1 | God punish sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Asis | 113392
Is it really that God must punish sin or is it that He must judge rightly against disobedience. Adam (MAN) disobeyed God by choosing to do what God had said not to do. Could God sit back and do nothing? When we as parents set up rules in our house for our children, we do so out our love for them. When they disobey we still love them yet it is our anger that is aroused (wrath) and a penalty must be paid for their guilt. So it is with us and God. Our rebellion, our disobedience to God raises His wrath and our guilt brings about our rightful consequences. I hope this answers you question
2 | What is this salvation? | Luke 2:30 | Asis | 106869
Mommapbs We must think as those in the time depicted in Luke 2. Salvation as known to the Jews was the Messiah. Hence the capitalization of the word. It is a person - Jesus. This is why Simeon can say "For my eyes have seen Your Salvation." Gen. 49:18 “For Your salvation I wait, O LORD." 'The word "salvation" is a figure of speech called "metonymy" (When one name or noun is used in place of another, to which it stands in a certain relation). Put for Him who brings deliverence from all the works of the old serpant (E.W. Bullinger, The Companion Bible).' Simeon is saying (my paraphrase) For my eyes have seen the Messiah, the destroyer of the works of the devil, God made flesh, the Word made flesh, He who is the One by which all was created, He who by which if we shall only believe we can be remade into begottens of God. The Cross is the method by which God used to make all His promises yes and amen in Christ Jesus. It is the cross that God has used to set us free. The cross - the place of death, where He died for us once for all. The cross - where I lay my "self" down to die with Him so I may be raised with Him in newness of life, shouting HALLELUJAH. GREAT IS THE NAME OF THE LORD. Asis |

3 | What is the "sign to be opposed?" | Luke 2:34 | Asis | 106867
mommapbs The "sign to be opposed" is Jesus on the cross. Jesus hanging from a tree pierced in His side blood running down. The Jews were waiting for a redeemer who would rid them of their conquerors. They wanted a Judge as of old who would set them free from their opressors forever. The picture of their Messiah hanging from a tree would prove to be a stumbling block to them. So it is today. At this time of year it is all right and quite acceptable to talk about the birth of Jesus. The little Lord Jesus in an manger, Mary and Josef oogling their new born. The shepherds looking in awe as the animals speak and the 3 Kings from orient come to bring gifts to the new born King. We can even put this on TV without much objection. BUT do not talk about Jesus' death on the cross. Don't mention that He is the only way to the Father. Keep your mouth shut about salvation is only gained through Him. Talk that way and you will soon find that this "sign" is still the stumbling block it was 2003 years ago. Yes, this does indeed point to the sign of Jonah. Praise God for the Salvation of the Lord. 4 | Still no place for Jesus. | Luke 2:7 | Asis | 106208
Augusto It is true that the inn keeper had no place for Joseph and Mary in the inn. However He did not turn them away. He could have said, "No place here for the likes of you," and turned them out into the street. No, he gave them a place out of the weather. A place warm and comfortable. There was even a cradle for the child to lie in. Yes, it was humble beginings for the Son of God, but it was enough. Do we have a place in our heart for Him. He doesn't care if it is the best room in the house, only that it is a place in our heart. Asis |

5 | in the world,not of the world? | John 15:19 | Asis | 105026
Greetings sedec. Welcome to the forum. It is my hope that your experience here will be fruitful as you seek a deeper relationship with Christ. John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. [KJV] John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. [KJV] John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. [KJV] These are the verses I think you are looking for. Asis |

