1 | trust and faith | Gal 5:22 | hic | 170819
this question is about trust - when i am driving and i see another motorist stranded on the side of the road, my first immediate inclination is to pull over and see what assistance if any i can offer, my usual actual reaction though, is to continue driving by. i've been terribly bothered by this, especially in light of the story of the good samaratian. when discussing this with my wife, she insists that things today are not like they were then and that god gave us tools such as cells phones to use thereby keeping us safer from the results that could arise when one risks a face to face, especially here in NYC. i know that trusting or surrending to god does not mean tempting him by walking off the roof of a 20 story building, expecting that i will survive. my question is what kind of trust are we discussing and how do i find the correct balance? how would one ascertain if it's his own shortsightedness that may lead him into what would otherwise be a unnecessary life threatening situaton or that of his god's inspired will? thanks |

2 | words | Gen 24:9 | hic | 170814
hi. i bought a Stongs concordance. it said in the begining that words without numbers next to them may have been included by the translators because no hebrew or greek word existed - i looked up the above verse, wrote down evey work, and then crossed out every word which was not listed in the concordance. i came up with the following sentence servant put hand thigh abraham master swore oath my first question: they really spoke like that? my second question concerns how they translators decided that the hand was placed over, under or on? the word on appears, but since it was not used in translation i presume that was NOT the original word used. that leaves over or under - since neither word appears, how did they choose? thanks |

5 | diff | Bible general Archive 3 | hic | 170684
hhmmmm.... i'm confused. i thought god's word is GOD's word irrespective of whether one is christian or not? are we proposing that GOD is accepting of different interpertations and accordingly different applications of his word due to no other reason than what one considers himself? if the interpertation is permitted to be different, than it stands to reason the application would be also. are we suggesting god abides different applications of how he said something should be done? thanks
6 | differences | Bible general Archive 3 | hic | 170679
thanks! i have no doubt what they say can be found in the bible, though it seems if i were to ask a priest, a rabbi, a baptsit, a mormon, etc to interpert the same bible passage, i would get 4 plus different versions. how can the word of god be so differently interperted? thanks!
7 | differemces | Bible general Archive 3 | hic | 170678
Thanks, but it is precisely the various denomination's teachings based on the bible that i'm having problems with! each denomination seems to interpert the same bible teaching's with subtle but differences enough so as to cause separation and division into many factions, each claiming their interpertation is correct. for example, i read once that if Jesus visted a particular church, standing in the back observing the service, at the end would he agree with everything he saw and heard? would he say: YES! you got it right, that's exactly what i was talking about, or would he say: how in the world did you interpert and translated what I said and did into what your're now doing and saying? i'm not proposing we try to second guess what Jesus would say, but you get the point - how do various denominations jusify through scripture their interpertation differences?
8 | bible interpertations | Bible general Archive 3 | hic | 170663
with all the numerous bible translations, and all the numerous interpertations of those translations, and all the numerous denominations all claiming THEIR way and interpertation is the only "right" one - where does one start? how does one ascertain for instance that baptisim needs IN FACT (scripture based)to be performed via emersion rather than "sprinkling", when various denomination all claim to support their method via scripture? thanks |

9 | confirm scripture | Bible general Archive 3 | hic | 170669
i'm very confused about how to confirm whether things that are done and/or said in chuch and by other "authority" figures are scripture based or "man" based -seems to me a lot of people who tell you what to believe and how to believe have not "experienced" things for themselves, that is to say their beleifs seem to be based on what OTHERS think and believe and not first hand experence, and more importanly they don't seem to be able to back up same with scripture? thanks |

10 | educated opinions | Gen 6:9 | hic | 170555

11 | animals and the flood | Gen 6:9 | hic | 170536
unless i'm mistaken, only the creatures living in the oceans survived the flood - what "sin" was the creatures on the land and in the air, other than man, guilty of? not to question god, but were not the animals "innocent"? while their decendemts were sparred, THEIR lives were cut short - thanks!
12 | noah - blameless | Gen 6:9 | hic | 170535
thanks hank - please advise what noah was "blameless" for or from; if he was born with the sa,e sin as the rest, is it that he just choose how he would live with the sin, and is THAT what made him blameless?
13 | follow up - noah | Rom 3:23 | hic | 170534

14 | noah and perfection | Gen 6:9 | hic | 170504
i think it was in the king james version, it said something like Noah's generations were perfect, or Noah was perfect in his generations my question: does Noah's "perfection" mean that he was born without original sin, or was he born "with" original sin but his "perfection" overcame that? thanks! |
