Hi, I am new to this forum, however I'd like to help on this question. Many people look to God in times of crisis and ask the unfocussed Question "Why". My point of view at this point; is that is exactly what Job is doing. He has gone over all the possible sins against God that he knows or believes could be the cause of the unfortunate position he is in. Now I believe Job is familiar with the pagans and their religious views that worship the created things like the sun, stars, moon and heavens. In doing so Job is trying to tell his friends of his righteousness before God. It is true that he is faithful before God. God acknowledged that he is "blameless and upright" before Him, Job 1:8 (NKJV) when He challenged Lucifer. In this chapter (31), I believe there is the reason God allowed Satan to afflict him. In doing so he will receive the conviction of his self righteousness in chapter 38 Which leads to Job's repentance in chapter 40. If you want to see more on the view God has for those who worship the heavens see, Deut. 4:19 When you look up at the heavens, you will see the sun and moon. And you will see huge numbers of stars. Don't let anyone tempt you to bow down to the sun, moon or stars. Don't worship things the LORD your God has provided for all of the nations on earth. see also: 2 kings 17:16, 2 Chronicles 33:3, Jeremiah 8:2, Ezekiel 8:16, Zephaniah 1:5, Acts 7:42. and finally; Acts 7:42 (NKJV) Then God turned and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets: Did you offer Me slaughtered animals and sacrifices during forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? If your question is focused specifically on "Why is the heart enticed by the Sun and the Moon?" I believe that God has placed in mankind, a natural desire to seek and find Him. When one starts using their own intelligence, understanding and selfish motives to find God, they look to the created thing to fill the whole in their heart. Paul makes it clear in his teachings, Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, and that is as far as they take it. I pray for the misguided. But who wants to submit? May God our Father In heaven keep you. manny |