6 | Is civil disobedience OK when... | Prov 3:13 | Asis | 104861
When man's law contradicts God's commandments and laws we have an obligation to stand up for Him. All authority comes from God but God's authority is above all other. If the two come into conflict our choice is clear. It is however our reaction to the authorities after we disobey man's law that is the difference between those who are disciples and those who are not. If a law was passed prohibiting the making of disciples of Jesus. We would have to disobey that law. We have a command from a higher authority which must be followed. However when caught we would not fight but proclaim the higher authority and take the consequences whatever they may be.
7 | From Whence Come Kosher Dietary Laws? | Lev 11:1 | Asis | 104640
The dietary lawes are laid out for the Jewish people in Leviticus, particularly chapter 11. The meaningof the word "kosher" is as follows: Title: Wiersbe’s Expository Outlines on the Old Testament Author: Wiersbe, Warren W. (“Kosher” comes from a Hebrew word meaning “right, fit.” People in a kosher Jewish home ate only those foods that God said were right and fit.) I hope that answers you question. Asis |

8 | Asis, Where are we told don't follow OT? | Hebrews | Asis | 102193
The post referenced was in reply to why don't present day believers follow the feasts of the the Jews. Take the answer in context please. These are just a few of the commands given to the children of Israel By God Almighty. Numbers 9:2 Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season. [KJV] Numbers 29:12 And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days: [KJV] Deut. 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. [KJV] Deut. 4:6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. [KJV] Deut. 5:1 And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them. [KJV] Deut. 7:8-9 But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. [9] Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; [KJV] Deut. 7:11-12 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. [12] Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers: [KJV] Deut. 16:1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the Lord thy God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night. [KJV] Deut. 16:10 And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the Lord thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the Lord thy God, according as the Lord thy God hath blessed thee: [KJV] Deut. 16:15 Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose: because the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice. [KJV] Deut. 17:19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: [KJV] They are a part of the Law, the Old Testament. To observe the feasts of the OLD TESTAMENT is for the Jew, Not the NEW TESTAMENT believer. If this were not so then ALL beleivers of Jesus must be circumcised and follow the Law as stated in the Old Testament. Messianic Jews are still called to celebrate the feasts of the Old Testament. They are Jews. Was Paul wrong to write letters to the churches warning against the judeizers? Are you a judeizer? God won't stop you from observing all the Jewish Holidays but you don't have to to be saved. |

Speaking as a Messianic Jew I do believe Christians who were gentiles are misssing a certain perspective. Paul says in Romans 2:29 that is is not the physical circumcision that makes one a Jew but a circumcision of the heart that makes one a Jew. We must remember that the Bible was written by Jews and comes from that perspective. The first church was a Jewish church. It is hard to put into words but there is a Jewishness to Christianity that is missing. I know this will raise more questions than it answers but I hopethis helps Asis |

11 | Resource for "hate"? | Luke 14:26 | Asis | 101445
Seeking4truth I am sometimes completely mystified by the words some translators have chose for a Greek or Hebrew word. As I have seached for the most accurate dictionary of Greek and Hebrew words of the Bible, I find that the WordStudy Bible, edited by Spiros Zodhiates, helps me the most. What is difficult for us who do not read Biblical Greek is that we only have the translators words to go by. This can be a frustrating experience. i think you will find the above book helpful. Asis |

12 | Spirit or spirit? John 6:63 | Prov 5:21 | Asis | 100988
Ray John 6:63 must be taken in context with John 6:52-62. But first let us look at the the other verses on your post. Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. [KJV] I used to think that this verse meant that anything that I did I was supposed to say, “it wasn’t me it was God. He did it not me.” Then God revealed that it was my life that was to acknowledge Him. “All my ways” was my life. When all I do reveals God by my life that all my goings and doings would be directed by Him. When that is the case willo any of my goings and doings fail? Proverbs 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings. [KJV] Proverbs 15:3-9 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. [4] A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. [5] A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. [6] In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble. [7] The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so. [8] The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. [9] The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness. [KJV] I think these two go together. God and His word are one. Therfore what is said about one is also talking about the other. Heb. 4:12 through Heb. 4:13 (NASB) 12For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. GOD KNOWS ALL. We can hide nothing from Him. In fact it is a little absurd that we would think that we can keep God from knowing something we think or have done. We cannot keep the condition of our heart from God. He knows our spirit (character). Out of the abundance of our heart the mouth speaks. That is how we know anothers heart. Eccles. 9:1 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them. [KJV] God is in everything. There is nothing that is done that He is not in. I didn’t say causes, I said in. Until man knows God he really doesn’t know anything. All that comes from man is temporal. That which is temporal with fade away and is hence not real. What we know from God and of God is eternal and will never fade away. That is what is real. If we don’t know this we know nothing. The real is the spiritual. Jesus says that until we are able to unite with him (eat his flesh and drink his blood; a hebrew figure of speech) we will not understand. The Spirit of God gives life. What I say cannot be understood by the mental, by the worldly. Your character will not profit you until you are united with me and your spirit is given life. Then you will understand spiritual things. God makes the wise things of the world foolishness. His stuff is much better than our stuff. Get out of God’s way your mind and will is keeping Him from completing, perfecting His work in you. I hope this finds you well Asis |

