MzVicki, Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum! I have found this to be most excellent in searching out answers as it relates to the truth of God's inspired, infallible Word. You will always find good Christians here that are ready to engage in discourse concerning the Bible and how it pertains to daily living. However, we will only engage in truthful teaching. We are instructed in 2Timothy 2:15 : Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Now, I have to leave for work now, but will open this for discussion, after saying that Arthur Murrey is a heretic, that does not teach the truth. (Sorry for being blunt) Please go to CARM Christian apologetics and research ministry for problems associated with his teaching, such as 'serpent seed' doctrine. Now, as to the Roman Catholic Church, Please go to Proclaiming the Gospel ministries and see what Mike Gendron has to offer. That is a good historical account of the RCC that you have offered for perusal, and I thank you for that. But we look to the inerrant, infallible, and inspired Word of God for all answers pertaining to life and salvation. I apologize for cutting this short, but I will return this pm to further bolster my argument in truth. May our Lord bless you richly as you seek Him. |

4 | Is the Bible the word of man or God? | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 221854
Hi jgingrich, Your short and long versions of your question could be two different questions. I will start out by trying to answer the short one. There are many proofs at many different levels that lead us to understand (believe) that the Bible was written by the inspiration of God. These proofs are both internal and external. The first internal proof is, is the Bible tells us so. And God cannot tell a lie. But more important are the facts: The Bible is approx 1/3 made up of prophecies, and approx 80 percent of those prophesies have come true, to the letter. That means 100 percent accuracy to date, since other remaining prophecies are still to be fulfilled. The Bible contains 66 Books, written by 40 or more authors from various walks of life, many who never even heard of each other, and also was written over a span of some 1600 years or more. -And all this without a SINGLE CONTRADICTION. (if you think there may be contradictions, it is most likely due to misunderstanding. Bring the verses to this forum and someone will be able to help you correct the problem.) Now, do you think that we could find any two authors to write, even a lengthy newspaper article in seperate rooms, about any subject, without any contradictions? How you answer this question will say much about how you make decisions in life and will also have an eternal impact. For if anyone decides to dismiss the Bible as the Word of God, then they may as well dismiss God. Because of its claim to be the very Word of God, the Bible has suffered countless attacks and attempts to destroy it than any other book in history. -From early Roman Emperors through communist dictators and on to modern-day atheists, the Bible has withstood the test of time while outlasting all of its attackers and is still today the most widely published book in the world. So, as you probably know, God is an eternal being. This means he is not confined within the constraints of time, as we are. Just ask yourself, if there was a supreme being, that created a world filled with creatures, and wanted to let these creature know how much He loves them, and give them proof of all of this, and do it across the barrier of time, then how could this be accomplished? I would say that prophecy is a pretty strong bet, wouldn't you? One example of this is when God gave the prophecy of the 70 weeks to Daniel, He gave it through an angel. This has proven to be so accurate that some have accused it of being written at a later date and then disguised as an older manuscript. But the truth is, that this prophecy was translated into Greek about 200 years prior to its fulfillment, proving that it was not written after the fact. Take Jesus' empty tomb for instance. Some have said that this was all an elaborate hoax by His disciples, who stole His body from the tomb while the guards were asleep. But do you think it is feasible that someone would actually give their life in a painful death to protect the hoax's discovery? This is what happened to all the Apostles, all except John, who died a natural death. |

5 | God is one plesse explain Mark 16:19 | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 221895
So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. (Mk 16:19) He sat at the right hand. To say He sat means that He was at rest, that His work was completed. This was a posture of authority, as He was sitting down when He began to speak at the sermon on the mount. To sit on the 'right hand' explains soveriegn rule, -it does not mean that God has a right hand. -does the Bible ever mention the left hand of God? Going by that logic, the Bible must mean that God is monodextrous. But it never says that God created the heavens and the earth 'single-handedly' ((o: son |

Hi colton, please allow me to apologize for your difficulty in getting your question answered. It is my belief that your question has its own trouble built into it, for the darkness comprehendeth not the light. (Jn 1:5) I think these verses may help you in your growing relationship with the Lord, by understanding who the enemy is, and that there is warfare out there. Read Isaiah 14:12, and then in context of 14:3 thru 14:22 Then read Ezekiel 28, and notice how the chapter changes its mood abruptly at verse 12, since it stops speaking to the Prince of Tyre and turns its attention to the King of Tyre thru verse 19. This king is widely considered to be none other than satan himself. Being full of wisdom and perfect in beauty... perfect in thy ways until iniquity was found in thee... And the chapter wraps up in vss. 25 and 26 when the Lord shall execute His judgement and bring His people into safety and security in their own land. keliy |

