1 | WHAT'S THE LAW | Rom 3:28 | HighTenor | 153162
Take a look at the Levitical Code for starters--it, and the other decrees that God made for the Israelites in the Torah (the first five books of the Bible). At the time, salvation was through observance of God's commands, from the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) to rules on proper diet and the sacrifice of animals. When Jesus died on the cross, however, he died so that we can be saved solely through faith in him (Romans 10:9) -- we're no longer bound by Jewish law to achieve the forgiveness of sins.
2 | DOES GOING 2 CHURCH SAVE U? | Acts 16:31 | HighTenor | 153161
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that church attendance is required to receive salvation -- indeed, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9 NIV). However, when you become a Christian, you not only enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, but you also become a part of his Church, which includes all fellow believers. Going to church (as in the building) allows you to meet with others, and, "as iron sharpens iron" (Proverbs 27:17a NIV), so meeting with others allows you to grow in your faith in ways that private reflection just doesn't allow. I think it would be safe to say that salvation is by faith alone, but growth is a product of many things, including a Christian community. |
