1 | How to draw near to God | Bible general Archive 3 | hobbs | 169556
Dear Littlebird, the fear that you are experiencing is a blessing in disguise. Jer 32:40 "I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me. There is not single one of us who are not disobediant. None of us love or desire Christ as much as He deserves to be loved. Thank God that we He does not base our salvation on our performance, but He bases it on what Jesus has done in our place. Praise God that you see yourself as you do. 1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. The trial that you are experiencing has come to make you strong. There are times of trial and times of refreshing. Though them all Christ has us in His strong hand and nothing will seperate us from Him. Stand on the promises of God. We may be unfaithful but He is faithful always. Continue to pray even though it seems to you that your prayers are not getting any higher than the ceiling of your room. Continue to read your Bible and trust the Holy Spirit to lead you to His truth. Confess your sin to God and thank Him for His Son and for what He has done for you. Grace and Peace, John |

Acts 17:11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. You asked "how do various denominations jusify through scripture their interpertation differences?" I believe that an answer to that question would fill an entire library! But I will say that some are further from the truth than others, and that even those who are the closest are far from perfect. Cults and their ilk, have no idea at all what the Bible is all about because they have not the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.) John |

3 | Is sacrifice requirement to christianity | Bible general Archive 3 | hobbs | 171565
Dear Jared, First of all, I must tell you that the only organization that has been tasked with preaching the gospel and for equipping the saints is the church! Matt 16:18 "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will pray for you and ask God to lead you to a church that teaches sound doctrine, where the gospel is proclaimed and Christ is lifted up. I did some looking into YWAM and found some information that was disturbing to me. The fact that Benny Hinn has preached his false doctrine to the youth of YWAM is beyond belief. Trust in Christ and realize that He will lead you and give you the strength to carry you throughout your life. God Bless you Brother |

5 | eph 1:4-5 what is predestination, chosen | Bible general Archive 3 | hobbs | 185242
Predestination - This word is properly used only with reference to God's plan or purpose of salvation. The Greek word rendered "predestinate" is found only in these six passages, Acts 4:28; Rom. 8:29, 30; 1 Cor. 2:7; Eph. 1:5, 11; and in all of them it has the same meaning. They teach that the eternal, sovereign, immutable, and unconditional decree or "determinate purpose" of God governs all events. This doctrine of predestination or election is beset with many difficulties. It belongs to the "secret things" of God. But if we take the revealed word of God as our guide, we must accept this doctrine with all its mysteriousness, and settle all our questionings in the humble, devout acknowledgment, "Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight." For the teaching of Scripture on this subject let the following passages be examined in addition to those referred to above; Gen. 21:12; Ex. 9:16; 33:19; Deut. 10:15; 32:8; Josh. 11:20; 1 Sam. 12:22; 2 Chr. 6:6; Ps. 33:12; 65:4; 78:68; 135:4; Isa. 41:1-10; Jer. 1:5; Mark 13:20; Luke 22:22; John 6:37; 15:16; 17:2, 6, 9; Acts 2:28; 3:18; 4:28; 13:48; 17:26; Rom. 9:11, 18, 21; 11:5; Eph. 3:11; 1 Thess. 1:4; 2 Thess. 2:13; 2 Tim. 1:9; Titus 1:2; 1 Pet. 1:2. (See DECREES OF GOD ¯T0001002; ELECTION.) Hodge has well remarked that, "rightly understood, this doctrine (1) exalts the majesty and absolute sovereignty of God, while it illustrates the riches of his free grace and his just displeasure with sin. (2.) It enforces upon us the essential truth that salvation is entirely of grace. That no one can either complain if passed over, or boast himself if saved. (3.) It brings the inquirer to absolute self-despair and the cordial embrace of the free offer of Christ. (4.) In the case of the believer who has the witness in himself, this doctrine at once deepens his humility and elevates his confidence to the full assurance of hope".... 6 | V chip for Christians? | NT general Archive 1 | hobbs | 168584
Hello justme, I agree that there is much to condemn in our culture. TV; Movies; music; literature; politics; Religion...virtually evrey aspect one could imagine is corrupt to one degree or another. Saint Augustine said " Love God, then do as you please." He firmly believed, that if one truly loved God, that such a person would be constrained by that love, and would strive against the temptations of the flesh from whatever quarter they came from. Should christians cancel HBO,etc.? I think that such a decision is up to each individual's own conscience. To go further than that would be to flirt with legalism. One caution: 1 Cor 8:9 But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. God Bless, John |

