Justme I wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas. You are a diligent servant of the Lord and that has been clearly seen here on the forum. Some may not recognize the fact that when you chase rabbits you often provide new food for thought. You are continually in our prayers and you are a living testimony of God's healing grace. I am in agreement with your prayer request to God that He will protect our country, to guide and lead our President and to watch over believers everywhere. I appreciate you my brother. |

5 | Isn't it time to say good night? | Bible general | EdB | 244001
Justme I totally agree, once denominational agendas become common place true Bible Study stops. It is a sad to see since I was a charter member and at the inception of this forum everyone involved had very high hopes for the forum. We even tried to keep it free of denominational bickering by instituting rules. However they got cast to wind and we arrived to the place we find ourselves today. Sad indeed! |

6 | Bible Study? | Bible general | EdB | 243976
Welcome Douglas This forum is a Bible Study building a Study Bible. May I suggest you pick a Book, Chapter or verse and make a comment or ask a question and the Study of that chosen passage will begin. Remember since there is no designated moderator it will be up to you to keep the Study moving forward in a productive manner. Not to discourage you but the layout of the forum makes it very difficult to discuss most anything without controversy and bickering, but with God all things are possible. |

7 | Need input on what felt like a "message" | 2 Pet 1:12 | EdB | 243970
John 10:1-5 (NKJV) 1 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." Hi PJSR Read the above passage, pay particular attention to verse 4. We must know our Shepherd’s voice! You started out by saying you didn’t know if you were a Christian or not. That is the first thing you need to settle before you try to decide whether a thought you had was of the Lord or not. You say you are questioning the Lord, why? Are you attending a church? Have you talked to your Pastor? If you say no to any of these you need to be in church and you need to be in fellowship with your pastor and talking these things over with him. As far as the message if I understand correctly you got two numbers 26 and 12 and you said you were going to read those verses. In which book? In which chapter? Many will tell you that Holy Spirit no longer talks to us, but that is simply untrue. Flee from those that say such things they are false teachers. The Holy Spirit does not change, His ministry is not limited. But beware Satan’s lying spirits also talks to us. Therefore we must know our Shepherds voice. Until you do, do not listen to any voice! My advice and I hope you take it is to decide why you question Jesus, until that issue is settled in your spirit you CAN NOT move forward. Once you get it settled in your heart, mind and spirit that Jesus is Lord then if you have questions come back here and ask. Until then attend church and talk to your pastor. |

8 | Do demons exist today? | Bible general | EdB | 243776
Coming from a Full Gospel background we believe demons do exist and that believers can and must cast them out should they manifest in another (unbeliever). But this must be done carefully and with full consideration of consequences. Matthew 12:43-45 is but one example of a possible consequence. As I said earlier I do not believe a Christian can be demon possessed but they can be oppressed and Ephesians 6 gives us proper remedy for that. Demon possession of a nonbeliever must be carefully dealt with. As we see in the Matthew 8 account and from Matt 12 account we see demon when cast out will look for a place to move to. If someone casts a demon out of an unsaved person that demon will try to get back in or go into another unsaved person nearby. I have seen over enthusiastic preachers in church services trying to cast out demons with no thought of where that demon if it did come out would go to. They never considered the unsaved in the audience; they just wanted to demonstrate THEIR ability to rule over demons. That was total nonsense and I’m sure the demons and Satan laughed. Before anyone messes with a demon they must make sure their house is in order, their prayer life will sustain them, that they have humbled themselves in fasting to the point they know that they know this is what the Lord their God would have them do. Demons are defeated and the blood of Jesus is the Passover Blood on the lintels of our lives. We do not need to fear them but we should not ignore them but I am not one to preach about them as I feel this gives them more press than they should have. |

9 | As Christians should we openly support? | Rom 13:1 | EdB | 243772
Justme Excellent question! Romans 13:1 (NASB) 1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. I believe it is our duty as Christians to participate in this country’s election process no matter how upsetting that might be. Yes it is hard to vote for people with no moral compass such as in this election, both candidates are without that moral compass. So it must become a choice over what they will allow or will not allow. We could vote a party instead of a person but fact have proven that many candidates of one political party do not always hold to that parties agenda and often do the opposite. So yes we must accept or reject each candidate on their own merit. I can not believe any true Christian can vote for a candidate that supports abortion, is willing to use tax payer money to fund abortion and openly mocks any religion that stands against abortion. Like wise I do not believe a true Christian can vote for a candidate that is pro homosexuality, insists it must be taught in our schools and again mocks any religion that stands against promoting homosexuality. I think it is ordained duty of every called man of God to proclaim this to God’s people be it from the pulpit or whatever means is open to them. As I said both candidates for current presidential election leave much to be desired. But the issue that I see goes beyond filthy speech, lying, deceit, amoral behavior which both candidates are guilty of. We must choose the one that will protect our babies from abortion, from the homosexual agenda, and from lies both these causes shower upon our nation. That to me is the line in the sand and I have never seen it move. |

