Gamaliel is mentioned only twice in scripture: Acts 5:34, Acts 22:3. In Acts 5:34-41, the story of how Gamaliel a Doctor of the Law and a respected member of the Sanhedrin, speaks up and addresses the high court on behalf of the Disciples, being of God or not. And then in Acts 22:3, we see Paul stating that he was taught by Gamaliel. Jewish tradition states that Gamaliel's grandfather was Hillel, the prominent rabbi who represented the liberal wing of the Pharisees in opposition to the more rigid, and conservative wing led by Shammai. |

2 | When did the year of jubile start. | Lev 25:10 | Coach Dololly | 184566
Jubilee (blowing the trumpet) - the 50th year after seven cycles of seven years, when specific instructions about property and slavery took effect. The word jubilee comes from the Hebrew yobel, which means to be "jubilant" and to "exult." The word is related to the Hebrew word for ram's horn or trumpet. The Jubilee year was launched with a blast from a ram's horn on the Day of Atonement, signifying a call to joy, liberation, and the beginning of a year for "doing justice" and "loving mercy." The 50th year was a special year in which to "proclaim liberty throughout all the land" (Leviticus 25:10). Specifically, individuals who had incurred debts and had sold themselves as slaves or servants to others were released from their debts and were set at liberty. Since all land belonged to God,land could not be sold; but land could be lost to another for reasons of debt. In the Year of Jubilee such land was returned to the families to whom it was originally given. |

3 | Should christian men wear earrings? | Lev 25:10 | Coach Dololly | 184510
There were men and women in the Bible who wore earrings (Exodus 32:2-3; Numbers 31:50; Judges 8:24; Song of Solomon 1:10-11). The Bible nowhere condemns earrings in women or men. The earring took one of its Biblical perspectives from "The Year of Jubilee" out of the old testament. In Lev Chapter 25 it prohibits anyone from selling himself or his land permanently. Verse 10 states "And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family". In this verse (proclaim liberty) is related to (freedom, liberty), it is a expression referring to the release of Hebrew slaves and of property every fifty years. If one was happy with his master or land owner and wished to stay where they were. They got their ear pierced to show that they wasn't enslaved no more. So everyone could see that they choose to stay there of their own free will. So in considering an earring here are some Biblical principles. (1) Why do you want the earring? Are you doing it to glorify God or to draw attention to yourself (2) What impact will the earring have on your life? Will it help you grow spiritually or is your desire to be like everyone else? So, as you can see, an earring is not necessarily a matter of right and wrong. It is more of a matter of what is acceptable, and what is excellent. 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 declares, “Everything is permissible" – but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible" – but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.” |
