1 | Why do I want to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 13:1 | Cody Mac | 212353
Speaking in tongues is one of those things that churchs argue about and I dont understand why when the Bible is very clear on what speaking in tongues is. I want to make sure you understand what the Scripture says speaking in tongues is. The first instance we have of speaking in tongues is in Acts chapter 2. The word you will find in the greek in the place of tongues is glossa and it can mean the tongue, the body part that is or a dialect or language used by a people distinct from that of other languages. The most we see his word used in a way to promote a spiritual gift or miracle from God is in 1 Corinthians. However the most supporting of what tongues is, is in Acts 2. Act 2:4 And they were all filled of the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Act 2:5 And dwelling at Jerusalem there were Jews, devout men out of every nation under heaven. Act 2:6 But this sound occurring, the multitude came together and were confounded, because they each heard them speaking in his own dialect. Act 2:7 And they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, Behold, are not these who speak all Galileans? Act 2:8 And how do we each hear in our own dialect in which we were born? Act 2:9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Act 2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Act 2:11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking the great things of God in our own languages. From this we know that the gift of speaking in tongues as described in the Bible is something that happen when a person is speaking to a group of people of a different language and is under the influence of the Spirit and from this influence each person that they speak to no matter their nationality will hear what they have to say in his or her own language when the speaker has no prior knowledge of the language that they are being heard in. So can you speak in tongues? What does the Bible say about people speaking in tongues today? Mar 16:17 And miraculous signs will follow to those believing these things: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak new tongues; Jesus said that speaking in tongues will be a sign of his power from those people who believe and do miraculous acts in his name. So how can you be sure that if someone who is claiming to speak in tongues is speaking in a language different than what they speak in. Well look at the congregation, would there be a reason for them to need to speak in another language, is there someone of a different language there? If not then be careful of that church. Also look at the 14th chapter of 1st Corinthian. No doubt speaking in tongues would be a most astounding gift but Paul says that it is a greater gift to have the gift of prophesy. Paul says it is a greater gift to speak in a plain and clear language and to prophesy to win souls and build up the church than to speak in different languages. Dont let this thing about tongues get you hung up if you dont get the gift. There are more important and greater things and it may not be what God has in store for you and trust me if he doesnt and give you another gift you will lead more people to him than if you were speaking in tongues because whatever he gives to you it will be for you specifically. |

I think it is fair to say that in the Bible if two people married then they made it work. A couple verses to think about are Matt 19:6. If you get married and believe that marriage is ordained by God then this verse is very relevant to you. It says what God brings together let no one tear apart. If you read a little further to verse nine Jesus makes it clear that divorse is only acceptable when someone has committed sexual immorality. Marriage is a binding act according to Jesus.

Perhaps one of the strongest reasons for this that immediatly comes to my mind is found in Isaiah. Ch. 63 and Ch. 40:3-5 They all speak about the second coming of the messiah. However many Jews believe this will be how the messiah comes first. With all his glory and might laying his wrath upon the earth and those that are not his elect. How do we know this isnt the case? That answer is in Isaiah too, ch. 7:14 and ch. 9:6-7. Probably the biggest reason they dont believe is because Jesus pretty much broke them when he came. He did things they didnt believe he should do and exposed them for what they were. He went so far as to make a whip and clearing out the temple. |

No you havent become beyond the reach of God and there are many verses to prove this. The fact that you are concerned shows that you are still convicted by the Spirit to seek repentence.

Jeremiah ch. 10 talks about a pagan nation that cut down trees and decorated them to worship them.
6 | Death God's friend or enemy? | 1 Cor 15:25 | Cody Mac | 207372
Well if you are a true christian you dont die, you will live forever with God and Christ in Heaven. Romans 6:23 says the wages of sin is death. People who live in sin are the only ones who should fear death because they are the ones who truely die if they pass on while living a life of sin.
7 | least in kingdom greater than John | Matt 11:11 | Cody Mac | 207371
Ok John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus Christ and the last of the Old Testament prophets, this is essentially putting a dividing line between the old testament and the new testament. Let me explain. When he says born of women he means mortal men of course. Before Jesus there was none greater than the old testament prophets but Jesus is saying that now since men have the knowledge of the glory of God via Jesus Christ while John the Baptist was a great man on earth that someone who merely new that Jesus was the Christ and believed in him and went to Heaven was much greater because he had had the oppurtunity to see the truth of God in Jesus. Its one of those verses that require indepth study of some stuff and might be hard to understand with just simple explanation like that. |

