1 | a demoniac or a person whose bodt is pos | Bible general Archive 4 | HOTH | 231599
Your question is redundant. A "demoniac" IS a person who is possessed by an evil spirit. The one word answer is "demoniac." It means "to be under the power of a demon" or "demon possessed." It occurs, in one form or another, seven times in Matthew, four times in Mark, once in Luke and once in John. Hoth |

3 | Aren't Isaelites and Jews, one people? | Bible general Archive 4 | HOTH | 236532
Hi BarbW3, Are Israelites, Jews, and Gentiles, 3 different entities / groups?? The terms “Hebrew”, “Israelite” and “Jew” have different meanings within the context of the Bible. Hebrews are those subject to God’s covenant with Abraham, i.e. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jacob’s descendants. It does not include Abraham’s other children or Esau. An Israelite is a descendant of Jacob/Israel and his twelve sons. An Israelite would be any member of the twelve tribes of Israel. A Jew, as interpreted by the Bible, is a Hebrew citizen of the southern kingdom Judea or one of their descendants. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were not Jews. There were no “Jews” until the establishment of Judea. The ten tribes of the northern kingdom of Israel were not Jews. The first use of the term “Jews” in the Bible is found in II Kings 16:6. King Rezin of Syria recaptured Elath from the Jews. King Rezin had waged war against Jerusalem with his ally, King Pekah of Israel! So here you see Israel at war against the Jews! When the kingdoms were divided, God gave to Judah the tribe of Benjamin, so “that David My servant may always have a light before Me in Jerusalem . . .” Also, most of the tribe of Levi, the priests, moved to Judea because they were replaced by the King of Israel in their priestly duties. These individuals were also referred to as “Jews” because they lived in Judea. Israel was carried off into captivity by the Assyrians and fell below the historian’s radar. Later, Judea (the Jews) was carried off into captivity to Babylon. They returned 70 years later and rebuilt the temple. Their descendants are recognized today as Jews. Thus, modern Israel is Ancient Judea, not Ancient Israel. Therefore the words Hebrew, Israelite, and Jew, though related, differ in scope: Hebrew, is the most comprehensive of the three, and includes all who are described by the words Israelite and Jew; the word Israelite designates one descended from Jacob; and, the word Jew a citizen of Judea, usually of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin and their descendants. 5 | When do we go to heaven? | NT general | HOTH | 230876
Hi onthebrink247, Compare: Acts 2: 29 Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. And Acts 2: 32-35 This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. 34 For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: ‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, 35 UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET.”’ Compare: Matthew 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. And Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. It would appear from these scriptures that no one has ascended into heaven, except for Jesus. That our reward is in heaven, but Jesus will bring His reward with Him when He returns. Hoth |

6 | how old would Adam and Eve be today? | Genesis | HOTH | 230573
If Adam and Eve were still alive, the short answer would be about 6 six thousand years old. A precise answer is not possible, even the birth date given to Jesus Christ is off by at least 4 years and a few months. Hoth |

7 | Who was Abraham's heir before Eliezer? | Genesis | HOTH | 232212
You have asked 3 separate questions, so I will answer each separately. 1. Was Abram resentful due to losing Lot? I’m not sure what you mean by losing Lot, I assume you are referring to when they separated. There is nothing in scripture to indicate that Abram was resentful. 2. Could this indicate that Abram had adopted his nephew when his brother died? There is no reason to believe that Abram adopted Lot. We do not know how old Lot was when his father died. If Lot were adopted, then would he not have then become Abram’s heir, which he was not? 3. Was Lot receiving an inheritance of some kind? No. Lot did not chose Sodom, but all the valley of the Jordan, he settled in the cities of the Valley and moved his tents as far as the city of Sodom. Lot settled in the area east of the Jordan, out of the promised land in the area later known as “the Land of Moab” between the Arnon and the Jabbok. This area became part of the nation of Moab (Lot’s descendants), but this northern area of Moab was later conquered by the Amorites. The Amorites were in turn conquered by Israel and “the land of Moab” was settled by the tribes of Gad and Reuben. Hoth |

Hi Cindyi, Joseph had ten half-brothers: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, and Zebulun; and one full-brother: Benjamin. In addition to these, Joseph had a half-sister, Dinah. See Genesis 29:32 – 35:18 for details. Hoth |

9 | Were Noah's sons triplets | Genesis | HOTH | 236126
They were not triplets since Noah's first son was born when he was 500 years old and Shem was not born until Noah was 503 years old. Genesis 5:32 states that Noah was 500 years old when he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This would indicate that Noah's eldest son was born when Noah was 500 years old. The flood came when Noah was 600 years old (Genesis 7:11) and lasted for a year (Genesis 8:13-14). Shem was 100 years old 2 years after the flood when Noah would have been 603 years old (Genesis 11:10). Hoth |

