3 | please could i have a list of scriptures | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121332
Dear Searcher - Please do not be sad. This all was very confusing but I did not get offended or put off. I just see that a lot of people feel very strongly about their beliefs. I am seeing that there are some important differences between different churches (Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Baptist etc...) but I hope that the biggest thing we all have in common (our love for God and our belief in and appreciation of his son's sacrifice) will unite us. Searcher, can you please send me a list of just scriptures regarding this subject? And if anyone else wants to they can too. I will read them and pray to God that he will help me to understand them. I respect you so much and I am grateful to all of you who took the time to answer my questions. I think most people who participate in this forum are doing so because they want to help new Christians or others with questions. I have said it before but, I am very happy that I have somewhere to go where I can talk to people who have been studying the bible for so long. I am a rather shy person and this gives me the opportunity to ask all the questions I have. After I get the list of scriptures from anyone who is kind enough to write them down I don't think I'll come to this thread again. I feel kind of bad, like I started a problem. But, I will definitely continue to come to this forum. Hopefully in time I'll even be able to help someone else who is a new Christian. Also, I sincerely hope that no one harbors any bad feelings toward anyone else because of this thread. I love you all and feel that you are my brothers and sisters in Christ. Love, Leonore

Thank you WalkingTalkingBible!I am so unknowledgeable. Can you please tell me what happens when you are filled with the holy spirit? Do you know it? Is it different from when we are praying or worshipping and we feel the holy spirit? My pastor talked a little about this one time but, I don't really understand it very well. One last question,(sorry)when God fills you with his holy spirit do you continue to have it or do you have to keep praying for it? Thank you!

6 | can you explain a little more? thanks | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121038
Thank you very much for these scriptures. I am going to take the time to read them thoroughly.I really appreciate the information you have given me. I'm having a hard time seeing the difference, as you said, with the works of the law and the changes that are expected from accepting Christ. The thing is it seems like the changes that are expected from accepting Christ are that you will be following a lot of the law,(do not lie, kill, steal, etc...) and if you're not than you're not really saved? It almost seems like a contradiction to say being saved is a free gift but, we have to be active participants. I promise I'm not trying to argue, I'm just really trying to get this straight in my own head. I have been a Christian since October, and I am doing my best to understand things. I appreciate so much you taking the time to explain things and giving me more to think about. I feel bad for not completely understanding.
7 | Thank you! Just need to understand littl | Rom 7:13 | leonore | 121036
Thank you very much. Your note helped me to understand this passage more clearly. I still have a couple of questions, I understand how the law causes us to know what sin is. I don't really understand how sin appropriates the law. I also still don't understand the part of the scripture that says "by effecting my death through that which is good". I'm sorry to be so insistant on understanding these phrases but, I've been studying Romans for a couple months now. It's the first book I've studied and I keep in mind 2 Timothy 3:16 when it says that "all scripture is inspired by God" so I try to understand as much of it as I can. Thank you!
8 | need help understanding this scripture | Rom 7:13 | leonore | 121031
What does it mean here by "Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good"? This seems very complicated and I would appreciate any input. Thank you!
9 | Does sin use the law or benefit from it? | Rom 7:5 | leonore | 121030
This scripture and also verse 8 are confusing to me. How are sinful passions aroused by the law? and in verse 8 how does sin take opportunity through the commandment? Thank you!
10 | meaning of according to the flesh? | Rom 8:13 | leonore | 121029
What does it mean to live according to the flesh? Does this scripture mean that if we continue to sin or repeat the same sin over and over we will die? This scripture confused me because it seems to be saying that works have an affect on whether we have eternal life or not. Forgive me if I am misunderstanding the scripture. I am a fairly new Christian and sometimes it's hard for me to understand. Thank you!

14 | definition of "atonement" and "reconcili | Rom 3:25 | leonore | 114855
I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I think this is basic knowledge but, I really don't have a full understanding. Could someone please give me a definition of what atonement means? Does it mean something like payment for our sins? Does reconciliation mean to be able to have a relationship with God, to be able to draw near to him? (2 questions) Thank you!

19 | wondering about this in my life | 2 Tim 3:16 | leonore | 114501
I prayed a prayer like this the first time I went to the church I'm going to now. It was actually a song that said "I'll never know how much it cost to see my sins upon the cross" that had hit me real hard and made me want to draw closer to God and dedicate my life to him. I don't think I had any kind of accurate knowledge and after 5 months I am still just beginning to get an understanding. I do love God with all my heart and am trying with everything I have to find out more about him, what makes him happy, and to change when I find out that something I do is displeasing to him. This post talks about something I have wondered about since at the time I wasn't as sure about what I was doing. I just knew that I didn't like my former way of life and I knew that the most important thing I could do was find out God's will in my life and I was grateful for Jesus' sacrifice that made it possible. Do you think that my prayer still was valid even though I had so little knowledge of what I actually was doing?
20 | possible for God to turn his back on Jes | Rom 5:4 | leonore | 114468
As a new christian sometimes I feel I have so many questions and I don't want to bother my pastor too much. I thank God that I've found somewhere that when I have a question I have somewhere to come. I have a question from my pastor's message today. He was telling us about Jesus' suffering on the cross. He was telling us how it was so much more than physical suffering and how he took on all our sins. The part I didn't understand was when he said God had to turn his back on Jesus. It kind of confused me because since Jesus is God I don't understand how that's possible. Do you have any scriptures that can help me to understand?