8 | selfmurder | Rom 10:13 | Cody Mac | 207341
Oh boy this question is always one answered in length so here I go. Ok it is never really addressed where you will go for suicide, for good reason. If we knew we went to Heaven if we killed ourselves think of how many suicides there would be of CHristians killing themselves after finding Christ. Then we would not be fulfilling out duty to spread the Gospel but if the Bible said we go to Hell then it might be to much grief on family members. So...lets look at a few other things first. The 13t Commandment is Thou Shalt Not Kill. Committing suicide is killing ourselves, so could you say that in doing so you are disobeying God and that is as we know a sin. So killing ourselves could be viewed as disobeying this commandment. Now in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you/17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy: for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. Here it is stressed that we are the temple of God, a temple is a very very sacred place is it not. So destroying the temple would have deadly consiquences would it not. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own?/20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore gorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's When he are born again we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and our sins have been washed away in the Blood. Christ dying on the cross was the price paid. After being Born Again we are no longer our own, our bodies belong to God. Is it not wrong to destroy something that doesnt belong to you. |

10 | married | Heb 13:4 | Cody Mac | 206635
This verse doesnt say they cant live together. Matthew 10:6, Genesis 2:24. This verse from Hebrews proves that sex after marriage can be fornication though. Sex after marriage is suppose to be between two people that love each other and out of love, it is also intended for reproduction. If two people get married soley to have sex it is lust. Lust is a sin, fornication.
11 | Psalm Refers to Jesus Calming the Sea? | Ps 107:26 | Cody Mac | 206633
Prophecy, no. When studying prophecy about the Messiah there can be no mistake which are prophecies and which are not why? Why would God make prophecies about our only hope vague for one. He wouldn't, the coming of Christ (his birth, not second coming) was an important thing and the prophecies given are very specific. The connection of these verses seems clear that they are infact Jesus is showing that he is God in the flesh, he is Messiah. The sailors prayed to God in Psalms and he answered. Jesus is God so Jesus did not merely know from reading scripture about this miracle but he actually did this miracle in Psalms and was merely doing it again to show that he as the I Am. |

12 | helping a friend | John 16:8 | Cody Mac | 206631
If you could detail your question a little more I could better answer. From what I understand the preacher is calling him out? I am assuming he is not directly pointing the finger and saying you come here but merely he is being lead by the Spirit to offer a inventation to come pray because your friend is no saved. If this is so then the Holy Spirit is probably working in your friend as well, which is why I give you the verse from the gospel of John 16:8. The Holy Spirit is what God sends to put our soul under conviction so that we may see the truth, so that we can see what is wrong in our lives so that we may ask for forgiveness and salvation. If he is being put under conviction keep praying for him! It is working!
13 | Job Talking About Jesus or Eternal Life? | Job 19:25 | Cody Mac | 206629
Job is talking about God the Father. God is refered to as Redeemer many times, Psalms 19:14, Isaiah 41:14. Redeemer in hebrew is go'el, used for God sometimes.
14 | Following Jesus | Luke 23:43 | Cody Mac | 206488
Ok to say we cannot do anything is a HUGE mistake. We are told to do something and that is to spread the Gospel. Gospel means Good News. The Gospel about Jesus. If all we did was go to church on sundays many of us would be disappointed on Judgement Day. When you accept Christ into your life your life is no longer yours, everything revolves around Him. We take up our cross to walk with Him. James 2:26 says that For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Faith is justified by works of love, we must work. Work can mean many different things for different people. 1 Corinthians 12:1-8 Here we are told that we all have different gifts, different ministries, and different ways in which we accomblish the same goal. Edifying the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12) furthering the Kingdom of Heaven. Some are called to teach, some preach, some evangelise. It goes on and on. So many people in the world and when you become a Christian God will make the way you speak to others unique but the important thing is that you do something. Going to church on sunday and then not giving God more than a second thought throughout the week is dangerous living. There is so much we can do but dont think you can do it ALONE. That is where so many go wrong, they think they are the ONES doing it and when you accept Christ into your life it becomes a team operation. You must put your faith in him and let him speak through you. Study the scripture and become closer to him. In Luke 21:15 it says For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all our adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. If you are a born again child of God then the Holy Spirit indwells in you. It is our link to Christ and Christ to God. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit. To study and become one with God, to put yourself totally in his control, then when you tells you to go and speak with someone Jesus will put the words in your mouth, no need to worry and as quoted from Luke being from Christ no one will be able to deny or resist what you are saying because it is the Truth. My point, we are to work for Christ, spread his Word, his Gospel. How? Study the Bible, grow close to God, dont limit yourself to Christians. Christ himself said he came for the lost. That is who we should focus on, how? It is different for every person what is important is to pray, trust in Christ to reveal to you how he wants you to work and speak to people, where he wants you to go and what he wants you to do. Then do it, just go. Its like a leap of faith. Trust in him to lead you and he wont let you down. I cant tell you how you will do it because you are different from me. And everyone else. |

