About how many of God’s people died in the destruction and sacking of Judah and in the siege of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar? Only 10,000 captives were taken, (2Kgs.24.14), and a ‘remnant’ left in the land. During the time of David, there were 470000 fighting men in the tribe of Judah (1Chr.21.5), so I suppose 350 years later, at the time of Nebuchadnezzar, there could be twice that number – maybe a million men? Then multiply that by, say, 5 for women and children and old folks, making that about 5 million people in Judah. Of them, only 10, 000 went into captivity, and a few of the poorest left in the land; say 5000. That leaves quite a few million perished by the sword and by starvation, of God’s own people, to leave the land to lay desolate enjoying her Sabbaths for seventy years, (2Chr.36.21). What do you all think? Judgement begins at the house of God. Let us apply our hearts to wisdom and fear the Lord. God bless, ssbg |
