1 | Who is the Bride of Christ? | Bible general Archive 4 | flinkywood | 206277
The expression “Bride of Christ” is figurative and is found only once, in so many words, in the NT: For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. (2Co 11:2) As a Church we are a betrothed to Christ insofar as we have become “one flesh” in Christ: "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." (Eph 5:31) Which is cited from: Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Gen 2:24) If, as Paul states, we are betrothed to Christ, then in a sense we have been formed from Christ, the New Adam, as Eve was bride-formed from the rib of the First Adam. This is a function of the Cross, when Christ merged 2 men into one: …by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. (Eph 2:15-16). This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. (Eph 5:32) |

Humility, If you don't like strip clubs, don't go. If these "friends" really cared for you they'd "chill" with you. Here's permission from the Man himself: "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." 3 | Who are the "sons of God?" | OT general | flinkywood | 44708
The Sons of God are angels. These angels took "daughters of men" for themselves as they wished, without permission. Their offspring were the Nephilim, defined in Harpers Bible Dictionary as "The giant demigods borne by daughters of men to the "sons of God:" "These were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown." Renown isn't a compliment here; These angels had done evil in the sight of God, and their offspring were an abomination to God. Thus the abundant water to follow.
4 | Does our actions help save us | NT general Archive 1 | flinkywood | 114209
Nae-Nae, Jesus saves, of course, but we must be obedient to do good works in loving faith. Some verses: What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?.. Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. (James 2:14,17) NAS Jesus Christ, ...through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name's sake, (Rom 1:5) NAS ...commands us to love God and one another and to demonstrate our love with works in faithful obedience; otherwise that faith is useless (Jam 2:20) NAS. We are justified by faith through a confessed belief in Christ, a faith that is itself a gift received from God. ...God has allotted to each a measure of faith. (Rom 12:3) NAS and ...Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. (Mat 16:17) NAS By faith we enter God's covenant family as children of God; and, like children we have to be disciplined and raised by our Father. In this way we mature as Abraham, the father of our faith, matured. And in this way our justification, like Abraham's, is progressive and contingent on our contined loving obedience to our Father. "And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him." (Act 5:32) NAS Faith is as faith does. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. (Gal 5:6) NAS What saves us is a loving, active, obedient faith in Jesus Christ. Colin |

5 | looking for specific scriptures that tel | NT general Archive 1 | flinkywood | 115815
Hello, Classy, baby Christian. This is a great place to learn; however, some on this forum, though they quote the Bible, do not believe in Jesus Christ as the eternal, uncreated Son of God, and are very harmful to new believers. Jehova's Witnesses are a nasty case in point. The one with username Aniset is one of these. The Gospel of John is a great place to start to learn about Jesus. Colin |

7 | Origin of God? | Gen 1:1 | flinkywood | 116183
That is THE question. God was not created, He is eternal: "In the beginning God... "Beginning" means precisely that. He also made everything that is, "...created..." Not only time itself, but also space and matter, "...the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1.10) How can you come to know God? Find out about Jesus, His Son. In the Gospel of John, an amazing Bible book, really, John (one of Jesus' disciples) writes: "No one has seen God at any time; but the only begotten God," (eg. Jesus), "He has explained Him." (John 1:18) God gave us Jesus, His Son. Why did He do that? Look at the state of us. What in heaven or on earth possessed Him to send His most precious thing down to a hideous and murderous crew like us? When I was in a tight spot I started talking to God, something I'd never done in my life. Soon after, I met people who told me about Jesus. And here you are. You sound on the verge of something incredibly great. Colin |

10 | scripture, key words for tree of life | Gen 2:1 | flinkywood | 218626
Tree of life: Signifies everlasting life and communion with Christ. We were banned from this tree at the Fall in Eden. Christ restores our access to this tree. Literal references: Gen 2.1; 3.22; 3.24; 3.18; Pro 3:18; 11.30; 13.12; 15.14; Rev 2.7; 22.2, 14; 19. Also look at Psalm 1, which is a kind of gateway to the Psalms and speaks beautifully about your subject. Read it in the KJV. Also, why are you at wit’s end? Do you have a concordance? Have you heard of E-Sword? |

