1 | Policy Question | 2 Cor 3:17 | Jim Estes | 208462
This is a question about Study Bible Forum policy and procedure. Today there was a post asking the identity of the four horsemen of Revelation. During the day the question, which seemed innocent enough, and all subsequent notes by the poster were deleted and replaced by three dots. Also, attempts to answer the question were blocked. When I posted a note with an answer to the question, it was also censored. This seems to be a little over the top. Can this pleased be explained. Thank you in advance. Your brother in Christ, Jim |

4 | What is the "Lord's Day" | Rev 1:10 | Jim Estes | 206722
Revelation 1:10 "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet," I have often seen the interpretation of the "Lord's Day" in Rev. 1:10 as the first day of the week or Sunday. Is there scripture to support this? I ran a word search of "Lord's Day" and found only this verse in Rev. However, using "Day of the Lord" I found numerous scriptures which indicate the future events of Christ's return. Wouldn't John have been "in the Spirit" on this future date when he witnessed the revelation of these events? Thanks, Jim |

5 | Idiom? | Bible general Archive 4 | Jim Estes | 205488
Matthew 12:39-40 “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. When Jesus says, “three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” is he using an idiom meaning one day and night and parts of 2 other days and/or nights? If yes, who first decided it was an idiom? Since this is prophesy, and not subject to a private interpretation, where does scripture interpret “three days and three nights” as an idiom? |

6 | Spices and the Sabbath | Luke 1:2 | Jim Estes | 205111
Matthew 12:39-40 states that “as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Some think this means that Jesus went into his tomb just before sunset on Wednesday and came out of the tomb on Saturday just before sunset. Others feel the three days and three nights is an idiom and Jesus went into the tomb on Thursday or Friday and arose Sunday morning. My question concerns the spices which the women prepared and brought early Sunday morning to the tomb. Mark 16:1 – When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. Luke 23:56 – Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. The women bought the spices after the Sabbath was over, but prepared them before the Sabbath! How can these two scriptures be reconciled? |

7 | Why the difference between 6 and 8 days | Luke 9:28 | Jim Estes | 199800
Luke 9:28 Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. Matthew 17:1 and Mark 9:2 both say six days. Why the difference between 6 and 8 days? Thank you. Jim Estes |

8 | Which "land of Moab" in Ruth? | Ruth 1:1 | Jim Estes | 193476
Ruth 1:1 Now it came about in the days when the judges governed, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the land of Moab with his wife and his two sons. Which “land of Moab” did Elimelech, Naomi and their two sons sojourn? Was it the “land of Moab” across the Jordon where “Moses undertook to expound this law.” (Deu 1:5), where Moses spoke the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded (Deu 29:1), opposite Jericho which contains Mount Nebo (Deu 32:49) and where Moses died and is buried (Deu 34:5-6)? This is the land also described as “the plains of Moab” which were given to the tribes of Gad and Reuben as an inheritance (Joshua 13:32). “It was indeed a place suitable for livestock” (Num 32:1). It was beyond the Jordan between the Arnon and Jabbok Rivers. Or was it the actual nation of Moab? If it is the nation of Moab, then how is this reconciled with Deu. 23:3? "No . . .Moabite shall enter the assembly of the LORD; none of their descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall ever enter the assembly of the LORD.” The “land of Moab” is a phrase used to describe both areas of land. It seems, coming from Bethlehem, they would first travel through the “land of Moab” occupied by Gad and Reuben before reaching the nation of Moab. Ruth could be referred to as a “Moabitess” because she was a Moab by birth, or as her place of residence as a Reubenite or Gadite. Just as Elimelech, Naomi and their two sons were known as Ephrathites (Ruth 1:2). Thank you. |

9 | Was Drusilla Jewish or an Edomite | Acts 24:24 | Jim Estes | 185110
Acts 24:24 "But some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla, his wife who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus." Drusilla is identified by Josephus as the youngest daughter of Herod Agrippa I, who was an Edomite. Paul says Drusilla was a Jewess. What am I missing? Did she merely practice the Jewish faith and was an Edomite,or is this a different Drusilla? Thank you for your help. Jim Estes |

10 | Who is the Nation without understanding? | Rom 10:19 | Jim Estes | 183614
Romans 10:19 But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says, "I WILL MAKE YOU JEALOUS BY THAT WHICH IS NOT A NATION, BY A NATION WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING WILL I ANGER YOU." I understand "that which is not a Nation" refers to the Gentiles. But, who is the "Nation without understanding" that angered Israel? |

13 | Does Romans 3:10-11 Include the Saints? | Rom 3:11 | Jim Estes | 177851
Romans 3:10-11 “As it is written, none is righteous, just and truthful and upright and conscientious, no, not one. No one understands; no one seeks out God.” Do these verses include all of mankind, including the Saints. This interpretation seems to contradict numerous other scriptures. “As it is Written” is making reference to Psalm 14. Verse 2 states that these verses pertain to “. . . the children of men . . .” The Saints are described in John 1:12 and Romans 8:16 as “. . . children of God . . .” Or is Romans 3:10-11 in reference only to those where God “gave them over” in Romans 1:24, 26, 28 and “the fool has said in his heart, there is no God.” Psalm 14:1 This is not to imply that Saints never sin. There is not a righteous man upon earth who does good and never sins. (Ecclesiastes 7:20) But that is very different from saying there are none that are righteous, not even the Saints! Please respond only if you can directly answer the question and cite scripture as proof. Thank you. Yours in Christ, Jim Estes |

14 | The Rock of Israel in the Wilderness? | Gen 28:18 | Jim Estes | 177367
"And Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone he had put under his head, and he set it up for a pillar (a monument to the vision in his dream), and he poured oil on its top [in dedication]." (Genesis 28:18) This pillar seems to be the rock which is symbolic of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jacob anointed this rock and Jesus is known as the “Anointed One.” This Rock was also “the house of God.” (Genesis 28:22) This was Jacob-Israel’s Rock and Jesus is known as “the Rock of Israel.” (Genesis 49:24) Is this the rock that followed the Israelites during their 40 years in the wilderness, providing them with water? (1 Corinthians 10:4) With over a million Israelites in the wilderness it would appear this rock provided water many more times than just the two instances recorded in scripture. |

15 | Jewish population, why so small? | Gen 15:5 | Jim Estes | 174476
God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as the stars, so numerous that they cannot be counted. The Jewish world population is less than 15 million. This is much less than the populations of many other peoples. How can this prophesy be reconciled? Yours in Christ, Jim Estes |

16 | Israel in Egypt 430 yrs? | Gen 15:13 | Jim Estes | 171820
How could the Israelites have been in Egypt for either 400 or 430 years? Gen 15:16 In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure." Ex 12:40 Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years. 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD's divisions left Egypt. The fourth generation can be found as the children of Moses, since Moses did not enter into the Promised Land. Kohath was one of the orginial 70 Hebrews to come into Egypt and is the Grandfather of Moses. Gen 46:11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Ex 6:18 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years. Ex 6:20 Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years. Ex 7:7 Moses was 80 years old and Aaron 83 when they spoke to Pharaoh. So, lets say that Kohath had just been born when he arrived in Egypt. He lived 133 years and on the last day of his life he fathered Amram. Amram lived 137 years and on the last day of his life he fathered Moses. Moses lead the Israelites out of Egypt when he was 80 years old. 133 years, 137 years, 80 years equals 350 years. |