8 | what church do i go to? Help!! | NT general Archive 1 | hobbs | 185480
Dear maricjess, Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. and Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Rom 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren I shall remember you in my prayers to petition Our Heavenly Father on your behalf, asking Him to direct you to a church that will nurture and eguip you in the Gospel of Christ. 9 | Loving God with all your heart | Gen 1:1 | hobbs | 171347
Welcome to the club Nightjay! Not a single one of us can, in all honesty, say that we love God with all our heart. To love Him with all your heart would mean that sin was a thing of the past; that falling to temptation was never a problem. John Newton, who wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace", also wrote... I asked the Lord, that I might grow In faith, and love, and every grace; Might more of His salvation know, And seek more earnestly His face. I hoped that in some favoured hour At once He'd answer my request, And by His love's constraining power Subdue my sins, and give me rest. Instead of this, he made me feel The hidden evils of my heart; And let the angry powers of hell Assault my soul in every part. Yea more, with his own hand He seemed Intent to aggravate my woe; Crossed all the fair designs I schemed, Blasted my gourds, and laid me low. 'Lord, why is this?' I trembling cried, 'Wilt thou pursue Thy worm to death?' 'Tis in this way,' the Lord replied, 'I answer prayer for grace and faith. 'These inward trials I employ 'From self and pride to set thee free; 'And break thy schemes of earthly joy, 'That thou may'st seek thy all in me.' |

10 | Will worshiping the Lord change in Rev? | Deut 11:19 | hobbs | 175438
Dear Searcher, In answer to your Question, I offer the following verses. 1 Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; I dare to say that the Church is not yet wholly sanctified; neither does it comprehend God's Word perfectly. Nevertheless, each and every saint has the righteousness of Christ imputed to him/her. We will be to occupied with oferring Him praises to even think of ourselves and the flaws that caused our groaning in the world that has now been replaced. Hobbs |

13 | Where did evil come from? | Prov 16:4 | hobbs | 168609
Hi Daw, God did indeed create Adam and eve with the gift of a truly free will. But when they chose evil God not only stripped them personally of that gift, but all their decendants as well. All evil is merely the corruption of that which is good. For instance: God has provided us with food which not only sustains our lives, but also can be a delight to our senses. This "good" gift becomes "evil" when we partake of it glutenously. Why Lucifer chose to rebel against his Maker or where this desire came from, I don't think we know. The Bible was no written to satisfy our curiosity. It was written for our salvation. Isa 55:8,9 For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. John |

14 | ... | Is 43:10 | hobbs | 168611
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." The only people who will go to Hell are those whom have not been born again. No one of us is in a position to say otherwise about anyone. God the Holy Spirit is likened to the wind. We don't know where it comes from or where it is going. But we do know that it always serves God the Father's purpose, which is to awaken the dead to new life in God the Son. John 6:37 "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 8 John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. The Father calls, The Spirit Regenerates and the Son raises. One God 3 Persons John |

15 | Will everyone who asks be saved? | Joel 2:32 | hobbs | 182863
John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:45 "It is written in the prophets, 'AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. John 6:46 "Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. John 6:47 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. Those who seek the Lord do so because they been drawn by the Father. They do so for they have been taught and have learned. They are truly the Elect of God. Read John 6 in it's entirety; its meaning is unmistakeable. God Bless, Hobbs |

16 | Can know Jesus then lose salvation? | Matt 13:20 | hobbs | 173780
Bereaniam, I believe the following verses support the doctrine that true the elect of God will never totally fall away. Matt 13:20 "The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; Matt 13:21 yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. I myself, absented my self from the worship of God for a number of years. Praise God! He sought after me and returned me to the fold. I believe we perservere in our faith to the end, because He causes uw to persevere. That we are His workmanship; clay in the hands of the potter. John |

17 | John 11: Mary Magdalene or Martha's sis? | Matt 27:56 | hobbs | 169323
Magdalene - a surname derived from Magdala, the place of her nativity, given to one of the Marys of the Gospels to distinguish her from the other Marys (Matt. 27:56, 61; 28:1, etc.). A mistaken notion has prevailed that this Mary was a woman of bad character, that she was the woman who is emphatically called "a sinner" (Luke 7:36-50). (See MARY.) 18 | The power of faith | Mark 11:23 | hobbs | 168852
If a person did move a mountain by faith. would that be by his own will, or by God's will being accomplished by that person? I believe it would be by God's will. Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Later, John |

19 | how long does it take God to forgive u | Luke 15:20 | hobbs | 169955
Of course! Consider the thief on the cross. Rom 8:1,2 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. The Bible does not teach that unconfessed sin will disqualify one from salvation. God's elect have had all their sins (past, present and future) forgiven at Calvary. There is NOTHING we can do to add or subtract from His work on our behalf. If we look at the BIG picture, we see that our forgiveness from sin was accomplished long before we were born! Eph 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,... Grace and Peace, John |
