1 | Creation days | Genesis | HOTH | 239238
Hi DTS, You ask an excellent question and are right to wonder about these seeming contradictions. All of these verses must be (and are) in harmony. For this purpose, you must let the bible interpret the bible. The first thing to understand is that “in the beginning” is not on the first day. Notice the earth existed before God said, “Let there be light.” That light was the start of the first day and the start of this age, which will end when Christ returns. (John 1: 1-3) God and the Word (Jesus) were “in the beginning” and all things were made through Jesus. If “in the beginning” is the same as the first day of creation, then NOTHING had been created prior to that day. Yet, when the cornerstone of the earth was laid, “the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” (Job 38:7) Were the “morning stars” and “all the sons of God” created that same day, but before the earth? Now notice that the earth is formless and void. Was this the way God created it, that the angels rejoiced and shouted for joy? “In the beginning” is that time before God said “let there be light” and stretches back into eternity. It was a period of time when God created the heavens (universe) and the planet earth and the sun, moon and the stars. This is why we have light from stars that are millions of light years away. Why would God say, “Let there be light” if the sun, moon and stars already existed? Because God had made a “thick darkness its (the earth’s) swaddling band.” (Job 38: 9) The term “swaddling band” implies that there was light outside of this band, otherwise it wouldn’t be a band. When God said, “Let there be light” this thick darkness cleared enough to allow in the light from the sun. On the 4th day God cleared the atmosphere again, where the sun, moon and stars could be seen. Verse 16 merely expands on how God was providing the light by the objects created “in the beginning.” Hoth |

2 | Aren't Isaelites and Jews, one people? | Bible general Archive 4 | HOTH | 236532
Hi BarbW3, Are Israelites, Jews, and Gentiles, 3 different entities / groups?? The terms “Hebrew”, “Israelite” and “Jew” have different meanings within the context of the Bible. Hebrews are those subject to God’s covenant with Abraham, i.e. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jacob’s descendants. It does not include Abraham’s other children or Esau. An Israelite is a descendant of Jacob/Israel and his twelve sons. An Israelite would be any member of the twelve tribes of Israel. A Jew, as interpreted by the Bible, is a Hebrew citizen of the southern kingdom Judea or one of their descendants. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were not Jews. There were no “Jews” until the establishment of Judea. The ten tribes of the northern kingdom of Israel were not Jews. The first use of the term “Jews” in the Bible is found in II Kings 16:6. King Rezin of Syria recaptured Elath from the Jews. King Rezin had waged war against Jerusalem with his ally, King Pekah of Israel! So here you see Israel at war against the Jews! When the kingdoms were divided, God gave to Judah the tribe of Benjamin, so “that David My servant may always have a light before Me in Jerusalem . . .” Also, most of the tribe of Levi, the priests, moved to Judea because they were replaced by the King of Israel in their priestly duties. These individuals were also referred to as “Jews” because they lived in Judea. Israel was carried off into captivity by the Assyrians and fell below the historian’s radar. Later, Judea (the Jews) was carried off into captivity to Babylon. They returned 70 years later and rebuilt the temple. Their descendants are recognized today as Jews. Thus, modern Israel is Ancient Judea, not Ancient Israel. Therefore the words Hebrew, Israelite, and Jew, though related, differ in scope: Hebrew, is the most comprehensive of the three, and includes all who are described by the words Israelite and Jew; the word Israelite designates one descended from Jacob; and, the word Jew a citizen of Judea, usually of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin and their descendants. 3 | Were Noah's sons triplets | Genesis | HOTH | 236126
They were not triplets since Noah's first son was born when he was 500 years old and Shem was not born until Noah was 503 years old. Genesis 5:32 states that Noah was 500 years old when he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This would indicate that Noah's eldest son was born when Noah was 500 years old. The flood came when Noah was 600 years old (Genesis 7:11) and lasted for a year (Genesis 8:13-14). Shem was 100 years old 2 years after the flood when Noah would have been 603 years old (Genesis 11:10). Hoth |

