2 | It's up to the believer to be filled, HS | Acts | CDBJ | 236122
The Word of God commands us to be filled with the Spirit, i.e. the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, This command, “be filled with the Spirit” comes to us from the Koine Greek verb (PLEROO). This verb isn’t a suggestion but a command in the “imperative mood”; not doing so would instantly produce a sin. It’s in the “present tense”, which connotes a continuous action or keep on doing this; i.e. being filled with the Spirit and it literally means to fill up a deficiency. Pleroo, or being filled is in the “passive voice”, thus the believer receives the action of the verb of being filled. The word with as in, with the Spirit, it's actually the Greek word EN and means by the Spirit. The word (EN) is a preposition in the “dative case” which signifies advantage or in other words, it’s to the believers advantage to be filled with the Spirit continuously. Every born again believer in Christ has the Spirit the very moment after they believe the Gospel message and totally put their undivided trust in the Person and finished work of God’s Son Jesus Christ. Notice the action and timing of the action in the following verses. Ephesians 1:11-13 (NKJV) Speaking of Jesus: 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, God’s sealing or stamp of approval is non other then God The Holy Spirit Himself sent to dwell within the body or temple of every true believer in Christ to guide and instruct and comfort along with many other functions. God has further promised that this is a permanent situation but without mentioning the quantitative aspect, i.e. the “total” filling is not guaranteed and this is not due to any fault of God, needless to say, but to the individual believer. The indwelling Spirit of God can be grieved and quenched but Scripture commands us not to do this. The BIG QUESTIONS are: How do we grieve and quench the Spirit and since we are commanded to be filled with the Spirit, how is this accomplished. I have found that most believers are very uninformed with regards to this function but please don’t be shy in posting your response! Have a great day, CDBJ |

3 | God can't die or look on sin! | Matt 27:46 | CDBJ | 225394
Jesus Christ in Him hypostatic union is 100 percent God and at the same time 100 percent man. Scripture tells us that there was darkness from the sixth hour to the ninth hour and that Jesus screamed out. Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? It is assumed by most evangelicals, i.e. born again believers, that God the father during that period of time poured out the sins of the world on His Son, Jesus Christ. 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Jesus was made sin at that point in time and God can’t look on sin, 2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. i.e. Thanatos in the Koine Greek or what we call in the English, spiritual death or separation from God. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus is the most important person who has ever lived since he is the savior, God in human flesh. He is not half God and half man. He is fully divine and fully man. In other words, Jesus has two distinct natures: divine and human. Jesus is the Word who was God and was with God and was made flesh, (John 1:1,14). This means that in the single person of Jesus is both a human and divine nature, God and man. The divine nature was not changed when the Word became flesh (John 1:1,14). Instead, the Word was joined with humanity (Col. 2:9). Jesus' divine nature was not altered. Also, Jesus is not merely a man who "had God within Him" nor is he a man who "manifested the God principle." He is God in flesh, second person of the Trinity. "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word," (Heb. 1:3). Jesus' two natures are not "mixed together," (Eutychianism) nor are they combined into a new God-man nature (Monophysitism). They are separate yet act as a unit in the one person of Jesus. This is called the Hypostatic Union. Now here comes the question and the problem, as it were! Since Jesus is 100 percent God as well as man what did the second person of the trinity do at the moment Christ was made sin for us? CDBJ |

