1 | Giving charity to requesters for sermon | 2 John 1:10 | dhuskins | 143556
Lionheart, This is not about the money. As I said, it is very little. What sparked the discussion in our study group was the various references to helping people in need. I made the comment that I think I recall a verse that mentions taking in christians into your home. |

2 | Is asking for money false? | 2 John 1:10 | dhuskins | 143545
Thanks for the help... interesting passage... Unfortunately, this is not what I seem to be searching. I recall that the passage had more to do with identifying a false teacher/priest/prophet. A verse or two before talked about helping those in need. Something like: If a christian is travelling from their home, you should take them in and take care of them for three days. If, on the other hand, they ask for money/charity then they do not come with the word/light of god (thereby can be identified as false teachers.) I realize I am paraphrasing completely (since I cannot remember the verse). The discussion came up between myself and some friends when we were trying to figure out who to give some found money to (very small amount, but money nonetheless.) One person said, Give it to me and I will find a good charity for it. This led to the verse in quesion, which I am now trying to look for. |

3 | request for money is a false teacher? | 2 John 1:10 | dhuskins | 143540
Should I give to a traveling preacher who asks for charity? I recall from my youth that there is a passage in the bible that says that we should take into our house a fellow christian in need... BUT we should shun/cast aside anyone who asks for charity in return for sermon/religious service. I have been looking for the reference that addresses this. I cannot recall if the wording was that people who ask for money are false teachers or something to that effect. If someone can point me to the verse, I will be greatly appreciated. |