10 | Do demons exist today? | Bible general | EdB | 243770
Justme Beja gave you an excellent answer to your question, however I would like to add a comment and offer an answer to your question how do demons oppress Christians. First my comment, other than what is mentioned in scripture we know very little about demons. Scripture show us that they are fully aware of God James 2:19. They respectfully answer God when asked a question. Luke 8. They do not know the future Luke 8 asking to be sent into the pigs who would then run off the cliff. And they know their destiny Matt 8:29. Much that is written about demonology comes from teaching of Islam. While I agree they probably know a lot about demons being a false religion, we also know from scripture 1Tim 4:1 demons are liars so what Islam says about demons should be taken with a large grain of salt. As to the question about demon oppression on Christians. First let me say I have no medical degree, nor do a I claim to be a mental health expert. I do believe demons can oppress Christians and they do it by causing depression. I believe when a Christian suffers depression they have taken their eyes off Jesus and are looking instead at what deceiving demons are showing them. I understand that there is clinical depression caused by chemical imbalances but I think many cases of both diagnosed and undiagnosed depression in Christians is nothing more than demon oppression that occurs when a believer takes their eyes off Jesus. I pray that saying this is not offensive to anyone. |

11 | Did you do it until today | NT general | EdB | 243745
I have done both, had my feet washed and washed others feet. Did I do it today? No. |

12 | Foot washing are still applicable today? | NT general | EdB | 243742
If you read John 13:1-17 you see Jesus washed the disciples feet. He didn't do it for hygene He did it to teach a lesson in humility. See John 13:7. Washing a brother's feet is a real lesson in humility for both the washer and the one who's feet are being washed. Be sure to read the above passage you will get a sense of what foot washing is. |

13 | Am I Biblically free to marry? | Bible general | EdB | 243734
Hi Brr101373 My heart goes out to you. You have experienced the worst of the worst. Take time and recover. Before you even consider doing anything else find yourself a GOOD and Godly church pastored by a man CALLED of God not a hireling. He must be a man of good reputation, a man that possessed integrity, and a man that lives in Righteousness. Find a pastor that will sit down and discuss all that you have told us here and work with him to get all things in your life on track with God. Take time, let God work in you. In your heart and most of all in your spirit. You have seen the worst of marriage and before you consider marriage again let God work within you. My advice wait, don't think about marriage think about getting in right relationship with a Godly church, Godly pastor and most importantly with God. I will keep you in prayer! |

15 | David's sons' priestly status | 2 Sam 8:18 | EdB | 243692
The Hebrew word Kohenim is talking of the function rather than title or authority and in this case it can mean priest, minister, advisor etc. See 1 Chronicles 18:17 (NASB) 17 and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and the sons of David were chiefs at the king's side. I like the explanation given in the Preachers Outline and Sermon Bible (POSB) (8:15-18) Government, Just and Righteous, Officials, Government of David; Officials of: David is said to have reigned over all Israel, establishing a just and righteous government. A picture of the organization of his government is given in this Scripture. 1. Joab was the military commander-in-chief of David's army (2 Samuel 8:16). He was David's nephew and obviously a brilliant military strategist. 2. Jehoshaphat was appointed the recorder or historian of David's court (2 Samuel 8:16). As the recorder, he kept records of David's administration and the official documents. Perhaps he also gave public notice of David's royal commands. 3. Zadok and Ahimelech were the two major priests during David's reign. They were in charge of the Tabernacle and of the nation's worship, no doubt supervising the other priests (1 Samuel 22:20-23; 2 Samuel 15:24-35; 1 Kings 1:7-8). 4. Seraiah was the court scribe or secretary of state who drafted official documents, handled correspondence, and maintained the court records. 5. Benaiah was a military hero who commanded the king's personal bodyguard, the Kerethites and Pelethites. David's personal bodyguard was an elite troop of soldiers who were given the specific duty of protecting the king and carrying out special, difficult missions for him. 6. David's sons were royal advisors, chief officials who served as confidential advisors to the king. |

