3 | Jeremiah 10:3-5 what does this mean to y | Jer 10:3 | John Ryals | 230479
The word "customs" refers to the "images of wood," i.e., "idols." The word "people" refers to heathen nations. Thwe "vanity" addressed here, concerning the "cutting of the tree out of the forest," is meant by the Holy Spirit to portray the absurdity of thinkinking that something fashioned by the hands of man could be greater than the hands which fashioned it. This making of an idol is the same as described in Isa. 41:7 and 44:13-17, which could very well have been read by Jeremiah, with the Holy Spirit impressing him strongly to emphasize this great sin once more. Such does not show a weakness in the Text, but rather an emphasis placed by the Holy Spirit on that which He considers it to be very important, by all means,we should, as well! These passages are sometimes taken to mean the modern Christmas tree, but actually the tree referred to had no branches left on it at all. This refers to a tree trunk being made into an idol, not the Christmas tree These absurd man-made idols, which "speak not" and which have to be carried about because of having no mobility of their own, are not som ething to be "afraid of." They don't have the power to do "evil" or "good." Have a very Merry Christmas! John Ryals |

5 | What does 'this' refer to | 1 Cor 7:6 | John Ryals | 230344
The Holy Spirit, through Paul, leaves the details of lives, whether celibate or married, to the individual consciences, though with large hearted wisdom and charity. He would emancipate them from human and unauthorized restrictions. In regards to V7, I don't believe this is said by Paul to denigrate marriage as some have claimed; in effect, I believe he is saying that he wished for the Coming Resurrection, when all would be as he was then. In my opinion the 'this' in V7 is the context Paul was speaking of about 'Married Christians' which goes back to V3-V6. Happy Thanksgiving and may God grant you the desires of your heart! 6 | Please expain John 1:1 in layman's terms | John 1:1 | John Ryals | 230067
"In the Beginning" (does not infer that Christ as God had a beginning, because as God He had no beginning, but rather refers to the time of Creation [Gen 1:1] (The Holy Spirit through John descibes Jesus as the 'Eternal Logos'). "And the Word was with God" means that Jesus was in relationship with God,and expresses the idea of the Trinity. 'And the Word was God,' meaning that He did not cease to be God during the Incarnation; He 'was' and 'is' God from eternity past to eternity future. This very Person was in eternity with God; there's only one God but manifested in three Persons---God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
7 | Does faith alone save us? | Gen 15:6 | John Ryals | 230060
Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift og God." The great objects of faith are made known by divine revelation, and made credible by the testimony and evidence which God has given us; and that we believe to salvation and obtain salvation through faith. |

8 | WHAT IS THE MEANING OF RENEWING YOUR MIN | Rom 12:2 | John Ryals | 229853
Proverbs 4:23 states, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life," By renewing my mind I renew my heart! Once renewal is achieved I must guard these new dispositions and inclinations, as well as new sympathies and antipathies. Which comes at the time of Conversion and Sanctification. Romans 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is good, and acceptable, and Perfect, Will of God." |

11 | Opposition of Holy Spirit? | Mark | John Ryals | 229847
Matthew Henry states, "Many of those who reviled Christ on the cross (which was a 'blaspheming' of the Son of man, aggravated to the highest degree), found mercy, and Christ himself prayed, Father, forgive them; but this was 'blaspheming the Holy Ghost, for it was by the Holy Spirit that he cast out devils, and they said, It was by the unclean spirit. By this method they would outface the conviction of all the gifts of the Holy Ghost after Christ's ascension, and defeat them all, after which there remained no more proof, and therefore they should never have forgiveness, but were liable to eternal damnation. They were in imminent danger of that everlasting punishment, from which there was no redemption, and in which there was no intermission, no remission. I would like to further comment on the question: First I believe Mark 3:22-27 is leading up to Mark 3:28 30.Verse (22) states "the scribes came down from Jerusalem," to me this means they came with purpose. To proselyte, to discredit Christs' doctrine, or just to prove they were more knowledgeable; could have been some of the possibilties. But when Jesus asked in verse (23, 'How can Satan cast out Satan?" I believe this prevented them from being successful with their agenda. After a series of more 'Parable thoughts' in verses 24-27 this is when Jesus' explanation of what the unpardonable sin included. To create more in the discussion thread; Verse (28 ) states, "Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherwith soever they shall blaspheme;" Is this not saying that 'blaspheming, can be forgiven? I pray my following comment will expand this discussion. I believe (only a Believer who has ceased to believe, in other words, ceases to evidence Faith in Christ, and a professor of religion, such as these Pharisees, etc., can blaspheme the Holy Spirit; an unsaved person, who has made no profession of faith, cannot blaspheme the Spirit; and when one does blaspheme the Holy Spirit, there will not be any desire to serve Christ, as there was no desire by the Pharisees, tc., to serve Christ) and this is an example of displaying 'Blasphemy'. |

