1 | A Good Baptist | Luke 10:29 | mbooker | 95115
As I was scanning through recent posts, I came across this: 'If you are a good Baptist...'. I then thought of a comment my boss said one day. 'I wasn't being a good Catholic'. I chuckled at the 'good Baptist' statement because the church I attend wears the label 'Missionary Baptist'. The statement also prompted two questions. 1. What does it mean to be a 'good Baptist' or a 'good Catholic' for that matter? 2. Do we have any scriptural basis for having demoninations? Thanks in advance to those who respond. |

2 | How Did Simon Know - What Did He See | Acts 8:18 | mbooker | 76489
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Acts 8:14-18 How did Simon know that the Hoily Ghost was given? What did he see? |

3 | Plucking Ears equals Breaking Sabbath | Luke 6:2 | mbooker | 74078
And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. Luke 6:1 Was the 'plucking of the ears' done by the disciples considered work? And if so, is that why some of the Pharisees asked 'Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?' |

12 | Where do they go | Luke 23:46 | mbooker | 66030
Good morning Brother Tim I read where you said 'Hell, as we commonly think of it, is empty right now except for certain fallen angels'. I thought that the lost went to 'Hell, as we commonly think of it' :) when they died. I drew this conclusion from: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 16:20-31 I do understand that Jesus taught in parables. If unbelievers don't go to ''Hell, as we commonly think of it' :) when they die, where do they go? It's nice to be able to dialouge with you again... :) Meredith |

14 | firstborn from among the dead | Col 1:18 | mbooker | 65018
How is it that Jesus is the firstborn from among the dead when he was not the first person to be raised from the dead? the Shunammite woman's son (2 Kings 4:12-35), Jairus's daughter (Luke 8:41-56), Lazurus (John 11:14-44).
15 | Born and Adopted | 1 Pet 1:23 | mbooker | 60255
I am seeking to understand the following verses: You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God. I Pet 1:23 To purchase the freedom of (to ransom, to redeem, to atone for) those who were subject to the Law, that we might be adopted and have sonship conferred upon us (and be recognized as God's sons). Gal 4:5 For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will (because it pleased Him and was His kind intent) Eph 1:5 In the natural, I was born into the Booker family and have no need to be adopted into the Booker family. Since we have been born of imperishable seed(and I take this to mean we are born into God’s family), why do we need to be adopted? If anyone has any insight, I would be grateful for your time. Thanks in advance to those who may respond… :) Abba Father Bless… |

16 | A Loving GOD Who Hates | Mal 1:3 | mbooker | 59942
Good Morning All! I have read this verse before and I did not understand how God, who is love, could hate. Last week, a sister came to me and asked if I had ever read the verse and I told her 'yes'. We looked up this verse in other versions and all used the word 'hate' except the NLT, which uses 'rejected'. We both want to understand how our loving God could hate. Does anyone have any insight into this verse? Thanks in advance to those who may response. Abba Father bless... |
