1 | Are clean jokes still considered lies? | Rom 14:23 | plantersunsalted | 231192 | ||
I'm a stand-up comic and tell one-liner jokes like "I used to open other people's mail as a hobby. Then I realized it wasn't for me." I'm pretty sure everyone knows it's a joke, especially when at a comedy club. But would God see it as a lie? A lot of people say it's not lying if it's not meant to deceive. But the verses I'll post below strictly say lies, liars. I feel as if it was ok, there would be a verse saying something like lying is a sin, but telling a joke to make people laugh and is not intended to hurt anyone is ok. "A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who tells lies will perish." "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." "As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?" |