Exodus 6:3 states: "And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by My Name JEHOVAH was I not known to them." In fact, the Name "Jehovah" was not used from the very beginning; however, the full meaning of it was not made known unto Israel until it was time to fulfill the Promises and Covenants with them as a nation. Psalms 83:18 clearly states, "That men may know that You, Whose Name alone is JEHOVAH, are the Most High over all the Earth." Some more scripture's: Isaiah 12:2 and Isaiah 26:4. I pray this can be helpful. God Bless! John Ryals |

Tamar was the half-sister of Amnon. She was he daughter of Maach, a princess of Geshur, one of David's wives. Amnon was David's first-born, the son of Ahinoam of Jezereel. Absalom was also the son of Maacah. At this time, Amnon was about 22 years old; Absalom, 20; Tamar, 15; and Solomon, 2. David was 53 years old. The Chapter begins with "Absalom," as if the Holy Spirit is warning us that the coming rebellion led by Absalom begins here, which is another subject dealt with later on, in this Book of Samuel. I can't say their were any who desired this type of 'wanting,' because Amnon used a plan of deception to create this opportunity, and on top of that he took her against her will. I will say there were some in the Old Testament who were married to their Half- Sisters. The Levitical Laws in that time were held with the utmost, and if you read in the great Book of Leviticus in the 20th Chapter, this should help with your curiosity. May the Lord be with you. 14 | Exactly what does Mark 15:42 mean | Mark 15:42 | John Ryals | 228147
Hello, It is my understanding, that it was approximately 3 p. m.----the evening would be at about 6 p.m. so they had about three hours to work, because("it was the preparation")meaning to prepare for the passover which would begin at 6 p.m. that evening. The High Sabbath of the Passover Feast, which was Thursday, and not the ordinary weekly Sabbath, which was Saturday [Lev. 23:6-7]; Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday, and not on Friday, as many think, spending three full days and nights in the Tomb, and rose on the first day of the week, even as He had said He would do, [Matt. 12:40]. 16 | Women pastors... | 1 Timothy | John Ryals | 228122
Good Morning, I may have some scriptures and some historical comments and views that may increase our visions in this thread. First, I believe Paul was setting some guidelines for the Church of Ephesus through Timothy. These letters were to Timothy, because he had been placed into an elderly position with this Church. If I may, I would like to expound on the verses 2:9-15, which the great Apostle Paul wrote, constituted by our Lord Jesus Christ about 'Women's Guidelines' within the Church. I believe I am correct in saying that verse 11 says, "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection." As I look at the condition of the Church today, I ask myself, "Are there qualified men of God who can take the position of Teacher?" Of course there are, but I believe, if there were not any, then I would appreciate a woman standing up and leading the Gospel, so lost souls may come to understand what sin is about, bringing about Holy Spirit conviction, which would cause lost souls to want to repent and turn from wicked ways. After all, Is this not what preaching the Gospel is About? Leading others to the Cross? I know verse 12 states, "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." I have to believe when Paul was writing this letter to Timothy, he was adressing this issue because there were some discrepencies going on in the Church at Ephesus. Again, let me say that verse 12 does deal with a woman's mannerism in the Church, but this is a letter to Timothy about the Church at Ephesus. Again, if a male teacher is more qualified, he should take the lead: otherwise the woman can do so. Her 'silence,' regarding teachings; unless there is no qualified man, which is the case at times, and this is out of the guidlines the Holy Spirit has set. It's time for men of God to stand up and be teachers of the Gospel and quit being cowards! In the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, verse 28; "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions." The spirit shall be poured out upon some of each sex. Not your sons only, but your daughters, shall prophesy; we read of four sisters in one family that were prophetesses, Acts 21:9. Not the parents only, but the children, shall be filled with the Spirit, which intimates the continuance of this gift for some ages successively in the church. In the 2nd Chapter of Acts, on 'The Day of Penecost' and when it was fully come, Peter spoke of this prophesy by the Prophet Joel, [Acts 2:16-17.] Our God is soveriegn! He can do anything he must do in order to fulfill His prophecies, and to accomplish what He started. We must think, If he can make a Donkey speak, could he not make a woman a preacher or a teacher or a Pastor? May God Bless You, John Ryals |

