the two oldest). However, in the foreward to my Greek Interlinear NT by Jay P. Green, he claims that although the verses from Mark 16:9 and onward aren't included in the oldest manuscripts, there is a blank space for it's inclusion in one, and extra large text to use up the space in the other. I'd never heard that before! |

9 | Explain Romans 8:29 | Bible general Archive 2 | Huron | 110610
Answering your question regarding what should be the end in mind for believers, may I suggest Romans 12:1,2? "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect" Hope this helps! 10 | Help | Eph 2:8 | Huron | 110544
Dab, No mention of baptism in this verse (John 3:5), no mention of Jesus name, and no mention of speaking in tongues. Jesus is merely talking about the new birth with Nicodemus. Neither baptism, or speaking in Tongues are a requirement for salvation (Ephesians 2:8,9). Look at Abraham in Romans 4:10 - he was credited with righteousness BEFORE he received circumcision. 11 | What is this resurrection mean? | Matt 27:52 | Huron | 97262
I would tend toward them being before the Lord. The scripture really isn't clear about what happened after they appeared to the people, so any statement is really conjecture at this point.
12 | Raising from the dead | Acts 2:22 | Huron | 97175
There was no "secret" message. Generally if you want to understand the Bible it's best to take what it says at face value. Jesus raised Lazarus for two reasons: a sign that he really was God, and the fact that he had compassion for Lazarus and his family.
13 | NIV bible | Bible general Archive 2 | Huron | 92863
I would buy one. I've got three study Bibles at home: King James, NIV, and NASB. The NASB is my favorite. To me, the King James flows the best. NASB seems the most accurate. NIV is accurate, but it is harder to memorize verses in that version than in the other two. |