11 | Is Satan Jesus' brother? Gen 3:15 | Gen 3:15 | flinkywood | 114448
Tara1, Satan was created by God. Jesus was not. Satan is the author of death. Jesus is the author of life. If Satan were Jesus' brother, he'd be mine also and most of the people's on this forum. Don't ask me to defend your positon. The burden of proof is yours. Do you know the definition of heretic? It is "one who chooses." Your current choice is clear. Colin |

12 | So is the book of Romans 4 a contraditio | Gen 12:1 | flinkywood | 57501
Faith is an act, a work. In German, for ex., Ich Glaube, "I believe", literally means "I faith". First, we are saved by faith... Eph 2:8,9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Then we're perfected by works: James 2:22 "Seest thou how by faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?" Abraham trusted God to the extent that he was ready to sacrifice Isaac, ready to demonstrate his faith through an act that was pure Abraham and totally in his character: Mat 7:20 "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." Sin, like faith, is also an act; and like faith, it's an act of the heart: Mat 5:28 "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Rahab just acted on what was already in her heart. First it's faith, then works. He's after our character: Rom 5:3,4 :...but we glory also in afflictions, knowing that affliction works out patience, and patience works out proven character; and proven character, hope." So these are complementary, not contradictory. Works are obedient faith. Colin. |

13 | So when does justification come? | Gen 12:1 | flinkywood | 57537
Rom 10:8,9,10 "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Go out and spread the good news. Colin |

14 | Who was Zipporah father | Ex 2:21 | flinkywood | 111638
Mes, Zipporah was the daughter of Reuel, the priest of Midian, the land whence Moses had fled Pharoah's wrath. (Exodus 2:15-2:25). Reuel also had another name, Jethro (3:1); the former means "friend of God", the latter possibly "his excellency". (Source: NIV) Zipporah and her family were Ethiopian. She is also mentioned in Exodus 4:25; 18:2. Jethro is also mentioned in Exo 4:18 and in most of Chapter 8. Colin |

17 | where does the donkey speak? | Num 22:21 | flinkywood | 113583
Check this out: "And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab. And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way. But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again. And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times? And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee. And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face. And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:" (Num 22:21-32) Pin the tail on the Balaam. 18 | Meditation | Josh 1:8 | flinkywood | 116657
8788, "But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." (Psa 1:2) "Meditate" Brown-Driver-Briggs' Hebrew Definitions: 1) to moan, growl, utter, muse, mutter, meditate, devise, plot, speak 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to roar, growl, groan 1a2) to utter, speak 1a3) to meditate, devise, muse, imagine 1b) (Poal) to utter 1c) (Hiphil) to mutter "of a deep (cf. Arab. hjj, depressum esse), dull sound, as if vibrating between within and without, here signifies the quiet soliloquy (cf. Arab. hjs, mussitando secum loqui) of one who is searching and thinking." (Keil and Delitzsch Commentary on the OT.) Meditation can get noisy. Colin |

19 | army | Josh 5:14 | flinkywood | 107008
Buddhist, Good question. I'll attempt an answer. God doesn't need anyone or anything, that's why the scripture says: "Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine." (Job 41:11) The bible tells the story of God's relationship to His creation and His desire for all of us to become righteous in His sight and to live with Him eternally: "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." (2Pe 3:9) To this end He gave His son: "...so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3.16) Why should God care so deeply for a creation that seems hell-bent on misery and self-destruction? Because even though God has no need of anyone or anything, He nevertheless loves, indeed He is love, and it's from Him only that we have the capacity for love: "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love." (1Jo 4:7-8) And "We love, because He first loved us." (1Jo 4:19) It is from love that He created us, and it's only through His merciful love that we have any hope of salvation in this life. The amazing thing about God is that as disgusting as we are (any honest appraisal of the world must conclude this), He still laid down His own life for us (if you have children you might understand this better): "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:8) He needs no army, yet armies arise either from love of Him or from hate of Him. I am part of this Army by writing this to you, because God is an intensely personal God who has said: "'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.'" (Jer 29:11) This future and hope is "...'NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART' (and Old Testament refernce)--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation." (Rom 10:8-10) It's great that you've come here for answers. Welcome. A lot of good comes out of this forum. If you own a bible or can get your hands on one, open to the Gospel of John and start to read. Pray before, if you wish, and ask whether any of it is true. Colin. |