The major reason why people doubt that the days of creation are 24-hour literal days usually has nothing to do with what the Bible says, but comes from outside influences. For example, many believe that since scientists have convinced everyone that the earth is countless years old, then the days of creation cannot be ordinary days. Then they attempt to use Scripture to try to justify that the days of creation are long periods of time and quote passages such as 2 Peter 3:8, '... 'one day is with the Lord as a thousand years' However, if you look at the rest of the verse, it says, '... and a thousand years as one day'. which makes theirs a moot point. They are further proven wrong in their assumptions by looking into the complexities of the Hebrew landuage: The Hebrew word for day in Genesis chapter 1 is the word 'yom'. It is important to understand that almost any word can have two or more meanings, depending on context. And, respected Hebrew dictionaries give a number of meanings for the word 'yom' depending upon context. One of the passages they give for the meaning of 'yom' as an ordinary day is Genesis chapter 1. And the reason becomes quite obvious. Every time the word 'yom' is used with a number, or with the phrase 'evening and morning', anywhere in the Old Testament, it always means an ordinary day. In Genesis chapter 1, for each of the six days of creation, the Hebrew word 'yom' is used with a number and with the phrase, 'evening and morning'. There is no doubt that the Hebrew author (as being led by the Spirit) is placing an emphasis on saying that these are ordinary days. |

9 | What form will we take in heaven? | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 222038
Hello, His Student, May the following verses edify you. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. I John 3:2 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took [it], and did eat before them. Luke 24:41-43 Jesus saith unto them, Come [and] dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. John 21:12-13 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Rom. 8:18 [There is] one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for [one] star differeth from [another] star in glory. So also [is] the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening spirit. Howbeit that [was] not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man [is] of the earth, earthy: the second man [is] the Lord from heaven. As [is] the earthy, such [are] they also that are earthy: and as [is] the heavenly, such [are] they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. I Cor. 15:41, 49 For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Cor 5:1 |

N S, Sorry for the late response, I just want to follow up and see if you are having any luck. I am sorry that you are feeling as Jonah trapped in the whale. Is it possible that you are trying to do this work by your own power instead of relying on the totally sufficient power of Christ? Read the Book of Jonah, and focus on how Jonah was freed. I will pray also that your wife comes to know Jesus as her personal savior. As for defending the Word, there is not much you can do beyond the Word itself. God's Word is sharper than any two edged sword and there is nothing able to perform as well as His Word. Just remain in the Word and you will know thr truth. And the truth will make you free. |

13 | In Bible the term Jew first used? | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 234056
the word, JEW is used first in the Book of Esther, (8 times) but I am not sure if that would be first in the chronological order. In 2 Kings, the word, 'Jews' is used twice, still being listed as the Strong's # H3064 and refers to someone who belonged to the kingdom of Judah. Later, after the removal of the ten tribes, the word Jew came to refer to any Israelite. |

on the other hand, the Word, 'Judaism' refers to the religion and philosphy espoused by the Jewish people, but can actually get quite complex. For some, it would mean the expression of the covenantal relationship God established with the Children of Israel. For more modern times, liberal movements such as Humanistic Judaism may actually be nontheistic. |

17 | Did Barabbas have a first (given) name? | NT general | sonofmom | 222394
In early history, there was not the idea of last names as we know today. Barabbas was the name given to this person, but it is easily broken down. Bar means simply, son, or son of. See Mark 10:46 where it says, "And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging." Jesus also mentions, 'Simon Barjona' in Mat 16:17 So, since abba means father, (Strongs #G5), Barabbas would mean Son of Father. It is quite indicative of the wickedness in the hearts of the crowd when they were given the choice to either release Jesus, who committed no crime, or to release Barabbas, "And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas" Meaning, release to us son of father, who was a worldly substitute in lieu of releasing the real Son of the real Father |

18 | Act 8 1 to 5, Apostle(s) | NT general | sonofmom | 225327
Hi homeflash, welcome to you. Let us start at the end of your question, because it is tough to answer too many questions at once. If you were to know the difference, that may help clear up a few other questions. "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." ( Act 11:26) Disciple is from the English word for discipline, but translated from the Greek word, Mathetes, which means: a learner, a pupil, or disciple. We can all be Disciples by choice, but we are unable to become apostles by our own will. The word Apostle first appears in the first verse of Romans, in the words of Paul, " a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle..." The first and second letters to the Corinthians, along with Galatians, Ephesians, Colossians and others start out in like manner. Paul introduces himself as an Apostle, which is a transliteration of the Greek word, Apostolos, and this means, 'a delegate, messenger, as one sent forth with orders, and is specifically applied to the twelve Apostles of Christ, but in a broader sense is applied to some of the foremost Christian teachers. Can one be a deacon as well as an Apostle? Can one be both an Apostle and a Disciple? I think these questions could be answered Yes, and your question seems to necessarily eliminate one from the other. Son |

19 | SEEKING FOR THE TRUTH | NT general | sonofmom | 242704
Absolutely There are different kinds of gifts but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. (1 Cor. 12:4-5) Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (1 Pet. 4:10) Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. (Romans 12:4-6a) |
