1 | Is man the founder of religion? | Bible general Archive 4 | Wild Olive Shoot | 200705
Over the years, mankind has invented many religions. In the simplest of terms, man continues to create new religions at a breakneck pace. A simple definition of religion may be something akin to “a set of beliefs or practices adhered to by an individual or group”. Now, think about that and you can imagine how many manmade religions there are in the world, false religions. There is only one acceptable to God. One that is pure. One that is true. Jamess 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. “Is this - That is, this enters into it; or this is religion such as God approves. The apostle does not say that this is the whole of religion, or that there is nothing else essential to it; but his general design clearly is, to show that religion will lead to a holy life, and he mentions this as a specimen, or an instance of what it will lead us to do. The things which he specifies here are in fact two: (1) That pure religion will lead to a life of practical benevolence; and, (2) That it will keep us unspotted from the world. If these things are found, they show that there is true piety. If they are not, there is none.” – Albert Barnes See also 1Thessalonians 5:15-23 and Galatians 5:15-23 for some extra support. I’ve heard and read about groups that worshipped fire, wind and earth. Our own Holy Scripture tells of those who worship idols, these are all false religions. Being false and not true and unacceptable to God, where is it you imagine they began? Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. 2Corinthians 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. 2 | any verses show ethical business profit? | Bible general Archive 4 | Wild Olive Shoot | 200763
Dear heseeshisson, I’m not so sure that you will get an answer that will be satisfactory to you. What you’re asking as it seems to me, is for direction from God’s Word on how to conduct your business, specifically with pricing merchandise. I don’t know that His Word covers such a subject but He does inform us of principles and virtues that are indicative of His own, showing all who look upon our dealings, business, personal or otherwise, that we belong to Him. These should be utilized when establishing how to conduct your business as well as with whom to conduct it and what product or service you will be marketing. The whole of God’s counsel should be taken into consideration, so to pinpoint a specific verse would be difficult I think. With that in mind however, please consider the following to be some really sound advice: Proverbs 23:4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. “We must endeavor to live comfortably, and provide for our children and families, according as our rank and condition are, but we must not seek great things. Be not of those that will be rich, that desire it as their chief good and design it as their highest end. Covetous men think it is their wisdom, imagining that if they be rich to such a degree they shall be completely happy. Cease from that wisdom, for it is a mistake; a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. 1. Those that aim at great things fill their hands with business more than they can grasp, so that their life is both a perfect drudgery and a perpetual hurry; but be not thou such a fool; labour not to be rich. What thou hast, or doest, be master of it, and not a slave to it as those that rise up early, sit up late, and eat the bread of carefulness, and all to be rich. Moderate labour, that we may have to give, is our wisdom and duty. Immoderate labour, that we may have to hoard, is our sin and folly. 2. They fill their heads with projects more than they understand, so that their life is a constant toss of care and fear; but do not thou thus vex thyself: Cease from thy own wisdom; go on quietly in the way of thy business, not contriving new ways and setting thy wits to work to find out new inventions. Acquiesce in God's wisdom, and cease from thy own.” – Matthew Henry 1Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. Luke 12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. In the end my friend, conduct yourself, your business as a Christian is expected to. Stand in His grace, WOS |

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established. “The only way to have our thoughts established is to commit our works to the Lord. The great concerns of our souls must be committed to the grace of God, with a dependence upon and submission to the conduct of that grace (2Ti_1:12); all our outward concerns must be committed to the providence of God, and to the sovereign, wise, and gracious disposal of that providence. Roll thy works upon the Lord (so the word is); roll the burden of thy care from thyself upon God. Lay the matter before him by prayer. Make known thy works unto the Lord (so some read it), not only the works of thy hand, but the workings of thy heart; and then leave it with him, by faith and dependence upon him, submission and resignation to him. The will of the Lord be done. We may then be easy when we resolve that whatever pleases God shall please us.” - Matthew Henry Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. “If men devise their way, so as to make God's glory their end and his will their rule, they may expect that he will direct their steps by his Spirit and grace, so that they shall not miss their way nor come short of their end. But let men devise their worldly affairs ever so politely, and with ever so great a probability of success, yet God has the ordering of the event, and sometimes directs their steps to that which they least intended. The design of this is to teach us to say, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that (Jam_4:14, Jam_4:15), and to have our eye to God, not only in the great turns of our lives, but in every step we take. Lord, direct my way, 1Th_3:11.” - Matthew Henry Stand in His grace, WOS |

