2 | jesus' birth | Bible general Archive 2 | BibleVerse | 154815
December is a rainy, cold season in Bethlehem. Shepherds would not be out in the fields overnight with their flocks at that time of the year. Also, the Roman Caesar would not likely have required a people who were already inclined to revolt against him to make that trip in the dead of winter to register. Evidently Jesus was born sometime in the early autumn of the year

6 | why did people live long | Gen 6:3 | BibleVerse | 149127
From the early Bible record, we learn that it was not God’s purpose for people to suffer or to die. Our first parents, Adam and Eve, died only because they disobeyed God. (Genesis, chapters 2 and 3) When they disobeyed, they were no longer doing God’s will. They pulled out from under God’s care. In effect, they disconnected themselves from God, 'the source of life.'Psalm 36:9. Like a machine that slows down and stops when disconnected from its power source, their bodies and minds degenerated. As a result, Adam and Eve deteriorated, grew old, and eventually died. What happened then? They went back to where they came from: 'Dust you are and to dust you will return.' God had warned them that death would be the consequence for disobedience to his laws: 'You will positively die.'—Genesis 2:17; 3:19. Not only did our first parents die but all their descendants, the entire human race, have also been subjected to death. Why? Because according to the laws of genetics, children inherit the characteristics of their parents. And what all the children of our first parents inherited was imperfection and death. Romans 5:12 tells us: 'Through one man [Adam, mankind’s forefather] sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned [by inheriting imperfection, that is, sinful tendencies].' And since sin, imperfection, and death are the only things people know, some view them as natural and inevitable. Yet, the original humans were created with the capacity and desire to live forever and is also why they lived so much longer than us, as they were closer to perfection, just as Noah and his family also were closer to perfection and the original purpose that mankind should live forever. That is why most people find the prospect that their life will be cut short by death so frustrating, especially today where we are so far removed from the lineage to Adam and Eve that we only live a fraction of what they lived - btw, you can be sure they were overall healthier than us, too. |

9 | Should a woman pursue a man? | Gen 39:7 | BibleVerse | 159553
Yes, it is "biblical"... take Potiphar's wife... she pursued Joseph, but it was wrong for her to do so in her case and situation. However, it may not be wrong for a woman to express an interest in a man, although by and large, it is usually the man that pursues courtship with a woman. |

Gen 49:31 "There they buried Abraham and his wife Sarah, there they buried Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and there I buried Leah-- Gen 49:32 the field and the cave that is in it, purchased from the sons of Heth." 15 | Is Satan a fallen angel? | Num 22:22 | BibleVerse | 189243
The word “devil” means someone who tells wicked lies about another person. “Satan” means an enemy or an opposer. These are terms given to God’s chief enemy. At first, he was a perfect angel in heaven with God. However, he later thought too much of himself and wanted the worship that rightly belongs to God.—Matthew 4:8-10. This angel, Satan, spoke to Eve by means of a snake. By telling her lies, he got her to disobey God. Satan thus attacked what is called God’s “sovereignty,” or position as the Most High. Satan questioned whether God rules in a worthy way and in the best interests of His subjects. Satan also brought into question whether any human would remain loyal to God. By doing this, Satan made himself God’s enemy. That is why he came to be called Satan the Devil.—Genesis 3:1-5; Job 1:8-11; Revelation 12:9 |

17 | What is Tabor and Hermon? | Josh 19:22 | BibleVerse | 179332
. An outstanding mountain in the territory of Issachar on its northern boundary. (Jos 19:17, 22) In Arabic it is called Jebel et-Tur; in Hebrew, Har Tavor. It is situated about 20 km (12 mi) W of the southern end of the Sea of Galilee and about 8 km (5 mi) ESE of the city of Nazareth. Isolated from other mountains, Tabor rises abruptly from the Valley of Jezreel to an altitude of about 562 m (1,844 ft) above sea level. From the WNW it looks like a truncated cone, and from the SW like the segment of a sphere. From its summit, a rather flat elliptic area about 0.4 km (0.25 mi) wide from N to S and twice as long from E to W, it affords a magnificent view in all directions. The impressive prominence of this mountain probably explains why the psalmist mentions Tabor and Mount Hermon together as outstanding examples of the Creator’s majestic craftsmanship. (Ps 89:12) God also used the striking massiveness of Tabor—standing alone in the Valley of Jezreel—to illustrate the impressiveness of Nebuchadnezzar upon his entering Egypt with a mighty military force.—Jer 46:13, 18. |

18 | where was Saul hiding.... | 1 Sam 10:22 | BibleVerse | 150444
Saul bashfully hid among the luggage. Found, he was presented as king, and the people approvingly shouted: “Let the king live!” Escorted by valiant men, Saul returned to Gibeah. Though good-for-nothing men spoke disparagingly of him and despised him, Saul remained silent.—
19 | how does God see me | 1 Sam 16:7 | BibleVerse | 169704
Not from the outside but from the inside. Yes, God can see us physically, but unlike mankind in general, God looks beyond the physical appearance to peer right into our heart. In the scriptural account that follows, Samuel thought that God was going to select one of David's brothers as King Saul's successor. But, as you'll read, while men (even the spiritual man Samuel!) tend to focus on the exterior, God focuses on the heart: 1 Samuel 16:7 "But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." 20 | Was Job a judge? | Job 29:16 | BibleVerse | 174248
Job was an impartial judge (in his day) but you won't find him listed in the book of Judges, if that is what you mean. He carried out justice and championed the cause of widows, fatherless boys, afflicted and helpless ones. From Job 29:12-17 we read: "Because I delivered the poor who cried for help, And the orphan who had no helper. The blessing of the one ready to perish came upon me, And I made the widow's heart sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban. I was eyes to the blind And feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy, And I investigated the case which I did not know. I broke the jaws of the wicked and snatched the prey from his teeth." Interestingly, he also performed duties as a priest on behalf of his family. (Job 1:4,5) |
