1 | Sacking of Jerusalem by Romans in view? | James 5:7 | Huron | 241990
In this text I see James meaning God the Father when he uses "Lord," and the coming of the Lord being the destruction of Jerusalem in the year 70 A.D. as prophesied by Jesus in Matthew chapter 24. Anyone else ever come to this conclusion?
2 | A personal promise in Acts 2:36? | Acts 3:26 | Huron | 238563
What did this verse mean to Peter's audience and by extension, to use today? Peter's point in Acts to his Jewish audience was typically getting them to reverse course and acknowledge Christ as the Messiah. Here in this verse in particular it seems he seems to be taking a different angle indicating that Christ will turn us from our sins. What a great declaration, since we can't overcome sin on our own. Is this an accurate way to view Peter's statement in this verse?

4 | Entering versus inheriting kingdom? | Matt 18:3 | Huron | 214271
Is there a difference between "entering the kingdom of heaven (Mk 10:15," "inheriting the kingdom of God (Jn 3:5)," "seeing the kingdom of God," and "kingdom of God belonging to you (Luke 18:16)?" In other words, do all these terms mean the same thing?

Am I correct in saying that according to this verse, faith is a gift? Thanks! |

6 | Jesus' sake rather than in Jesus' name? | 1 Pet 3:14 | Huron | 193814
In my church the pastor ended the prayer with "for Jesus' sake," rather "in Jesus' name." Should I ask him about this, or am I quibbling over nothing? Thanks! |

7 | Main point of rich man, Lazarus parabe? | Luke 16:19 | Huron | 180359
What is the essential, main point of Jesus' account of the rich man and Lazarus? Is it that riches won't guarantee treasures in the afterlife? Comfort for the poor? Something else? Thanks! Huron |

8 | view of millenium -vs- view of rapture? | Rev 20:4 | Huron | 171991
If you are Amillenial, Premillenial, or Postmillenial, how does that affect your view on the rapture? Would a premillenial believer assume that the rapture would occur before the millenium, and the post millenial believe assume a post millenium rapture? |

13 | Does God guarantee prosperity? | James 5:6 | Huron | 150525
Does God guarantee prosperity to the righteous? Reading from James 5:4-6 it appears that the righteous man was a laborer working in the fields that had his wages witheld by the wealthy landowner. Since he was living hand to mouth, he eventually died. If God did guarantee prosperity to the righteous this could never have occured. Is this a reasonable interpretation to this verse, or am I way off? Thanks! Huron |

15 | Acts commentary recommendation? | Acts | Huron | 147315
What do you consider to be the BEST commentary on Acts? I've read the commentary on James by Douglas Moo, 1 Peter by David's, and am working on the commentary on 1 Corinthians by Gordon Fee. I'm looking for something at about the same level.
16 | Justification in Matt 12:37 by our words | Matt 12:37 | Huron | 145970
In what sense are we justified by our words? Is this the same as the word justification used by the Apostle Paul elsewhere in the NT? How does this mesh with Ephesians 2:8-9, and Titus 3:5, that state that we are saved by grace/faith????
17 | Isaiah 7:14/Matt 1:23 | Matt 1:23 | Huron | 142761
Tim, That certainly answers the question for me, but what would you tell someone who asked the same question BUT only believes the OT. Person in question believes the Messiah hasn't come yet, and that the NT was written by heretics. With that background information, how would you answer the question? |
||||||
18 | How do we know Isaiah 7:14 was prophecy? | Matt 1:23 | Huron | 142664
Tim, Thanks for the succinct answer! While I see that knowing about the Septuagint clears up some issues, I have another question: How do we KNOW that the Isaiah prophecy was about the Messiah? When reading the verse from Isaiah in context, it seems to me that Isaiah is only addressing the king Ahaz and his immediate situation. Obviously, Matthew saw it as a prophecy and he was a Hebrew on the scene, so he has to be correct, but I have to admit that I'm a little puzzled. Regards, Huron |

19 | Septuagint quoted here in Matt 1:23? | Matt 1:23 | Huron | 142599
Is this a quote of the Septuagint? Anyone look into the "virgin" -vs- young lady issue regarding the translation of Isaiah 7:14? Thanks! Huron |
||||||
20 | What language did Jesus use? Read? Quote | John | Huron | 142526
I have a two part question: What language did Jesus use in His daily life? Hebrew? Aramaic? Chaldean? Greek? I've been under the assumption that Jesus quoted the LXX (Septuagint) mostly. Is this true? If so, and assuming that he knew Hebrew, why didn't he use a Hebrew text? Regards! |
