3 | the bible | Romans | julcol87 | 231326
Does all of the bible apply to us, or are there some versus that don't apply to us today? My husband and i were having a discussion on heaven and of course he doesn't believe that we are going to heaven so i quoted him what Jesus says in John 14:1-4, and he told me that verse does not apply to us, it only applies to the annointed. I disagreed. So thats another question. Who are the annointed, or I guess according to the Watchtower, the 144,000 who are going to heaven? Thanks. Be Blessed! Julia |

5 | Advice and encouragement | 2 Tim 2:15 | julcol87 | 229469
Hello to all, My post today is mainly for advice, and encouragement. Ever since i gave my life to Christ, it's been beautiful, and i wouldn't want it any other way. I now desire to know more about him, to read his word and spend time in prayer. I know I'm taking the right path because my heart tells me so and so does God's word. I have a problem tho. My husband gives me a hard time about my faith. He sees that i have a drive to know God and read his word, but according to him, i do not have the Holy Spirit. He believes JW's are the only ones who have the Holy Spirit. According to him, I'm doing right in reading God's word, but i'm not taking in accurate knowledge, because what i believe is not from the bible. Honestly, I'm happy in my spiritual life with Christ. He's just very knowledgeable, and his sarcasim towards my faith is what brings me down, but i will never be part of the Watchtower Society! Thanks to all. |

6 | What does begotten mean on this verse? | Heb 1:5 | julcol87 | 229074
Hello to all, My question today is on HEB 1:5. Does the word begotten have different meanings in scripture? I know in John 3:16 it means one and only, or unique, but does it mean the same thing for HEB 1:5? The amplified did help me understand a little, but I'm still confused.. Thanks to all. God Bless |

8 | New World Translation | 2 Cor 4:2 | julcol87 | 228655
Hello to all, My question today is on the New World Translation, Jehovah's Witness bible. My husband has told me before that the Watchtower and tract society restored the bible by putting Jehovah's name back into it because it was originally removed like 7,000 times. He says that my bible is wrong because of the removal of God's name and that alot of things have been changed to fit the doctrine of most religions, including mine. I have learned through websites and people that the JW's published their own bible to fit their doctrine. Either way, he believes my bible is wrong and i believe his is wrong, so we're getting nowhere. Only God can save him. I was reading about the NWT on Wikipedia and why is it that they have scholarly support, stating that it is an accurate translation when they have changed some important verses..? Thanks to all Julia |

11 | Different beliefs and salvation | John 3:16 | julcol87 | 228232
Biblicalman, I wanted to add something to the different beliefs and salvation topic. You probably know that the JW's are well known for their door to door evangelism and believe it's something that must be done as followers of Jesus. Everyone says of the JW's that they do it because they are trying to earn their salvation, they fill out time sheets to turn in on how many hrs they've done for the month and I think it's a requirement when someone decides to join their organization. But when I've discussed this with my husband he says that it's not a requirement by the organization, its a commandment given by Jesus himself to make disciples (Mat 28:19). Another bible verse they use for going door to door is Acts 5:42. I'm just wondering if they are correct in doing that.? Thanks Julia |

12 | Different beliefs and salvation | John 3:16 | julcol87 | 228203
Searcher, Thanks for your response... Sorry if I'm looking too much into it, or making this difficult.. So one can continue to be a Catholic believing in the virgin Mary, confessing your sins to the priest, or continue to be a Jehovah's Witness, believing Jesus is just the greatest man, or that the Holy Spirit is just a force, and still be saved? As long as the person has a relationship with Christ, that's all they need for salvation? |

13 | relationship with Christ | John 3:16 | julcol87 | 228192
Biblicalman, I know that there is a difference between a person who simply says they believe in Christ and a person who believes in Christ and has a changed life. Say my grandma does have a personal response to Christ, but continues being a Catholic, being that Catholics are wrong in some of their beliefs and practices, does that matter? I know no religion or church is going to save you, but Christ alone. So if she continues to be a catholic, but does have a personal relationship with Christ, will she be saved? |

14 | elder led, elder taught? | 1 Tim 2:12 | julcol87 | 228055
Beja, What do you mean by elder led and elder taught? This woman who preaches at my church is the pastors daughter and she only preaches maybe once a month, or once every two months. My dad doesn't like it when women preach, because he was taught only men should preach, but i think it's nice because God has put that in her heart. Julia |

16 | believing and being born again? | John 3:16 | julcol87 | 227909
Hello to all I need help with understanding something about a couple scriptures in John. It says in John 3:16 "whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." For example my grandma is a Catholic, and if all she would need to do is believe in Jesus to have eternal life, what about being born again? John 3:3 says "unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." So what if she believes, but is not born again? Can someone explain to me how that works..? Thanks to all Julia |

18 | book of mormon? | Mark 7:8 | julcol87 | 227698
Makarios, So would an example of "tradition of men" be John Smith and the Book of Mormon? Or like JW Charles Taze Russell and the Watchtower ? They taught people things that were NOT from God and people followed? And it makes sense that holidays are a tradition that was started by man,so can you help me understand the difference? Thanks Julia |

20 | symbolic/literal scriptures? | Jer 32:35 | julcol87 | 227520
Beja, It is very clear to me in scriptures that there is the existence of hell, but he gets different passages to try and prove there is no hell, because that's what he was taught from the very beginning of his life. I would like to have the knowledge you have of the Bible already, but I'm just a baby in Christ. Thank you and everybody else who helps us on this website. And can you explain to me what it means when a scripture is symbolic, or literal? Thanks Julia |