17 | Is eating pork allowed for Christians? | Matt 15:17 | John Ryals | 228109
These two scriptures, [Matt. 15:17-18] should shed light on your question. To give the 'entire reference' which deals with 'the things that defile' look at Matthew 15:10-20. Based on these two scriptures I support my answer with, I would have to say, "Yes," it is allowed. Now, dealing with our health issue, my answer would have to be, to be mindful of portion sizes. On a personal note, I don't feel the eating of food has anything to do with the spiritual side of man. God Bless, John Ryals |

18 | having sex if engaged biblical stance? | 1 Cor 6:16 | John Ryals | 228076
Your reference scripture,[1st Cor. 10:8] I believe was a warning against immorality. Not just to apply this verse only, to premarital sex; but to apply it against all immoralities. To me the context was verses 1-11 as Paul was speaking to Israel, and my cross reference is [Numbers 25:1-9]. A comment about pre-marital sex: We give our carnal desires head lead by our indulgences, and therefore I feel we should observe and check them when they first rise up: because once they prevail from opportunities we open ourselves to, they begin to sway us, and we know not whither they will carry us. Galatians 5:9; "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump." As I give thought to this scripture, I must examine myself and reveal anything, which could taint the 'whole lump' of Chistianity by one of my erroneous principles, or; I could infect the 'Christian Society' by these principles. I should give great concern as to the Life style of Christ and be mindful not to yeild to one single instance, and if I do, I should endeavor by all proper methods to purge out the infection, by repenting and not doing them again. By properly repenting and putting my faith in the Cross of Christ It will give the Holy Spirit the latitude to do his work and guide me in the correct principles. May the Holy Spirit lead, and guide you in all the principles of your relationship. May God Bless You! John Ryals |

19 | Matthew 28:18-19 | Matt 28:18 | John Ryals | 228060
Hello Begbie, This is my explanation, and I would advise you to search for others, and be open to others, with the Holy Spirit guiding you: When Jesus spoke unto them saying, "All power is given unto Me in Heaven and in Earth," this is not given to Him as Son of God; for, as God nothing can be added to Him or taken from Him; it is rather a power, which He has merited by His Incarnation and His death at Calvary on the Cross [Phil. 2:8-10]; this authority extends not only over men, so that He governs and protects the Church, disposes human events, controls hearts and opinions; but the forces of Heaven also are at His Command; the Holy Spirit is bestowed by Him, and the Angels are in His employ as ministering to the members of His Body. When He said, "all power," He meant, "all power!" In verse 19 when He says,"Go ye therefore," this applies to any and all who follow Christ, and in all ages. Go and preach to all nations proclaiming the truth. We should go forth and give instruction of the whole Gospel for the whole man; Not as a suggestion but to do so because He said in verse 20,"I have commanded you.' In verse 20 also He said, "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen," hence, forever present among us and with us as Companion, Friend, Guide, Saviour, and God; until the end of age because it is the guarantee of His Promise. Amen. I pray this makes sense and it increases the vision of your heart. May God Bless You! John Ryals |
