1 | What does Sold out mean to each one? | Bible general Archive 2 | prazn | 121674
"Sold out" means that I have made a commitment to Jesus to follow Him in all His ways. It means picking up my cross and denying my "self" so that the life of Christ may be manifest in this mortal body. It means dying to my "flesh" (i.e., sin nature) by denying my self the things that the world, the "flesh" and the devil offer or entice me with. Do I still stumble, at times? Yes. But, I'm no less "sold out". It is God's grace that empowers me to do what I cannot do in my own strength and by an act of my own will. Rom 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Rom 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, Rom 8:7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, Rom 8:8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Rom 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. Rom 8:10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Rom 8:12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- Rom 8:13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. peace! prazn |

2 | Does God "cause" or "allow"? | Bible general Archive 2 | prazn | 121899
There is evidence throughout the Old Testament that God both causes and allows evil to befall His people (for purposes of correction). Numerous times throughout the Old Testament, the Lord sent struck down those who disobeyed His commandments. Examples: when the Israelites grumbled about their provisions, or married pagan wives; when the ark of the covenant was not carried back to Jerusalem according to the Lord's specific instructions for doing so; when King David took a census and the Lord gave the king a choice regarding the punishment that he would be given, etc. Whether the Lord "causes" or "allows" evil to befall His people the purpose is undoubtedly the same...and that is to bring His sons and daughters to maturation in Him: Heb 12:5 "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; Heb 12:6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." Heb 12:7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? Heb 12:8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Heb 12:9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? Heb 12:10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. Heb 12:11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. With regard to your question about the angels. You undoubtedly know that Lucifer was an angel of the Lord who was kicked out of heaven along with his rebellious cohorts. I suppose that an argument could be made, based upon the enemy's exercise of his free will, that the Angels of God also have free will. Hope this answers your questions... peace! prazn |

4 | The Bible Definition of a soul is what? | Bible general Archive 1 | prazn | 85418
Lev 17:10-11 11'For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; NAS Before Christ, man made atonement for his sins by sacrificing animals. This verse uses the word "soul" rather than "sin". This could be because it is with our soul that we sin against God. We sin against God by being disobedient to His will for our lives. How do we disobey God? By following our own way, rather than His. That means that we make a "conscious" choice to disobey the Lord. To make a conscious choice we must have thought about our actions; experienced certain emotions about our actions; and decided to disobey. So, we can conclude that we reason with our soul; we feel emotions with our soul; and we decide with our soul. So, the soul is our intellect, emotions and will. Gen 35:16-20 16 Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe labor. 17 And it came about when she was in severe labor that the midwife said to her, "Do not fear, for now you have another son." 18 And it came about as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin. 19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). 20 And Jacob set up a pillar over her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day. NAS This verse indicates that the soul leaves the body at death. Luke 16:19-17:1 19 "Now there was a certain rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, gaily living in splendor every day. 20 "And a certain poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man's table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. 22 "Now it came about that the poor man died and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 "And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 "And he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame.' 25 "But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, in order that those who wish to come over from here to you may not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.' 27 "And he said, 'Then I beg you, Father, that you send him to my father's house-- 28 for I have five brothers-- that he may warn them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' 29 "But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.' 30 "But he said, 'No, Father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!' 31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.'" NAS Jesus told this parable to the pharisees during His time on earth. In it, He mentions only two realms; heaven and hell. There are no verses in the NASB (or any other commonly used Bible translation) that contain the words "purgatory", "hereafter" or "reincarnation". Nor are any references to these spiritual realms addressed within the Bible. Jesus was resurrected. |

5 | No, the dead are still DEAD...not alive! | Bible general Archive 1 | prazn | 85452
Not all churchgoers believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and, consequently, they have not been saved. Because these people either cannot, or refuse to, believe in our risen Lord or to receive Him as their personal Savior they will not have eternal life (i.e., go to heaven). Their hearts have been hardened to the Truth and are spiritually dead (see 1 Cor 2:14). "The promise" spoken of in the final verse of the scripture that you referenced is the promise of the resurrection of the dead in Christ at the sound of the last trumpet (1 Thess 4:16), when we who believe and have been saved shall be raised in our glorified bodies. Heb 11:40 because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect. NAS |

6 | how to start reading the bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | prazn | 87714
Hi Rouel, If this is your first attempt at studying the Bible, may I recommend that you buy a life application Bible. Life application Bibles include commentaries, on most verses within the Bible, that will help you to apply the truth of the word in your life. I pray that you won't study the Bible simply to collect a lot of facts. The Bible is a tool for us to use to learn who God is and how to live in a way that pleases Him. Most importantly, the Bible is one way God speaks directly to us; so, His word enables us to maintain relationship with Him. I would like to make recommendations that will help you in your study, but I don't know where you're "at" in your relationship with the Lord. Please let me know, when you get a chance! Thanks! prazn |