16 | What is evidentialism? | Bible general | EdB | 243643
Presuppositionalism vs Evidentialism total nonsense. Does a Muslim come to belief in Allah because of Presuppositionalism or Evidentialism? Does a Buddhist? Romans say man knows there is a God. The problem becomes when man's intellect kicks in and man defines his god or rejects his senses. The important issue is salvation by belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior. Scripture says salvation comes by faith. Faith triggered by the Holy Spirit. That is what important, Man's decision to accept or reject the salvation freely offered to him. |

17 | Are we to bless Israel? | NT general | EdB | 243629
There are many theological views of Israel’s standing in relationship with God. Some says Israel is still God’s chosen and we must bless them to be blessed. Others says the church has replaced Israel in the God’s eyes and Israel is Israel nothing more nothing less. There is the covenant people that believe both covenants are in place and the New Covenant is an enhancement of the Old Covenant. Like some believe the Old Covenant has been replaced and the promises made in it are now null and void. Jesus told us to bless everyone, to love our enemies. Christians according to scripture are 1 Peter 2:9-10 (NKJV) 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. So I do not believe our blessing depend on Israel but rather how we live before God in front of all mankind. You are correct there is only one way to salvation and that is to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior for Jew or Gentile. |

18 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | 2 Tim 2:15 | EdB | 243624
How do they come to this conclusion? Not sure, but I think it is because the have allowed their perception of education to make them fools. As scripture says a fool says there is no God. There is a strong move toward the concept that religion is for the slow of mind, that an enlightened individuals understands the concept of religion was conceived in an attempt to establish a social order and moral structure for the less knowing. Most are atheist or at the very lest agnostic, so the denial of the second coming of Christ is a non issue with them. There is a very strong move in Education in America to remove God from our society. This starts in grade schools and progresses though out the education process. We should not be surprised of the results. The look at the cost of colleges and seminaries they have to do something to keep the classrooms full so they market Ministry as a great career that offers many benefits that appeal to young students. These students upon graduation find Ministry perhaps a little different than they expected eventually find themselves for one reason or another moving into education themselves. So the cycle continues. I had one professor tell me that while he was talking of Abraham and the great Patriarchs of the faith, at the beginning of the first semester class, noticed one student with tears in her eyes. After class when asked about it was told she had no idea who those people were and being totally lost began to cry. He then surveyed the class and found only a small handful of the students viewed themselves as true believers. This was a well known and respected Bible college where you would expect only Christians to attend yet in truth a huge majority were not believers and were only looking to meet the requirements of future job offerings. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, Look at the great Colleges all started as Bible Schools, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and etc. Almost all colleges at headed by people that aspire to be like these schools. |

19 | The right Bible for you? | Bible general | EdB | 243573
Let me add that many people have an agenda in this area and that tends to distort the truth. A few years ago the King James Only people put on a big push to eliminate any translation no KJV. Thankful this failed! However the fallout is still occurring. Many people know more about what is wrong with a particular bible than they do about what is right! I think any major translation is fine as long as you stay from the New World Translation which is Jehovah Witness based, and personally I avoid the New International Version and The Living Bible. You can't go wrong with The New American Standard Version. |

20 | The right Bible for you? | Bible general | EdB | 243572
I agree with much of what you said. I will not buy a NIV nor do I buy from Zondervan the publisher of NIV. My personal study Bible is the NASB but I have found I really can't read aloud from the NASB so I use the NKJV. The NASB 1995 revision was much easier to read aloud but still not what I desired. I'm hoping the upcoming revision will solve the problem for me completely while remaining faithful to the previous versions. On the subject of Christian Book stores I have mixed emotions. I browse them but I rarely find something I buy. Most are oriented more towards light reading, Christian gifts and trinkets than serious study. As a pastor I am most often forced to go to the internet or my denominational suppliers for the material I'm looking for. Lifeway is a great store but rarely has suitable Sunday School or discipleship material that I'm looking for. Mom and Pop Christian book stores are the true underdogs and most have gone out of business. Because there is such a variety of material these smaller stores can't possibly stock it all and if they have to order it, I might as well and eliminate the middle man. To find out which bible you want all a person has to do it go to internet and look for the many comparisons of the various versions that are out there. Also most book store and internet Christian Bible retailers also have a comparison chart on their site. What I find most difficult is finding a version that is easy to understand by bi language people where English is not their first language. I often lean toward the NLT in those situations. |