4 | When were saints of the OT born again? | Bible general Archive 4 | CDBJ | 219750
After accidentally considering several verses alongside each other I’ve come up with a perplexing question. I will start with the verses that influenced my trend of thought then ask for you input. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (Critical point: unless one is born again) (Further consideration: he cannot enter into the kingdom of God apart from being born again!) John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 1st premise: There is a necessity of the utmost importance that one must be “born again” if they wish to enter heaven. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. 2nd Premise from the following verse: at this particular point in time Jesus was the only begotten Son of God. The way is open for others to become sons or offspring of God is shown in the next verse. John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, The next verse to consider speaks of the first-born, i.e. there “will be more” but Jesus is the first. Hebrews 1:6 And when He again brings the first-born into the world, He says, "AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM." 3rd premise Jesus was the “first of many” to come due to the use of the word “first-born” now instead of only begotten; forethought is the consideration of sons to come. (We are getting closer to the postulate and here is what I like to call the zinger.) When where the believers of the Old Testament actually born again, considering John 3:5 is a must and comparing it to the fact that Jesus was the first born among many brethren. Romans 8:28 I personally think the answer might resides somewhere in the following verse by I would like more input into the matter. 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (Finally the question) Could this be “part of the reason” that the souls of the Old Testament believers were restrained in sheol and not born again until the sacrifice of the lamb of God was resurrected and the Old Testament saints weren’t actually born again until, as 1 peter states in 1:3, “be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”? This verse should likely be included. Ephes. 4:8 Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN." Thanks ahead for your response, CDBJ |

5 | What is the Gift of God in Ephes, 2:8,9 | 1 Cor 12:9 | CDBJ | 219191
Paul in writing Ephes. 2:8,9 uses in the formation of these verses what is called a parataxis. With this in mind what actually is the gift of God “according to Scripture”? Ephes. 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. CDBJ |

6 | Who should baptize? | Acts 2:41 | CDBJ | 218190
Who has the right to baptize someone who has believed in Jesus as their Saviour when they ask to be baptized by the one who has worked toward making them a disciple? Matthew 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." 7 | Most important doctrines? | 2 Tim 3:16 | CDBJ | 215556
What do you consider to be the top three most important doctrines that the Bible teaches and why. I think that most all “true Christians” would agree that number one on the list would be the doctrine of salvation in Christ Jesus; how about number two and three and why? CDBJ |

8 | Age mentioned in the Bible | Luke 2:36 | CDBJ | 199525
A brother asked me a question in church this morning and I only knew half of the answer. The question is; What two woman, given by name in the Bible, have their age mentioned in Scripture? I knew Sarah was one but I can’t find or figure out who the other might be. Does anyone happen to know this little piece of information, I don’t? Thanks ahead of time, CDBJ |

9 | Knowledge of why they are in torment? | Luke | CDBJ | 196492
The Bible tells us that the number entering into destruction is many in comparison to the few that find eternal life in Christ. Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Those that find eternal life know that they have eternal because of God’s grace through the work of God’s Son Jesus Christ and the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit. My question: Does the Bible emphasis when “unbelievers” die physically and they find themselves in constant torment; do they actually know why they are there? The section in Rev. 20:12 is a ways off in future; what do the dead “outside” of Christ know now when they die? CDBJ |

10 | Serious "option" for believers! | Ephesians | CDBJ | 194495
REDEMPTION is a “provision” of God and without it there is no spiritual life. Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 1 Cor. 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: FORGIVNESS on the other hand is an “option” for the believer and without it one can’t progress in his spiritual life. Ephes. 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The question is: What grieves the Holy Spirit even though we, as believers, are sealed by Him? I believe that failure to “understand” and “implement” this critical doctrine is one of the largest factors that causes believers to remain as infants in the Christian way of life! CDBJ |

14 | The fruit and leaves of the tree of life | Gen 2:9 | CDBJ | 184412
Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This is the first mention of the tree of life then it is mentioned and referenced again in the follow verses. Genesis 3:22-24 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Emphasis on the words for ever, which in some translations the word is combined as “forever”. The question is, since in the English we find the word “forever”, which is the Hebrew word “AWLAM”, does it actually mean a continuance from that point on into eternity? All that I have studied would say yes, since man, from that moment on, had an old sin nature and God didn’t want him to continue on in that condition into eternity and apart from God. Carrying that thought, it’s informative to notice that the word “AWLAM” is also used in numerous passages where the assumption of eternity isn’t plausible. Example: Leviticus 25:45-46 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. 46And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour. Here is where I am running into a problem trying to figure this out. During the thousand years of Theocracy there will still be those repopulating the earth that are in their human bodies and procreating and carrying on the seed of Adam, which is still contaminated by the old sin nature, thus there will still be suffering in the world and illness in the world. The tree of life is mentioned again in the book of revelation several times. It “appears to me” that only those in glorified bodies will be allowed to eat the actual “fruit” of the tree of life but the leaves will be used for those that are still in mortal bodies as a way to heal them. Rev. 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Rev. 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Rev. 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Are there any different takes on this? CDBJ |