7 | Transplants, a matter of ethics? | Bible general Archive 4 | Wild Olive Shoot | 212241
Dear Justme, If you would, please repost your question. I think there are others who can provide some valuable information for you but I wanted to provide a link to an article I think you might find interesting. In doing so, I'm removing your question probably without providing an answer. http://www.christianliferesources.com/?library/view.php(amersand)articleid(equals)417 Remove the parentheses and what is in them and insert the actual symbol. Just my own two cents, trying to put myself in a similar situation, if receiving an organ or such would prolong my life, I would consider it. As well, if I could save a loved one by donating and organ, I would consider it. Biblically all I can seem to relate it to is the fact that whatever God determines to take place will take place. If prolonged life is what He wills, the organ transplants are a good thing. If prolonged or improved life is not what He desires, it just won't happen. Nothing happens outside of God's will. "In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will," - Ephesians 1:11 "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28 Stand in His grace, WOS |

Hi humility, I think the reference is to what you receive for walking with Christ. That no matter what you have forsaken for His name sake it will not compare to the spiritual peace, comfort and grace that He offers or the eternal life promised. The love of God far exceeds those things and is infinitely more valuable than anything we can imagine. Stand in His grace, WOS |

10 | what blessing that tithing bring to our | Bible general Archive 3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 158517
Reference Malachi 1:6-14: How do these versus directly relate to us today? We offer God unworthy sacrifices just as they did. They offered blemished animals and we offer ourselves half-heartedly. Romans 12:1 informs us that we are to be living sacrifices to our God. If we give God only our left over time and energy, then we are repeating the same sin as these worshippers did. What we give God, time, energy, money or whatever, reflects our true attitude toward Him. Our tithe and offering to our Lord should be our life. We should be giving Him His due honor, respect, worship and time. Sometimes we are led to believe that following God is supposed to make life more comfortable. God is not a God of convenience. It takes commitment and hard work to live up to God’s high standards. We will have to make certain sacrifices of our time and energy but what we do give up is nothing compared to what we gain, eternal life with God. Reference Malachi 3:6-15: How were the people robbing God? The same thing we do today, by withholding tithes and offerings. Now tithing to us is not the same as it was in the Old Testament when it was a ten percent offering. Now as Christians, we tithe out of love. Then, they tithed because of regulatory requirements. We tithe and offer today with our time, our money, our help to others, committing to God’s will and by doing His work. But we withhold, don’t we? We all have other things that we have committed to and there is nothing wrong in keeping those commitments. But we need to learn better allot our time. We can’t withhold ourselves from God. We can’t offer Him our left over time and believe that is acceptable. We need to wholly offer ourselves to God. Yes, it will take some sacrifices. Yes it can cause some hardships, but keep your eyes on the goal. The rewards are unimaginable compared to what we give to God, or tithe. Don’t rob God. We can’t sit back and ask what do we gain by serving the Lord either. We know what we gain. We should really be asking what good does it do for God if I serve Him. After all, He is God and He deserves our service. God even asks us to test Him in this. Give the whole tithe to Him and see how much blessing He pours out on us. And know that God stays true to His word. A tithe is obligatory giving. An offering is voluntary giving. Christian obligations (tithes) should become habit. The spontaneous extras we give above and beyond our obligations are offerings. When by faith, seeing nothing, we abundantly give tithes and offerings and our whole self to God, only then do we also experience that God pours out His blessings upon us. So much that it seems our hearts do not have the capacity to contain the Joy and satisfaction. We give tithes and offerings by faith out of love. God deserves the best we have to offer and nothing less. We should change our ways if needed. We should be sensitive to God’s refining process. We should tithe and offer all that we can and then some. There is no room for pride in the presence of God. WOS |

12 | Where does it say no sin is greater? | Bible general Archive 3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 168290