10 | Creation days | Genesis | HOTH | 239238
Hi DTS, You ask an excellent question and are right to wonder about these seeming contradictions. All of these verses must be (and are) in harmony. For this purpose, you must let the bible interpret the bible. The first thing to understand is that “in the beginning” is not on the first day. Notice the earth existed before God said, “Let there be light.” That light was the start of the first day and the start of this age, which will end when Christ returns. (John 1: 1-3) God and the Word (Jesus) were “in the beginning” and all things were made through Jesus. If “in the beginning” is the same as the first day of creation, then NOTHING had been created prior to that day. Yet, when the cornerstone of the earth was laid, “the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” (Job 38:7) Were the “morning stars” and “all the sons of God” created that same day, but before the earth? Now notice that the earth is formless and void. Was this the way God created it, that the angels rejoiced and shouted for joy? “In the beginning” is that time before God said “let there be light” and stretches back into eternity. It was a period of time when God created the heavens (universe) and the planet earth and the sun, moon and the stars. This is why we have light from stars that are millions of light years away. Why would God say, “Let there be light” if the sun, moon and stars already existed? Because God had made a “thick darkness its (the earth’s) swaddling band.” (Job 38: 9) The term “swaddling band” implies that there was light outside of this band, otherwise it wouldn’t be a band. When God said, “Let there be light” this thick darkness cleared enough to allow in the light from the sun. On the 4th day God cleared the atmosphere again, where the sun, moon and stars could be seen. Verse 16 merely expands on how God was providing the light by the objects created “in the beginning.” Hoth |

11 | Was Benjamin born before Joseph was sol | Gen 1:1 | HOTH | 230818
Hi smyrdell1, Your three questions are closely related: 1. When Joseph was sold into slavery, was his mother Rachel still living? 2. When was Benjamin born? 3. Was Benjamin born before Joseph was sold into slavery? Benjamin was born on the road to Bethlehem, about 8-10 years after his father Jacob and mother Rachel left Paddan-Aram and about 14-16 years after the birth of Dinah and Joseph. Rachel died shortly after from complications of Benjamin’s birth. It was after this event that Joseph was sold into slavery, so Benjamin would have been an infant or young child and Rachel was dead. Jacob worked for 14 years for his father-in-law Laban, in compensation for Jacob’s marriage to Laban’s two daughters, Leah and Rachel (Genesis 29). Near the end of the 14 years Dinah was born to Leah and Joseph was born to Rachel. Dinah and Joseph were very close in age. Jacob continued to work for Laban another 6 years. (Genesis 31:38) At the end of 20 years, Jacob was told by the Lord to return to the land of his fathers in Canaan (Genesis 31: 3). Jacob first travelled to Succoth, where he built a house and booths for his livestock (Gensis 33:17). This was likely just for the winter months, because Jacob then went safely to the city of Shechem, where he bought a piece of land and erected an altar there. The scriptures do not state how long Jacob lived at Shechem, but this is the city where Shechem, son of Hamot, raped Jacob’s daughter Dinah. Shechem loved Dinah and wanted her for his wife (Genesis 34:1-4). From these circumstances, we can assume that Dinah was 13-15 years old and Joseph would have been about the same age. The Lord then instructed Jacob to go to Bethel and live there (Genesis 35:1). It is unclear exactly how long Jacob stayed in Bethel, but it was long enough that Rachel’s nurse died there, Jacob built an altar and God appeared and spoke to Jacob. Jacob then began a journey to Bethlehem. On this trip Rachel gave birth to Benjamin and then died (Genesis 35:16-19). Jacob then travelled on to Hebron, where his fathers had sojourned, as he had been instructed by the Lord in Genesis 31:3. It was in Hebron that Jacob was living when Joseph was sold into slavery. (Genesis 37) In Genesis 37:10, Joseph relates his dream of the sun and moon bowing down to him. Jacob rebuked Joseph saying, “Shall I and your mother . . . bow ourselves down to you . . .” Jacob was no doubt referring to Leah, Joseph’s stepmother. This was a wrong interpretation of the dream by Jacob. There are no scriptures that show that Jacob ever bowed down to Jacob. In fact, both Leah and Rachel were dead before Jacob was reunited with Joseph. The “sun and moon” was likely a reference to the sun worshipers of Egypt and moon worshipers of Canaan, who did bow down to Joseph, as did all his brothers. Hope this helps, Hoth |

13 | Why does God say "us" in Gen 3:22 | Gen 1:26 | HOTH | 231895
The "Us" would be God the Father and the Word (Jesus Christ). John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. Philippians 2: 5-7 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 15 | God's first kingdom promise to David | Gen 17:1 | HOTH | 230367
mharikai, The promise was first made to Abraham. Genesis 17: 6-7 “I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.” And also to his wife Sarah and his son Isaac. Genesis 17: 19 “But God said, No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.” And then to Jacob. Genesis 36:11 “I am God Almighty; Be fruitful and multiply; A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, And kings shall come forth from you. This covenant consisted of two parts. One was that Abraham would be a father of many nations and the promise of a royal line of Kings. The first being the birthright and the latter being the promise of the Scepter. When Jacob was close to death, he blessed his sons. The birthright went to the sons of Joseph, but the promise of the Scepter went to Judah. Genesis 49:10 “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.” When the people of Israel decided to reject the Lord as their King and wanted a King like the other nations, Saul was chosen. However, Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin and not of the royal line of Judah. After Saul died, the Scepter covenant was confirmed to David in a message from God, delivered to David by Nathan the prophet. 2 Samuel 7: 12-16 “When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, but My loving kindness shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” Hope this answers your question, HOTH |

Jacob loved Joseph more than his brothers because he was the son of his old age (Genesis 37:3). When Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery, God used it for good, to preserve the sons of Jacob in Egypt (Genesis 50:20).