7 | Can someone explain sanctifacation | NT general Archive 1 | prazn | 86313
The following is what has been revealed to me through my study of the Scriptures, my experience, and the writings of other saints: Sanctification is a process in which we (believers) are freed from the POWER of sin. The Bible says, in 2 Thess 2:13: "But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth." According to Scripture there are three "tenses" of salvation. 2 Cor 1:9-10 says: ...trust in... God...who DELIVERED us from so great a peril of death, and WILL DELIVER us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He WILL YET DELIVER us..." That is to say, "I AM saved, I AM BEING saved, and I WILL BE saved." Sanctification is the "I AM BEING saved" part of the salvation process. When we are saved, we are saved from the PENALTY of sin and are positionally righteous in the sight of God. Romans 5:8-10 says, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:4: "...He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust." Hence, our salvation will not be completed (i.e., we will not be saved from the PRESENCE of sin) until we have been perfected and our bodies glorified, which won't happen until the Lord's return. Hope this wasn't too confusing. |

If the preacher did not provide a scriptural reference for his statement, it is impossible to interpret what he meant by that phrase. This is why it is so important to read the Word of God for yourself. The Lord Himself, through the Holy Spirit, will teach you as you study the Bible. If you don't understand a Scripture, ask the Holy Spirit and He will illumine your mind. It may not be an instaneous revelation, but the Lord will reveal the Truth of His Word to you, as you are able to receive it. God bless you. |

Please consider asking your Pastor, or other Christian leader, about participating in a Bible study at your local church. If this is not possible. There are numerous Bible studies that you can purchase that will help you to dig into the Word of God. Ask someone at your local Christian bookstore to recommend a good Bible study workbook that will help you to study the book of Genesis, on your own. Or, if you don't have a Christian bookstore in your town, check out these sites for good Bible studies: Navpress.com, backtothebible.org, or rbc.org (many of their Bible studies are free), to mention a few. May I recommend two excellent Bible studies which focus on the patriarchs of the faith, mentioned in Genesis. One workbook is entitled, Following God: Life Principles from the Old Testament. The workbook is authored by Wayne Barber. If you can't find it at your local Christian bookstore, you may want to consider ordering it online at www.ChristianBooks.com. Another excellent Bible study workbook is entitled, Created to be God's Friend. It is written by Henry T. Blackaby. This workbook focuses on Abraham and helps you to understand how God works in the lives of His people. Both workbooks may help to get you started in learning how to study and apply God's word to your life. Hope this helps... God bless you. |

11 | From where did God has come? | Gen 1:1 | prazn | 86300
"In the beginning GOD..." God is the pre-existent One. The eternal One. He had no beginning and He has no end. He proclaims that He is the great "I AM"; not the "I was" or the "I will be", but "I AM". He has always existed. He exists. And He will always exist. The good news is that we flawed human beings can always exist with Him, when we believe that Jesus Christ died on a 2000 years ago to save mankind from the wrath of Almighty God. Jesus took the punishment that you and I deserved. He remained in the grave for three days and rose again on the third day. He lives! And He reigns in heaven and will return for those who have confessed that He (Jesus) is Lord. Do you believe in Jesus, my friend? He died for you and me, because He loves us. "For God so loved the WORLD that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever should believe in Him, would not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16. If you believe that Jesus died to save you from the wrath of God, and you haven't already done so, I beg you to ask Him to save you, so that you will live forever in heaven with Him and everyone else who believes in Him. Simply say, "Dear Heavenly Father, I am a sinner. I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and that He rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart. I want you to be my Lord and my Savior. Amen." If you prayed this prayer, won't you please post a note in this forum, so that all of us (your brothers and sisters in the Lord) can rejoice? God bless you! |

12 | fact or literary device? | Gen 18:21 | prazn | 88076
Almighty God is all-knowing. When you're reading a verse, it is important to note the context of that verse. The Lord was not speaking to Himself, in verse 21; Abraham was present. What the Lord revealed, in Abraham's hearing, enabled God to test Abraham's heart. As a result, Abraham interceded for the city. God will not override the will of man, except someone intercede for them. Intercession, or prayer, releases God's will into the earth. Ezek 22:30 "I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. Ezek 22:31 "Thus I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; their way I have brought upon their heads," declares the Lord GOD. The destruction that the Lord speaks of in these verses is His judgement on the people of Judah, who were sent into captivity for their disobedience to God. Hope this helps. prazn |

13 | Must Christians keep the Sabbath today? | Ex 20:8 | prazn | 86045
JESUS is our Sabbath: Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. Heb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. Heb 4:4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS"; Heb 4:5 and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST." Heb 4:6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, Heb 4:7 He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. Heb 4:9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. Heb 4:10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Heb 4:11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. Jesus says, Matt 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST. Matt 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. Matt 11:30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." |