Minna, Your Grandfather may be thinking of the following: James 2:10,11 (KJV) 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. However, it doesn’t convey that one sin is the same as the other or that one is greater than another. It speaks to transgressing the whole law, not the whole of the law. …”but the sense is, that he is guilty of the breach of the whole law, though not of the whole of the law; as he that breaks anyone condition of a covenant, which may consist of many, though he does not violate every condition, yet breaks the whole covenant; so he that transgresses in anyone point of the law, breaks the whole, commits sin, and is deserving of death, and is treated by the law as a transgressor of it, let it be in what instance it will.” – John Gill’s Exposition of the Entire Bible “Whosoever shall keep the whole law, if he offend in one point, wilfully, avowedly, and with continuance, and so as to think he shall be excused in some matters because of his obedience in others, he is guilty of all; that is, he incurs the same penalty, and is liable to the same punishment, by the sentence of the law, as if he had broken it in other points as well as that he stands chargeable with. Not that all sins are equal, but that all carry the same contempt of the authority of the Lawgiver, and so bind over to such punishment as is threatened on the breach of that law.” – Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible With the previous answers that have been posted, the conclusion is that obviously, some sins are greater than others. Question: "Are all sins equal to God?" Answer: Jesus does equate committing adultery with having lust in your heart (Matthew 5:27-28) and committing murder with having hatred in your heart (Matthew 5:21-22). However, this does not mean the sins are equal. What Jesus was trying to get across to the Pharisees was that it is still sin even if you only think about or want to do the act. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day taught people that it was okay to think about anything you wanted to, as long as you didn’t act on those desires. Jesus is forcing them to realize that God judges a person’s thoughts as well as their actions. Jesus proclaimed that our actions are the results of what is in our hearts (Matthew 12:34). So, although Jesus said that lust and adultery are both sins – that does not mean they are equal. It is much worse to actually murder a person than it is to simply hate them – even though they are both sinful in God’s sight. http://www.gotquestions.org/sins-equal.html © Copyright 2002-2006 Got Questions Ministries. 13 | In heaven are we male or female? | Bible general Archive 3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 168399
Question: "Will there be such a thing as gender in Heaven?" Answer: Matthew 22:30 possibly speaks of people after the resurrection not participating in marriage--they become "like the angels." However, this does not mean people are genderless. The masculine, not neuter, pronoun is used many times to describe angels (and HE was like...HIS appearance was like, etc.). So there is no real indication that the angels are genderless beings. There is nothing in the Bible that indicates people will lose or change sex in eternity. In the book of Revelation (chapters 21-22), it seems that God is making things not just like they were in the Garden of Eden, but even better. Remember that gender is not bad--it is actually a good thing. God created Eve because Adam needed someone to complement him. Marriage (impossible without different genders), the model relationship between a man and a woman, is a picture of Christ and the church. The church is the bride and Christ is the groom (Ephesians 5:25-32). Although it is not explicitly taught in the Bible, it seems most likely that people retain their gender after death. Our genders are a part of who we are. Gender is more than physical--it is part of our very nature and part of the way we relate to God. Therefore it seems that gender will be perfected and glorified in eternity. It is also worthy to mention that Jesus retained his gender after His death and resurrection. http://www.gotquestions.org/gender-Heaven.html © Copyright 2002-2006 Got Questions Ministries. 14 | Matthew 4, Luke 5, Mark 1, John 1 | Bible general Archive 3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 168950
Dear Cory, You need to harmonize them? You are thinking that this is all happening simultaneously and is the same event and it is not. Here is a good website to visit to see this as it happens in some kind of chronological order. http://www.blueletterbible.org/study/harmony/index.html Per BLB the event told in John is not the same as the three told in the other gospels and happens sometime before them. The chart at the website above harmonizes the verses you questioned. My Study Bible however shows the questioned events depicted in John happening at some time before the events in Matthew and Mark and these two as being in harmony and the same event but the event in Luke happens later after the events questioned in Matthew and Mark. What happened in Luke is after the four fisherman follow (Matthew 4:18-22, Mark 1:16-20), Jesus teaching with great authority (Mark 1:21-28, Luke 4:31-37), Jesus Healing Peter’s mother-in-law and others (Matthew 8:14-17, Mark 1:29-34, Luke 4:38-41) and preaching throughout Galilee (Matthew 4:23-25, Mark 1:35-39, Luke 4:42-44. Then the events of Luke 5:1-11 and the miraculous catch of fish. This link below seems to be more in line with my Study Bible and might be easier to follow. http://www.lifeofchrist.com/life/harmony.html Hope this helps you and also hope that I didn’t mess this up as I typed it out. 16 | god shouldn't send people to hell. | Bible general Archive 3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 171952
