1 | Double fulfilment of prophecy? | Matt 2:18 | Joyful | 66951 | ||
The writers of the both the Old Testament and the New Testament did not hold the same interpretation of scripture that we do today on the fulfillment issue. That is why for centuries there was never any questioning of some things, that there has been since the Enlighten, It started then and has continued.. I have often called it the en-darkenment. But until that time for centuries it had been understood.. Thus from my study of the way the Bible is written there is always a lesser fulfillment and a greater fulfillment and those that wrote it knew that and never questioned it. That is why the NT writers and even Christ himself used OT scriptures to refer to the greater fulfillment we see in Christ. as in "My God My God why hath thou forsaken me" David said the same thing in the Psalms when he felt God had abandon him..Christ on the cross was the greater fulfillment of those words. I could go on and on with case after case of the lesser truly happening and the greater taking place at a later time. So there was the first fulfillment of the moment as in Jeremiah and greater one as in Matthew. True as well with many other prophets in the Bible the first fulfillment and the second one. Found often in Christ and even some yet to come. I hope this helps Connie |
