1 | Levi - No regard for his parents | Deut 33:9 | Wallace Howe | 81100
Greetings; Was wondering whether in fact this is Moses or Aaron here speaking of Levi. If so Levi seems to be disrepectful, turning aside from his parents and brother and children as well. Again it would appear that he is being praised for taking such a "hard" line againest his earthy family to be free to exclusivly focus on the task of guarding over God's word and covenant. What is exactly his stance here against his family? Is one to take from this as another example of the sugggestion that the reverence and devotion we usually have for our kin , it is recommended that we give up and in turn invest all of it in God? I get the same message from Luke 9:59-62. I am exploring scripture to better understand God's view of the dilemma of serving one's earthly family vs. the family of God which are usually two different groups, as in my case they are no believers in my family of origin. Many thanks ...... In Christ |

2 | Man's ememies are in his household | Matt 10:36 | Wallace Howe | 81018
This certainly is a powerful verse. It certainly goes together with Matthew 10:34. It seems to me Christ is suggestings his mission on earth is to divide, separate via of the sword, believers from non-believers, the focus here is within families so that they will only follow him instead of one of the false Gods, that of Familism or say Momism. Deut. Ch. 13 seem to say that that the one's greatest honor is to God and not to one's parents and family. Evil is alwalys found within families. It is clear to me that he came to save me from them with a sword. They under the power of Satan had left me too weakened and helpless to rise up and confrount them alone. This was a key verse to my redemption. I would be interested in hearing what others think and feel on this verse and the entire mattter of confronting your family members/ememies with the help of the sword of Christ? Thanks |