Muzka, You wrote: “I honestly want to argue with God over the issue. Actually I plan to when die. I just don't feel that sending people to hell for whatever reason gets them there is just too much of a punishment. Is it wrong for me to feel that way?” (sic) Personally, I think it is good you feel that way. Every soul is precious in the eyes of God and therefore should be to us as well. You should hate it when one is condemned to hell as much as the angels rejoice over one being saved (Luke 15:1-10). So do something about it!!! Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. You can argue with God, He’s capable of dealing with your argument. So go ahead and argue and when you finally realize that your argument is faulty and based on a defective view of God’s sovereignty, you may realize how just God is. And then, just maybe, you’ll focus on keeping others from Hell by speaking the Gospel and of the saving power there is in Christ. This is much better than wasting your time arguing, wouldn’t you think? Don’t worry so much about whether or not we send ourselves to Hell or if it is God, but know that the latter is the Judge. Know that without God’s grace, we would all be destined for Hell. I view it as such; we all are, or would be, hell-bound, if not for God and His mercy, that through our faith in His Son, He decided long, long, ago to save some. 1 Corinthians 9:22, 23: 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. “that I might by all means save some; that is, that he might be the means of saving some of Jews and Gentiles, and of all sorts of men; by preaching the Gospel of salvation to them, and by directing them to Christ, the only Saviour of lost sinners; thus he explains what he means by so often saying that he might gain them.” – John Gill By all means my friend, save some. 18 | Mary's virginity remained intact | Bible general Archive 3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 180577
Question: "The core of my question is this: does what happened between Mary and the Holy Spirit constitute adultery?" Answer: No! There was nothing sexual that took place. If it had, it would not have been a "virgin birth". It would have been a "had intercourse one time birth". The last time I checked, to remain a virgin, which Mary was at the time of Christ's birth, meant that you had no sexual relations. Matthew 1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: Matthew 1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. It was a miracle. And according to Easton’s Bible Dictionary, a miracle is: “An event in the external world brought about by the immediate agency or the simple volition of God, operating without the use of means capable of being discerned by the senses, and designed to authenticate the divine commission of a religious teacher and the truth of his message. It is an occurrence at once above nature and above man. It shows the intervention of a power that is not limited by the laws either of matter or of mind, a power interrupting the fixed laws which govern their movements, a supernatural power. “The suspension or violation of the laws of nature involved in miracles is nothing more than is constantly taking place around us. One force counteracts another: vital force keeps the chemical laws of matter in abeyance; and muscular force can control the action of physical force. When a man raises a weight from the ground, the law of gravity is neither suspended nor violated, but counteracted by a stronger force. The same is true as to the walking of Christ on the water and the swimming of iron at the command of the prophet. The simple and grand truth that the universe is not under the exclusive control of physical forces, but that everywhere and always there is above, separate from and superior to all else, an infinite personal will, not superseding, but directing and controlling all physical causes, acting with or without them.” God ordinarily effects his purpose through the agency of second causes; but he has the power also of effecting his purpose immediately and without the intervention of second causes, i.e., of invading the fixed order, and thus of working miracles.”… It was a miracle. Don’t attempt to logically explain it away by use of natural and even understood laws. God said it would be so and it was. Stand in His Grace WOS |

20 | When do you not submit to authority | Bible general Archive 3 | Wild Olive Shoot | 187959
Hello nobody, Here are some words to consider in answering your question. Acts 5:27-29: 27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. 1Peter 2:13-17: 13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Romans 13:1-7: 1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. 1Timothy 2:1,2: 1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Titus 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work. If something pleases God, it is good and right. Stand in His grace, WOS |