13 | What is meant by under the earth? | Phil 2:10 | Asis | 99418
These are the three relms of existance. Heavenly, earthly, subterraniam. The Greek word used for "under the earth" is "katachthonios" which translates subterranian. There are beings, things (by the way the word thing is italicized in my NASB bible which means it is included by the translators to make the translation smooth and is not in the manuscript) in the underworld. They bow at the name of Jesus. Think about the demons at Gergesenes. they knew Jesus and obeyed His command. My personal understanding of this verse is that it is for NOW. I know in my experience that The name of Jesus has the power to make people bow NOW. I have a hat that bears the name of Jesus Christ on it. I was wearing it when I went into a restraunt for lunch a man entered and read my hat and as he waited to be seated would not look at me except in glances as if the name would change on my hat. He by his behavior was bowing at the name of Jesus. He was acknowledging the Lordship and Authority of the King by his behavior. When the name of Jesus is used "things" wherever they may be must, should bow. Asis |

14 | What's Hebrew for soulWhere in Scripture | Gen 2:7 | Asis | 97735
Nathaniel The Hebrew word for "soul" is NEPHESH. It means a breathing creature. Genesis 1:19-25 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. [20] And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. [21] And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. [22] And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. [23] And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. [24] And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. [25] And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. [KJV] The word creature in verse 21 is the Hebrew word NEPHESH. Therefore the animals are a living soul. The diference between them and us is that God did not breathe on them and give them a spirit (Gen 2:7). The soul is the mind will and emotions. Animals have these. But it is the spirit which comes from God (not the Holy Spirit) which separates us from the animals. I hope this has helped Asis |

15 | Circumcised of the heart? | Gen 17:10 | Asis | 97730
shpagach, welcome to the Forum. We greet you in the name of Christ, the Messiah. To understand circumcision of the heart one must look at Genesis 17. This is the account of Abram, which means HIGH FATHER, and the covenant that God made with him. God asks Abram to "walk before Him and be perfect. Alfred Barnes in his commentary of the Old Testament says: For, first, he has now faith in the Lord, which is the fruit of the new man in him prevailing over the old, and is therefore competent to obey; and, next, the Lord in whom he believes is God Almighty, the all-efficient Spirit, who worketh both to will and to do in the destroying of sin and building up of holiness. “Walk”—act in the most comprehensive sense of the term; “before me,” and not behind, as one conscious of doing what is, not displeasing, but pleasing to me; “and be perfect,” not sincere merely, unless in the primitive sense of duty, but complete, upright, holy, not only in walk, which is provided for in the previous clause, but in heart, the spring of action. Me again. Abram agrees and God makes a covenant with him. He tells him he will be the father of many nations. Abram is 99 years old and has no children. He believes what God has said "The Promise" and God changes his name to Abraham, which means FATHER OF A MULTITUDE. Every time someone addressed Abraham they were calling out the promise of God to him (verses 1-8). Abraham's part of the covenant was to be circumcised. This is the cutting off of the foreskin of the male. Covenants are agreements between two parties that ensure a relationship. They are sealed with blood. If either party of a covenant breaks the covenant the other has the right to take their life. God made a covenant by Himself to Abraham. Abraham was to seal his covenant with God ( to walk before Him and be perfect) by circumcision. This confirmation of the covenant was for all generations (more promise, verses 9-27). Now all that being said. Paul says in Romans 2:17-29 that it is not the fact that one has the physical sign (circumcision) of partaking of the Abrahamic covenant. It is a heart thing. It is not the fact that you are missing some skin that makes you someone who walks before God. It is the condition of your heart. You see at the time of Christ and even now the Jews think that they are something and the righteousness of God just because they are Jews. God says that you do not get into heaven just because of who you are. It is because of what you are. It is because you have believed God, that He sent His Son to die for you on the Cross and rasied Him from the dead, that YOU have circumcised your heart and entered into covenant with God. You have become a Jew (Rom 2:29). God is not interested in outward signs. He is not impressed by how loud you sing or shout Hallelujah or quote scripture. He is concened about your heart condition. Have you given your heart to Him. Have you surrended your life to Him. Is He your all in all? If your answer is YES then your heart has been crcumcised. I hope this has answered your question? If not ask another. Shalom Asis |

