3 | Was the thief on the cross baptised? | NT general Archive 1 | Bruce Killian | 176688
No and Yes. There are two additional forms of Baptism, Baptism of desire and Baptism of blood. If one dies or is martyred while "awaiting" baptism, one is considered baptized. In Acts 1:22 a qualification for an apostle required baptism by John. On the day of Pentecost all were baptized Acts 2:41. In John 1 John, Andrew, Peter, James, Philip and Nathanael were disciples of John the Baptist so would have been baptized.

The Bible restricted flogging to 40 lashes in Deuteronomy 25:3 But he must not give him more than forty lashes. If he is flogged more than that, your brother will be degraded in your eyes. The Jews reduced this by one to 39 in case there was a miscount so 40 lashes was never exceeded. But the Romans had no such limitation Jesus was probably given about 120 lashes. |

7 | English version with "Jehova" | Ex 6:3 | Bruce Killian | 176684
The Jerusalem Bible uses Yahweh. This is a Catholic Bible. Jehova is a mistranslation of the Hebrew YHWH. The Hebrew scribes Did not the say the name of God except in the Temple. So they put the vowel points for the word Adonai (LORD) to remind themselves not to say Yahweh. When the German translators saw the word YHWH (the German J sounds like the English Y and W sounds like V) they translated it Jehovah. It should really be Yahweh. BTW most English Bibles use all capital letters when translating YHWH.
8 | In MRK 14:25 what VINE was He tlking abt | Bible general Archive 3 | Bruce Killian | 176683
The fruit of the vine refers to grapes/Wine. Jesus did not drink the third or fourth cups of wine at the last Supper (Seder). On the cross his last act before saying te telestai (it is complete) was to drink sour wine. He was completing the Seder meal with his disciples and entering the kingdom of God. So the fruit of the vine refers to the Eucharist of his body and blood which His disciples sharred with Him.

10 | Calendar of Christ's public ministry | Bible general Archive 3 | Bruce Killian | 176173
Des, I have worked out a calendar of Jesus' public ministry from His baptism to the Pentecost following His ascension. I believe it is highly accurate. It includes a narrative of His ministry and at the end a Calendar detailing the timing of the events of his ministry. See http://www.scripturescholar.com/Jesus2YearMinistry.htm If you have any further questions just contact me. |
