1 | Some people believe it's Mouhammad | John 16:13 | Edie | 106801
Answer: I would say read this verse in context. Expand the number of verses read John 16:5-15. 5 “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’6 “But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. 12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14“He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 “All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. The New American Standard Bible, 1995 Update, (La Habra, California: The Lockman Foundation) 1996. Now for my reasoning: 1) Christ Jesus is speaking of the Helper sent in His absence after His ascension [NASB Greek Dictionary-3875. paravklhto" parakleµtos; from 3870; called to one’s aid:— Advocate(1), Helper(4). ] that will come and convict [NASB Greek Dictionary - 1651. ejlevgcw elegchoµ; a prim. vb.; to expose, convict, reprove:— convict(2), convicted(2), convicts(1), expose(1), exposed(2), rebuke(1), refute(1), reprimanded(1), reprove(4), reproved(1), show...fault(1). ] human beings of their sin. 2) For a definition of “the Helper” in Jesus own words, also Reference John 14:26 - “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. 3) Jesus Christ is the basis for the Christian movement and the Helper He sent to fill His apostles as stated in Act 2:1-4 helps me still today. [Acts 2:1When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. ] 4) Since Muhammad was a human being who was born about 600 years after Christ Jesus, he hardly qualifies to be the Holy Spirit who came to the Apostles shortly after Christ Jesus’ ressurrection. 5) Muhammad was the basis for the Islamic movement which diverges widely from Christianity. Also, He was a human being who died long ago. That fact prevents Muhammad from being a Helper to me in my Christian faith today. |

3 | NASB accuracy to Greek and Hebrew | John 1:1 | Edie | 106617
Thank you to all who responded to this question!! Tho' I have no understanding of Greek nor probably ever will have any grasp of it (It's all Greek to me- ooooh, I know, bad joke), I have gained insight into God's Word and why I believe as I do! After all that is what this is all about. The challenges put to me by the JWs have been turned into a blessing by our ONE True God the Father, God The Son and God the Holy Spirit. Your sister in Christ Jesus, Edie |
