1 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | stjohn | 211875
Dear forum, I don't know if I may be getting into some hot water by straying from some long held beliefs, but. I know it is commonly thought that Jonah did not die in the belly of the great fish, but In light of the verse (above) and others found in this chapter; doesn't this language infer that he did indeed die? As we also see in the verses below the language is seemingly pretty clear that he did die. After all, how could he be in 'Sheol' and not be dead? Also in Matt 12:40 Jesus says: "for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." And compare to Jonah 2:6 "I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God. Anyway, I was just wondering what others may think about this. Personally I think it makes sense, and adds to the miraculous nature of the story of Jonah and how our Lord relates back to it as a sign that identifies it with His death and resurrection.. Just my two cents God bless John |

10 | picture of Christ? | Bible general Archive 3 | stjohn | 186616
Could the tree of life be a picture of Christ? Gen 3:22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"-- John 6:51 "I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh." John 6:55 "For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. John 6:56 "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. John 6:57 "As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. John 6:58 "This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever." |

11 | What was reason for the virgin birth? | Matt 4:1 | stjohn | 184920
Hello all; I hope this question is not redundent; As it pertains to something said here, and maybe it was questioned, if it was, I apologize. But..... I have heard it stated; that the virgin birth accrued so that Jesus would be born "without" a "sin" nature. If this is so: How could He have been tempted? And if not; then..... Why was it a Virgin birth? God bless stj |

Please, please, “donot answer this post” and as a result remove it from the home page! Question: Question (full): 2 Cor. 4:2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 14 | no physical death? not sinners? | Eph 4:9 | stjohn | 184107
Hi PADL; You have made some good points. But, I'm kinda like CDBJ, so can you please clear some things up for me, and may I ask. Wasn't there physical death as well; And not just a spiritual death? Wasn't Adam created to live (physically), forever? And I must say, when I hear a brother say; and I'm quoting you: ..."I'm not a sinner saved by grace,I'm a NEW CREATION IN CHRIST!..." Well, it really worries me. Now I know it might sound like Paul is contradicting himself but I think we need to be careful not to lose sight in that although we are, "NEW CREATIONS IN CHRIST!AMEN!" We still have that old man or sin nature, that we need to fight, for Paul says in Romans 7:15, .."For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate." and, in Rom 7:24 he says; ..."Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? It sure looks like he has lost the battle... But then v,25 says; ..."Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin." Well; it looks to me like maybe I am a sinner saved by faith, and, a new creation in Christ! Looks to me like I'm both! What do you think? Now the reason I say that it worries me when I hear a brother say, "I'm not a sinner saved by grace,I'm a NEW CREATION IN CHRIST!" Well, for me at least I cant honestly say, ...I'm not a sinner... without getting all puffed up and proud. so all I'm saying is I think maybe we need to be careful. If we lose sight of the first we can get puffed up in the last. And after all... I think God said He hates pride. your thoughts? God's peace. stj |