6 | following Star of Bethleham | Matt 2:1 | HOTH | 234203
Matthew 2:1-2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king,[a]magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 2 “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” This verse is likely making reference to where the wise men were when they saw the star. They were in the east. Since they travelled west, they were east of the star and east of Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Or, if indeed it refers to the star, then the star arose in the east and travelled west and the wise men followed after it. The bible is silent on the actual number of wise men. Hoth |

12 | if a son is rebellious should he be sto | Deut 21:1 | HOTH | 232537
Hi Jennyh61, Your rapid fire questions, taking scripture out of context, appears to be insincere and argumentative. You should read the rules of the forum. Beyond that, I must abide by: Matthew 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." 13 | is there a waiting place till judgdment | 1 Chronicles | HOTH | 232291
Hi Shaneknox, Question: Do we go directly to heaven if saved when we die? John 3:13 “No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.” Ecclesiastes 9:5 “For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.” Acts 2:29 “Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.” 34 “For it was not David who ascended into heaven . . .” Paul explains how the dead in Christ will all be resurrected from the dead “in the twinkling of an eye” and will be changed, along with the Saints living at the time, into immortals. (1 Corinthians 15: 49-55) This happens when Jesus Christ returns “at the last trumpet.” Jesus told His disciples, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3) and “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven . . .” Finally Christ reveals when and where the reward shall be received: “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with me, to give to everyone according to his work” (Rev. 22:12) These scriptures show that everyone, except Christ, who died, are still dead, even King David. They know nothing and are unaware of the passage of time. Those in Christ will be resurrected to eternal life when Christ returns. He is bringing this reward with Him. Jesus Christ is coming to us; we are not going to Him. You are on the right track by turning to scripture. Remember, all scripture must be in harmony. When you see them all in harmony, then you will know you have the proper understanding. Hoth |

15 | Who was Abraham's heir before Eliezer? | Genesis | HOTH | 232212
You have asked 3 separate questions, so I will answer each separately. 1. Was Abram resentful due to losing Lot? I’m not sure what you mean by losing Lot, I assume you are referring to when they separated. There is nothing in scripture to indicate that Abram was resentful. 2. Could this indicate that Abram had adopted his nephew when his brother died? There is no reason to believe that Abram adopted Lot. We do not know how old Lot was when his father died. If Lot were adopted, then would he not have then become Abram’s heir, which he was not? 3. Was Lot receiving an inheritance of some kind? No. Lot did not chose Sodom, but all the valley of the Jordan, he settled in the cities of the Valley and moved his tents as far as the city of Sodom. Lot settled in the area east of the Jordan, out of the promised land in the area later known as “the Land of Moab” between the Arnon and the Jabbok. This area became part of the nation of Moab (Lot’s descendants), but this northern area of Moab was later conquered by the Amorites. The Amorites were in turn conquered by Israel and “the land of Moab” was settled by the tribes of Gad and Reuben. Hoth |

17 | Why does God say "us" in Gen 3:22 | Gen 1:26 | HOTH | 231895
The "Us" would be God the Father and the Word (Jesus Christ). John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. Philippians 2: 5-7 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 18 | How many hours were Jesus on the cross? | Mark 15:25 | HOTH | 231846
Hi Chaney, When Jesus was crucified, there were twelve hours in the day and twelve hours in the night (John 11: 9). He was crucified at 9 am or the third hour (Mark 15: 25). At noon, or the sixth hour, “darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,” or 3 pm (Mark 15: 15:33). At the ninth hour, or 3 pm, Jesus cried out with a loud voice. Shortly after this, Jesus uttered a loud cry and died (Mark 15: 37). So Jesus was alive on the cross for about 6 hours. When His body was removed from the cross and laid in the tomb, the sun was about to set and the Sabbath was to begin. This would be about the 12th hour or 6 pm (Luke 23: 53-54). A total of about 8 1/2 - 9 hours that Jesus was on the cross. Hoth |

20 | Explain Is. 45:23 and Phil.2:10 | Rom 14:11 | HOTH | 231828
Hi chaney, The difference appears to be only a matter of translation. There is no distinction in the NASB, which is a word for word translation. In Philippians 2:10, Paul is quoting Isaiah 45:23, as he also does in Romans 14:11. Hoth |