15 | Christians Apostate Same As Anit-Christ? | 1 Tim 4:1 | Cody Mac | 206401
Apostasy is the act of forsaking your faith and God. In laymans terms to committ apostasy you would have to willingly say hey I dont accept this anymore and choose something different. In the end in 2 Thess 2:3 it says that many will committ it when the Antichrist comes. What you speak of sounds more like someone that has been tricked maybe by false teachings or backslid back into sin. Both are dangerous but are not apostasy and do not mean you are being an antichrist. To be antichrist is to say that Jesus is not of God and that God is not the supreme being. (1 John 4:3). To do that is to be of the spirit of the antichrist. This and apostasy go hand in hand as you can see. |

16 | Suffering For The Sake Of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:12 | Cody Mac | 206400
Your post confused me a little but I am going to give it a shot. As for marriage, it says in Amos Can two walk together except they agree. It can be difficult in a marriage if one is a believe and one is not, I am not married but in relationships alone there have been problems if I Get into one with a non believer. Suffering for Christ though? In that instance I would not say you are suffering for Christ in that it is his fault you are suffering but more that it is the person who does not believe who is the source of the suffering. If they believed there would not be a disagreement. There shouldnt be anything that makes you suffer to be doing the work of Christ, as a Christian I look forward to doing things for Christ and talking to people about him. Idk if that helps but the second part to your last question confused me most. Now the suffering for doing his works. In Matthew 10:16-23 Jesus warns of persecutions, (remember also in the same chapter verses 32-33) um these verse 16-23 talk about a time when it will be against the law to be a Christian during the Great Tribulation when the antichrist hold dominion over the world. Still people even here in America will more or less metaphoricly or actually spit in our face no matter what. But we are promised eternal life in the end and riches in Heaven. A Saved man or woman will be able to stand up to Christ even to death, Christ will give us strength. I would say that anytime someone talks down on you or torments you for doing works for Christ and being Christians then you are suffering for Christ. Even if your spouse talks bad about it and down on you for it, you are suffering for Christ. |

I do not recall verse saying where you had to have a wedding but I think the Bible focuses more on what it symbolizes and means to get married. Go here and see if this helps with your question and finding an answer, you probably should research it some more too. http://www.bibletexts.com/glossary/wedding.htm |

18 | Why God bless a Roman soldier over a Jew | Matt 8:5 | Cody Mac | 206377
Neither of the passages you refer to are of Jesus choosing to bless a Roman over a Jew. They are refering to Jesus healing someone of palsy, more importantly the centurion came asking for him to heal his servant but said he was not worthy to have Jesus under his roof so he asked im to merely speak it since he had full faith that Jesus could do it. Jesus did it by word of mouth alone because he was happy with the man great faith in him. Matthew 8:5-13, Luke 7:2-10. The verses of 7:28-29 Jesus is closing his illustraton of the two foundations. One on rock and one on sand. |

19 | What Happened To The Tribe Of Dan? | Rev 7:5 | Cody Mac | 206340
Ok let it be noted that there is speculation about this. For a time Ephraim and Manasseh are considered under Joseph, while clans they are not individual. So there are always 12 and never 13. By Revelation Dan is believed by some to have slipped into being idolators. So that to keep it 12 Manasseh is allowed to take their place as a tribe and to be one of the 12 mentioned in Revelation. Kings 18:30-31 And the children of Dan set up the graven image and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land./And they set them up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh. Perhaps there are two seperate images or perhaps they tried to credit Micah with their inheritance instead of giving credit to God. Who knows. |

20 | Why is the Christian Church so divided? | Bible general Archive 4 | Cody Mac | 206338
Denominations? I am not sure why people think we need them, they are just dividers. If they were needed Jesus would have split his disciples up but instead he teaches that we are one body of Christ. Denominations are mans creation, someone at some time wanted to believe more strongly in certain parts of the Bible than others or in some cases they took it upon themselves to alter the Bible and what it says. Denomination is like religious racism, just like races clash so do denominations. 2 Timothy 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient. This verse says a servant of God will not strive when confronted. He will be ready to calmly teach and defend his views becuase they are from God. So shouldnt two people if they are servants of God be able to talk about the Bible in agreement? Amos 3:3 Can two walk together except they be agreed? |