16 | filled and upon mean the same thing | Ex 35:31 | Asis | 97556
dse Consider the following verse: Exodus 35:31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; [KJV] In the Old Testament the spirit of God would fill, come upon, people for a specific task. Like in the above verse. When the task was done He left that person. 1 Samuel 11:6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. [KJV] 1 Samuel 16:13-16 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. [14] But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. [15] And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. [16] Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. [KJV] In the New Testament the Holy Spirit of God comes to dwell in the body of the believer. 1 Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? [KJV] The Spirit of God comes and takes up residence in us. Ain't that cool? Asis |

18 | The Holy Spirit was guiding them? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 96727
As a true worshipper, disciple, we do nothing of ourselves, rather our entire lives are guided by our Lord. What was necessary in Jerusalem after Penetecost was not necessary in Antioch. A diferent time and different circumstances. But the same God leading His people. When Paul said,Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. [KJV] He is telling us that Jesus guided His life 24/7. It is not Paul who lives. It is Christ in Him who lives. The life Paul lives is by leaning on trusting in COMPLETELY, ENTIRELY in Christ. This is the position we, the disciples now and then, ascribe to. Being instruments of righteousness played by the master musician Jesus. Is that clearer? Asis |

19 | Is that where the houses are? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 96723
It is OK as lonG as you see it for what it is . . . fiction, an opinion AND NOT THE WORD OF GOD. I think you need to reread what CDBJ wrote in response to your inquiry. Do not look at scripture out of context. Jesus is talking about those who have money and will not separate themselves from it. Mark 10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! [KJV] They were astonished at what He had just said and . . . Mark 10:24-25 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! [25] It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. [KJV] He is taking about the love of money. And of course anything we love above God is an idol. God is a jealous God and does not like it when His children love something more than Him. Mark 10:26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? [KJV] They did not understand His sayings (since it is the desire of man to be rich, we think it is the end of all our troubles). Mark 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. [KJV] Man cannot remove himself from the love of money, masn cannot save himself. But God can do anything Here is where we get to it. Peter says what about us? We gave it all up to follow you. I had a great fishing business, John and James also, Matthew was a Tax Collector and we all know they have lots of money. Every one of us walked away from good jobs and houses and family. (All my additions not found in scripture). Mark 10:29-31 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, [30] But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. [31] But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. [KJV] I'm gonna tell you God does supply all my needs. He has given me a new family and yes mi casa es su casa. When I have been in need my brothers and sisters in the Lord have responded and I have not gone in want. Our attitude though must be answered by the question, "How poor are you willing to be for Jesus?" The answer is a heart condition. Seek first His Kingdom and righteousness and all this will be provided. That is a reality in the life of the believer not a promise to come. Does that make it clearer? Or are you after some lands and houses and money instead of our Lord. IN THE LOVE OUR LORD Asis |

