1 | Discerning Gods v Mans viewpoint | Deut 18:21 | DianeDew | 55064
The longer we walk with God, the better we are able to discern His voice. Hebrews 5:14 indicates discernment comes by EXPERIENCE. John 17:7 shows that if we DESIRE to know, we will. Our familiarity with the WORD OF GOD has a lot to do with our level of discernment, too (Hebrews 4:12). There are many more such verses on Discernment. Go to http://dianedew.com/discern.htm |

2 | WHAT DOES PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT MEAN? | 1 Cor 14:15 | DianeDew | 54677
In 1 Corin 14:15 Paul says, "I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also." Praying in the spirit (i.e., in tongues) is valuable when we don't know enough about a situation, or don't know how to pray about a matter.
3 | Marks of the deciples? | Ezek 9:4 | DianeDew | 54664
The only "mark" placed upon God's people is mentioned in Ezekiel 9:4-6. There's a "mark of the beast" placed on unbelievers, mentioned in Revelation chapters 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20. Both are upon the forehead - although the mark of those who follow the anti-Christ also could be received in the hand, it says.
4 | IS TONGUES FOR TODAY? | 1 Cor 14:5 | DianeDew | 54661
I have talked with hundreds (thousands?) of individuals who say they pray in tongues - and none of them has ever told me they received it "by faith." If someone you talked to said that, it was just their own personal assertion, or perhaps something they heard (or thought they heard). It's not a standard teaching in Pentecostal churches.
5 | 2 Corinthians 11:4 | Deut 18:1 | DianeDew | 54658
I saw the ad in our local newspaper too. It said it was being published in 40 major U.S. papers. You're right, it WAS bizarre. For those who didn't see it, the full-page Moonie ad quoted (supposedly) authorities from every major religion - (false prophecies, of course!) - including Jesus, St. Paul, Mohammed, Buddha, etc., etc. - all of whom were quoted as saying the Rev Sun Yung Moon was the Messiah.
6 | What is Mormon relation w/Jesus? | John 5:18 | DianeDew | 54629
Mormonism teaches Jesus became a god after his death and ascension. (Gospel Through the Ages, 1958, p 21) It also teaches man can become God. (Jour of Discourses, V 10, p 223; Hist of the Church, V 6, p 306; Doc and Covenants, 132.20). The BIBLE, however, teaches Jesus claimed to be God while here on earth (John 5:18; 10:30-33) - and man is NOT God, never has been, and never will be: "...before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me." "...I am God... there is none like me." (Isaiah 43:10; 46:9 Cp. Isaiah 44:8) Mormonism also teaches the blood Jesus "shed" in Gethsemane pays for most sin. (Church News, Oct 9, 1982, p 19) Personal sin was not covered by Jesus' blood. (Morm Doc, pp 62, 669; Third Article of Faith; Jour of Disc, V 3, p 247) The BIBLE, however, teaches Jesus blood on Calvary paid for sin. (1 Pet 2:24) - ALL of it. "...the blood of Jesus... cleanseth us from ALL sin." (1 John 1:7) |
