1 | Making God your Own ? | Luke 9:20 | Daniel H | 65311 | ||
What a beautiful thing you wish to communicate! I can think of no better Scripture than Luke 9:20-26. God is Jesus. Jesus is the Latin name for Yeshua, which in Hebrew means, "I AM saves." God has become one of us (Jesus is also man) so we could become one with Him. But this is a deeply personal matter. The first disciples needed a revelation of who He is (v.20). So do we. Then we need to hear of His great love for us in that He died--how He suffered in your place and mine--and rose again--just to have us for Himself! (v.22) Then comes the invitation to personal ownership--"If anyone wishes [or desires] to come after Me." (v.23) I have loved you. Will you return love to Me? This exposes my heart, your heart. What is my desire? Is this Jesus who accepts me just as I am, is He not above all else and totally desireable? Then further ownership occurs: "Let him deny himself [we learn the necessity of learning to say no to other thoughts, desires, habits of our flesh patterns because we want Jesus and a close personal relationship with Him], and take up his cross daily [loyalty to Him above family, friends at any cost, one day at a time, one hour at at a time] and follow Me [follow Jesus in an adventure of trust, obedience and love, like no other, what I am truly made for--indeed, I am made for Him! My life will truly work no other way. I don't want it any other way. Glory to God! This is what the army of God is made of! "Lose your life for My sake!" (v.24)--no soft church pew here, no going through religious motions. "Gain the world" (v. 25)--that's one kind of ownership. Is that what we want? Full of video fantasies, sports, money, trips, designer clothes, cool with the crowd? Does this fill the soul and satisfy for long? "Ashamed of Me?" (v.26) This is no hole in the corner decision. Light shining in the darkness draws attention--even from those who love the darkness and would stone the lightbearers. But I am your glory, O sons and daughters of men! I am the head of every man. You owe your very existence to Me. I gave you life. I offer you eternal life. I offer you the Kingdom of My Father? Ashamed of Me before those who curse and bite that hand that feeds them. There is great glory ahead for those who are Mine from the heart. (v.26) |
