The Interlinear Parallel New Testament in Greek and English by Alfred Marshall says that the "who" (one) in the phrase, "who has taken them captive to do his will", refers back to the 'remoter antecedent' (God). What do you think? Where would Mr. Marshall get the idea that the this word (who or 'one') refers back to the "remoter" antecedent? Perhaps there is something about the Greek that would dictate this? | ||||||

Thank you Searcher, It does not seem that 2 Tim 2:26 is dealing specifically with a church leader but rather with the ones that are opposing the church leader. It would seem, then, that they may be anyone, even unbelievers and heretics, that this passage is saying may come to their senses. What do you think? |

I have always understood this verse to mean that the persons being spoken about were "held captive by Satan to do his (Satan's) will. How can I be sure that the amplified version is accurate in telling me that the persons are escaping "...henceforth to do God's will"? | ||||||
