1 | Children, women? | Is 3:12 | formereverything | 124123
"My people! Their oppressors are children, And women rule over them." Is this figuritive or what. I don't know why, but this verse struck me as odd, almost contemporary. |

2 | Salvation by compulsion-Romans 5 | Rom 5:1 | formereverything | 121841
Romans 5 seems to be promoting a salvation by compulsion. Am I not getting this correctly? Note the term "Dominion" in this verse: 17 If, because of the one man's trespass, death exercised dominion through that one, much more surely will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness exercise dominion in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. I think of the word 'dominion' as being devoid of choice. Note the term 'just as' in these verses: 18 Therefore just as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all, so one man's act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all. 19 For just as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. Adam's sin brought sin automatically on every person born. Does these verses imply that salvation or grace rather, is automatic ' just as' sin is automatic? This seems so in light of the next verse: 20 But law came in, with the result that the trespass multiplied; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, |

3 | Judged according to the measure of truth | Rom 2:12 | formereverything | 121629
I came upon these verses in my study: 2:12 All who have sinned apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 2:13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in God's sight, but the doers of the law who will be justified. 2:14 When Gentiles, who do not possess the law, do instinctively what the law requires, these, though not having the law, are a law to themselves. 2:15 They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, to which their own conscience also bears witness; and their conflicting thoughts will accuse or perhaps excuse them 2:16 on the day when, according to my gospel, God, through Jesus Christ, will judge the secret thoughts of all. In light of these scriptures; is it reasonable to conclude that it is not absolutely neccesary for the great commission to be fullfilled before Christ's return? Would these verses imply that people will be judged according to the measure of truth they have received? |

4 | The Blood, The Body | Heb 10:20 | formereverything | 121134
Can this be interpreted as a reference to communion or eucharist? What I get from these verses is this: We enter the presence of God BECAUSE of the BLOOD. And We enter THROUGH the BODY. The KJV translation: 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; New Century Version 19 So, brothers and sisters, we are completely free to enter the Most Holy Place without fear because of the blood of Jesus' death. 20 We can enter through a new and living way that Jesus opened for us. It leads through the curtain -- Christ's body. The Message: 19 So, friends, we can now - without hesitation - walk right up to God, into "the Holy Place." Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The "curtain" into God's presence is his body. 20 |

5 | Cleanse Conscience? Dead Works? | Heb 9:14 | formereverything | 121052
This sounds poetic but can anyone explain simply what this verse is saying? How does Christ sacrifice cleanse the conscience? What are dead works? As opposed to living works? |

6 | How do I meditate? Cross Ref Ps 4:4 | Matt 5:22 | formereverything | 120943
"when you lay in bed search your thoughts and remove all negative feelings: all angry thought that would cloud your mind and build up an evil foundation in your heart" How do I do this? I used to use buddhist meditation. I doubt that would be correct for me now. Is there a Christian way to "meditate"? |