14 | Command Saul broke in 1Samuel 13;13-14? | 1 Sam 13:9 | prazn | 87091
Saul disobeyed the Lord by offering a burnt sacrifice that only the priests were consecrated to offer to the Lord, according to levitical law: Lev 1:1 Then the LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, Lev 1:2 "Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When any man of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of animals from the herd or the flock. Lev 1:3 'If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer it, a male without defect; he shall offer it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD. Lev 1:4 'He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, that it may be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf. Lev 1:5 'He shall slay the young bull before the LORD; and Aaron's sons the priests shall offer up the blood and sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the doorway of the tent of meeting. Lev 1:6 'He shall then skin the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces. Lev 1:7 'The sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. Lev 1:8 'Then Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, the head and the suet over the wood which is on the fire that is on the altar. Lev 1:9 'Its entrails, however, and its legs he shall wash with water. And the priest shall offer up in smoke all of it on the altar for a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD. |

15 | God using evil spirits? | 1 Sam 16:14 | prazn | 86295
During this morning's devotion, I learned that spirits work in human agents as God directs or allows: 2 Chr 18:19 "The LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab king of Israel to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said this while another said that. 2 Chr 18:20 "Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD and said, 'I will entice him.' And the LORD said to him, 'How?' 2 Chr 18:21 "He said, 'I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' Then He said, 'You are to entice him and prevail also. Go and do so.' 2 Chr 18:22 "Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of these your prophets, for the LORD has proclaimed disaster against you." If the Lord can put a deceiving spirit into a man's mouth, why couldn't He likewise use evil spirits. And, just as the Father has all power, likewise the Son (who is one with the Father): Eph 1:20-23 "...He raised Him [Christ] from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Not only are the spirits subject to the authority of God the Father and God the Son, but to the followers of the Lord, as well. Luke 10:17-20 states, "The seventy returned with joy, saying, 'Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.' And He said to them, 'I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.'" However, it's not clear, from this passage, that our authority (in Jesus' name) extends beyond merely casting evil spirits out of a human host. Have a blessed day! |

16 | was jonathan faithful to GOD | 1 Sam 18:1 | prazn | 85801
Jonathan was faithful to David, not because of his love for God, but because of his love for David. (see 1 Samuel 18:1) However, Jonathan was acting according to the will of God, for the Lord had already chosen and anointed David to be king over Israel before the end of Saul's reign. (see 1 Samuel 16:13) God has a plan and purpose for every human being on this planet. Whether we are aware of His plans for our lives, or not. He is, afterall, our Sovereign Lord and Creator. Below are a couple of verses to support what I just wrote: "For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH." Romans 9:17 "for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure" Philippians 2:13 |

17 | Is a 14 day Passover proper? | 2 Chr 30:23 | prazn | 87862
It's difficult to answer your question without knowing the motivation behind it. Is it wrong to celebrate (i.e., worship) Almighty God and all that He has done for us, for more than 30 minutes during a church service? Or, is it wrong to worship Almighty God (our Lord Jesus Christ)for more than 10 minutes a day? I think not, especially considering that God Almighty has forgiven us our sins (passed over us), simply because we believe in the atoning power of the precious blood of Jesus (i.e, the sinless Lamb of God). We were created to worship the Lord. Oftentimes, we get so "stuck" in our religious rituals and traditions that we miss out on the movement of the Holy Spirit within us and a marvelous time of fellowship and intimacy with our Lord. Jesus tells us, in John 4:23, "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers." I pray this helps! prazn |

18 | How to praise God and why? | Ps 7:17 | prazn | 86298
We praise God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and of every living creature (that includes you and me), because of His goodness to us. Because of His mercy to us. Since, He is our Creator, He does not have to let any one of us live. In fact, the Bible (the Word of God) declares: Ps 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. Ps 14:2 The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. Ps 14:3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one." The fact that God allows man to remain on the earth is reason to praise Him. The fact that you and I are still breathing is reason to praise Him. How do we praise Him? By thanking Him for every single good thing in our life (e.g., our spouse, our child(ren), our friends, our job, our home, our car, our health, our strength, etc.). We thank Him for the beauty of this earth, which He created for the enjoyment of man. Finally, the ultimate way to praise the Lord is to give Him our lives, because He gave His life for all of us, when He died on a cross 2000 years ago. God bless you! |

19 | trust, openness, relationships | Ps 27:10 | prazn | 91306
By trusting in the only One who is worthy of your trust. The Lord has promised to never leave us or forsake us. The people in our lives cannot be relied upon to fulfill all of our needs. However, the Lord still commands us to love others. The only way to do that is to yield to His Spirit and to allow the spirit within you to mature you so that you are able to trust and to love people more; even the people who spitefully use you. prazn |

John 15:8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. John 15:9 "Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. John 15:10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. Stay blessed! |