15 | Maybe some are not really saved? | Acts 16:1 | CDBJ | 173305
I’ve read a lot of statements of people that have done numerous things in their lives that, “biblically speaking”, don’t really make any sense “to me”! Examples; I ask Jesus into my heart. I gave my heart to the Lord. I finally ask Jesus into my life. I now live my life for the Lord. Etc, etc, etc. What has happened to the following? John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Ephes. 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. For “all those that have expressed the things” previous to these verses, for what ever reason, on the authority of God’s Word, what are these actions supposed to accomplish, if anything, as far as salvation goes apart from believing in Jesus, God’s Son the Christ? All of those examples make about as much sense as playing Bible hop scotch and landing on the square marked saved! Just for, “those that proclaim these statements”; what do you think it means to simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life? I’m curious, and if anyone replies I’ll be surprised. CDBJ P.S. 1 Peter 5:5 (B) : for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. |

16 | Forgiven or not Forgiven? | Acts 5:31 | CDBJ | 170303
Just as adding any human activity to faith in Christ for salvation nullifies salvation; why wouldn’t the effect be the same when adding any human activity to the action of Confess in I John 1:9 and thereby nullifying forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God forgives us when we confess our sins only because of what Jesus did on the cross for those sins. I’m not forgiven because of X amount of remorse or sorrow or an overactive guilt complex. When one repents as an “unbeliever” he has a change of mind and then believes in Jesus and receives indwelling. When one repents as a “believer” he has a change of mind and confesses his sins for forgiveness and is restored to fellowship. Are there any opinions on this? CDBJ |

17 | Decisional regeneration? | Acts 2:38 | CDBJ | 169727
Having just attended a memorial service for a Christian that now resides in the presents of the Lord, there was something that caught my attention that I have heard hundreds of times, by about as many pastors, but this time it just seemed to jump out at me. The pastor that held the service presented a very good message on God’s plan for mankind with emphasis on the gospel message. He ended his message by saying: “If anyone wanted to have a relationship with Christ, and be saved, all that they needed to do was to ask Jesus to come into their heart and ask God to forgive them and surrender their life to Christ.” Question: Where in the Bible are these recommendations for “salvation” found? I’m sure I’m not the only one who has heard this! Wouldn’t we be better to stay with what the Scripture actually says? John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: [31] But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. I know that people mean well but that just isn’t the way to be saved. Ephes. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: CDBJ x |

18 | How far have we gone? | 2 Chr 7:14 | CDBJ | 165848
Where does the USA stand today? Psalm 2:1-3 (KJV) Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, [3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. Psalm 2:1-3 (version as seen in the USA) Why do people go on and on trying to remove God from their lives? (2)All of the nations are becoming hostile, and they are forming charters together, to eliminate God from their thinking, and restrict the name of Jesus. (3)Let’s eliminate prayer and the commandments and the Word of God from all municipal places, and let's get God out of our lives so we can all be happy! Look out USA, verses four and five are sure to follow! Psalm 2:4-5 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. [5] Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. HOW do we stop the process? Hosea 6:1 Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 2 Chron. 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 2 Tim. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: No comments necessary, CDBJ |

19 | Assumption or truth? | John 17:3 | CDBJ | 159664
I have heard numerous, “well meaning people”; say that in order to become a born again believer one must invite Jesus into their heart and make Jesus the Lord of their life. Where are the actual verses, which require those functions, found in the Bible? Or are some trying to direct unbelievers into a course action that is not supported by Scripture and thus giving them a false hope? John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: [31] But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
