1 | Eastern Orthodoxy Interest | 1 Thess 1:1 | beensetfree | 97774
Dear All: I feel a call, of more than a passing interest, in Russian Orthodoxy. By this I do not mean Roman Catholicism, but to Eastern Orthodoxy, of which Catholicism broke off in the Great Schism of 1054 AD. I can clearly see, historically, how this Church is the true apostolic Church handed down from the Apostles. I would be interested to know if any here are of that Church. I would also be interested for any references on reading about this Church. If this is the wrong forum for a discussion about this, please point me in a direction that is more appropriate. Thank you for your kind responses. In Christ, Beensetfree |

2 | Fullment of Prophecy? | Revelation | beensetfree | 71280
Our pastor said in a recent sermon that Saddam Hussein was rebuilding Babylon and has been for the last 23 years. He said this is in fulfillment of prophecy. Can anyone tell me what prophecy this is supposedly fulfilling? Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this statement? Thank you and bless you. Beensetfree |

3 | Color commentary vs direction for living | 1 Corinthians | beensetfree | 70891
EdB: You pose an interesting question. How does one determine what is "color commentary" on how to live and what is "direction" for living? Do we read, study, and examine scripture to glean the overarching prinicple God wants us to live by? Continuing to use as an example the issue of long hair for women per 1 Corinthians, is the overarching principle God wants us to live by that women live and present themselves in such a manner as to glorify God in all manner of dress and care of self? I would humbly suggest, yes. I also cannot help but think this section in 1 Corinthians speaks to the current issue of women dressing like men and wearing their hair as many men do. Further, look at the entire context of this passage. What is the main focus? Prayer. And the second issue? The headship of man. I pray I don't raise the hackles of a few readers by tossing out some of these thoughts. I look forward to reading some of the forum contributers thoughts on this topic. Thank you for letting me respond! Beensetfree |

4 | Who/what determines inaccurate doctrine? | Eph 2:20 | beensetfree | 69388
Emmaus: I can appreciate the quote "what divides us is inaccurate doctrine." Just having finished a semester of studying the Reformation period, I understand this in spades. But the age old question, which the Reformers argued over was, who determines what is 'accurate' or 'inaccurate' doctrine? For some it was the Fathers of the Church, for others it was tradition, for others it was the interpretation of the words "This IS my body" and what "IS" meant. I would appreciate yours, Reformer Joe's, Hank's, Justme's, and others comments on how one determines "inaccurate doctrine." I do not want to foster an argument but am sincere in asking. It was distressing to read about all the martyrdom during the Reformation period and the treatise's that went back and forth over doctrinal issues. I continue to be distressed over how the Body of Christ argues over seemingly small issues. Thanks in advance to all who respond. For His Glory, Beensetfree
5 | Imputed sin vs. sin nature-the same? | Rom 5:12 | beensetfree | 63491
Okay, now I'm really confused. :-) Can someone explain the statement "Inherited sin, which we get from our parents (Psalm 51:5), is our sin nature" versus "Adam's sin must have been imputed or counted to all men for all to die physically." Is it not true that both of these are the same? Imputed sin and sin nature? Sin was imputed to us by Adam and thus became our nature. No? Thanks for any help in clarifying this. (I'll also check out the two recommended websites.) Always His, Beensetfree |