20 | What did the disciples understand? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 96719
PART 2 What were the problems facing the twelve? First of all they were obviously in the wrong town. These men were all Galileans; Galilee is the land of country people. But look at them now! Here they are in the great, sophisticated capital city of Jerusalem. They do not belong here. They had come here for no reason except to hold a prayer meeting. They only arrived eleven days ago! They had no thought of staying. Why be here at all? Why don't they go home ... now? They will stay! They will stay because eleven days ago the Lord told them to stay! And He had a very deliberate reason in selecting Jerusalem. But His command had put them in a mess. Here they are, in Jerusalem, with no money, no jobs, and no place to live. There is no Galilean Sea in Jerusalem for these unemployed fishermen to cast their nets into. Furthermore, this city, of all cities, is not friendly to them. Less than two months ago the local government here sentenced their Lord to death. To say the least, they are not liked. They have a second problem. Where will they sleep? Where will they eat? How will they make a living? Most of the 120 had probably been "camping out" in the upper room for the last eleven days. (It is even probable that "living with all things in common" was born right there in the upper room.) How could they begin a new work of God on this earth when they were flat broke and in such a ridiculous predicament? These were the problems of the twelve. They were serious problems all right, but nothing compared to the problems faced by the rest of the 120. Let's look at their problems! The 120 are also Galileans. They, too, had been following the Lord around for over three years. They, too, own nothing. (They had obeyed the Lord's injunction to drop all and follow Him!) Their homes and jobs, if in fact they still have any, are in Galilee. Certainly they have nothing in Jerusalem. Nor do they know anyone in Jerusalem. The 120 are unemployed, broke, and in a hostile city. So, together, the 120 and the twelve have some very serious problems. But the Apostles and the 120 have no problems at all compared to the 3,000. They have problems! You see, most of those 3,000 people should be packing their bags right now. They should be getting ready to head back home ... in caravans and on ships! Most of these 3,000 people do not live in Jerusalem or in Galilee. Nor is Judea their home. The vast majority of the 3,000 live hundreds and hundreds of miles away. They have mountains to climb, deserts to trudge, rivers to forge and seas to cross to get home. Certainly the 3,000 have nothing in Jerusalem! There is absolutely no reason for them to stay here. These 3,000 converts had come to Jerusalem just a few weeks ago as pilgrims-tourists-with the idea of staying for a very short time. For many of them the pilgrimage to Jerusalem was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Like most tourists they had brought just enough money to get them through the festival. As a result, today they have very little left in their pockets; they certainly have no jobs; they have no homes; most do not even have a place to sleep tonight; they have very little clothing; at best they have enough food to last for a few days. Simply put, the 3,000 are foreigners, they are a long way from home, they are broke, jobless, and homeless! Now that is a problem! So you begin to get an idea of the titanic mess the Apostles faced. But this is by no means the end of the list. Look at this! Here is a church with 3,120 believers and it has no -place to hold meetings! Where can you possibly get 3,000 people together in one place in a city of I 00,000 people all of whom live in one square mile? Now you can clearly see what the twelve Apostles were up against. Monday morning had all the makings of a disaster. Obviously there was only one solution to this whole problem: send everyone home and forget the whole thing. A problem this big just has no other solution. The Apostles could very easily have done this. They could have sent the 120 back to Galilee; they could have told the 3,000 to go on home as planned. That would have been reasonable. But Monday is just not going to be a day to be reasonable. Monday will be a day to be new!! Things never done before in history will be done Monday. From the book REVOLUTION by Gene Edwards Copyright by Gene Edwards MCMLXXIV ****The preceeding parts 1 aqnd 2 are BIBLICAL FICTION. However, it does make sense. It is not recorded in scripture and just and opinion and SHOULD NOT be taken as the absolute facts. Aixen7z4 I ask you, "why did the believers in Jerusalem share but the believers in the new church at Antioch not". At least there is no mention of the same kind of activity as at Jerusalem. Just something to think about. As my friend Ken would say "Interesting. . . Very interesting." Asis |
